This place is a disappointment. It’s overpriced and the greens are not very fresh. For a full salad that cost $ 13 I expected more than a cafeteria quality salad. The options for hand crafted salads are limited and topping portions are very small. It gets 3 stars because it’s organic. I don’t think I will eat here again.

My go to spot for fresh take out. Love all the salads. First choice is the Asian chicken salad. I have them add extra chicken. Huge and good.

What can I say? Organic, fresh, with an amazing«choose and build-your-own salad» with the help of an awesome staff. My husband and I came two days in a row for lunch, once we found this place! We also got a full rotisserie chicken«to-go», that was completely out of this world in flavor and completely natural(ORGANICEVERYTHINGHEREPEOPLE!!, no additives, hormone-laced, antibiotic infested(you get my point, I know I know). I also tried one of their fresh«to-go» juices called Energy(beets, carrots, apple, lemon) and it was a wonderful pick me up alternative to a caffeinated beverage. The owner, Jackie was working both times and her customer service was helpful, friendly and informative. She was a wonderful introduction to Greens & Grains! Overall, Greens & Grains is a breath of fresh air in healthy eating! With a menu of nutrient dense, flavorful, organic meals, fresh juices and carry out deli. items Cant wait to come back and explore more from the deli! Let Food Be Thy Medicine!

A solid 5 for serving very healthy, conscientious and tasty food. I couldn’t make a vegetable sandwich as tasty as this place — and I would drive out of my way for just their roasted vegetable pesto and goat cheese sandwich. The Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich(with jalapenos) was pretty satisfying, but their chicken salad sandwich seemed mediocre. I might have sampled most of their prepared salads by now, and while there are many that I would go back to any number of times, the piece de resistance is their red quinoa and kale salad with ginger vinaigrette(deceivingly it never looked as good as it tastes). The wild-rice salad with pecans and cranberries is a close second. The only salad on their menu that I would probably never go back to is their beet salad — sweet dressing on sweet beets, which made it a little cloying. Then the roasted vegetables were just plain roasted with no seasoning(the pricing is way off, as in expensive, for just roasted vegetables, I think). However, their signature salads are a great value. The half sizes are priced at $ 7.95 or so, and the portions are very generous. Also tried a couple of their soups which were rather unique as well. The lentil soup with tamarind was a filling meal by itself. Whoever runs this business is a star! She runs a conscientious business serving quality exemplary food, while providing employment to many. Will continue patronizing this business for as long as I can.

Great freshly made salads and everything! Definitely eat here again. They make great sides to grab and go if you want to add a little something special to your own dinner or you just want to eat what they have for dinner. Either is a great option.

I go here a few times a week for a salad and on occasion, soup(there are usually two choices, one of them always vegan – thank you!). The offerings are fresh and plentiful, with 28(I counted) ingredient options to top either a bed of kale, mixed greens, or romaine lettuce. The service is courteous, even during its busiest time(usually between noon and 1 during the week) and efficient. Jackie, the owner(young and energetic, not elderly and arthritic as another reviewer surmises) is as gracious as she is conscientious about her product. As a result, she has consistently good-tasting(say my colleagues at work who regularly order the prepared salads and the roasted chicken), freshly prepared(say I, who orders a custom salad at least twice a week) food to offer her customers. Alameda is lucky to have her, for a good salad bar is hard to find(anywhere, not just in Alameda).

The Kale Caesar is my favorite salad in the Bay Area. I appreciate that they use dinosaur/lacinato kale and not the curly kale often found in kale salads. It provides a much richer flavor in my opinion. I didn’t even believe I liked anchovies until trying this salad. I love them so much I actually pay for extra every time I go. They use the best quality ingredients and the flavors are perfectly balanced. I find they are generous with the dressing so be sure and communicate with the staff if you prefer a salad that is more lightly dressed. Truly delicious and my favorite meal to have in Alameda.

This place makes the best salads and soups around! Fresh organic ingredients and great customer service. The thai sweet potato and peanut soup is amazing. Their kale is the best tasting I’ve ever had. Highly recommended.

The food is extremely fresh which does balance the price point completely! The service is counter to hand, I had a good experience. For my ½ salad and soup it was $ 14 I thought ok I think it’s a lot for soup salad lunch, but again it was really worth it. I’m going back and try the rotisserie.

Been here a good handful of times and although the salads and chicken salad sandwiches are delicious no complaints on the food. I always feel like the employees treat me differently I notice how the customers before me get greeted with smiles and actually get suggestions on what to get on there orders but once it’s my turn that smile turns into a frown and they don’t even say hi just«what can I get you» almost makes me feel like they are not used to getting a diverse group of customers I don’t want to say they treat me differently because of my race but me and a couple other people I know have also felt the same way.

Their salads are awesome! Lately I’ve been getting the Greek with nuts and chicken. Their soups change several times a week are are also very delicious and fresh. What can I say? I’m a big fan and get food here at least 2 – 3 times during the work week. They do not disappoint!

First off I love the salads here. I get the g&g house with olives and chicken. My only problem is that I get charged a different price for the same salad every time I order ranging from $ 10 to $ 13.50. That being said the salad is almost worth it but at a fluid price it’s a bit frustrating. I’ll be going to trader Joe’s to save myself the confusion and irritation. If you don’t mind the few extra bucks and you don’t pay attn to the price you will like it here but when you eat salad as much as I do it adds up.

I think this place is perfect for the health nut. I love organic, non-gmo oils(rice oil) used in salad dressings, all organic salads, etc. I think most everything is amazing. I have had all their salads, most of their side plates and soups, and sandwich. If you actually want a quality meal for a reasonable price, this is the place. The owner is very open to more ideas as well. It’s a great spot I’ve enjoyed countless times now. Try any of their salads, especially the non-meat ones and your off to a great start to better health for 2015 :).

This is my all-time FAVORITE place to eat in Alameda! Amen for it too because in this day and age of knowing how genetically modified so much of our food is, it’s a RELIEF to know I can stop in some place to grab a quick salad for lunch and know that what I’m eating was grown without chemicals and someplace within California, if not within a few miles away. The TRUE definition of GUILT-FREEEATING. I usually get a half salad and a rotisserie chicken breast on the side.(They get their chicken from«Mary’s Free Range Chicken» — Pitman Family Farms) This is the most perfect combination of food and keeps me full until dinner every time. I am not even lying when I say this chicken is thee BEST chicken I have ever eaten! Do NOT waste your time eating those $ 5 Costco rotisserie chickens full of hormones and pumped up with fluids. It might seem like a good deal but I promise you, once you’ve eaten this chicken you will SO appreciate the difference! The salads are always wonderful. I especially love that they only carry seasonal vegetables. This is so totally key to insuring you are getting something fresh and not trucked in(or FLOWN in) from some other place taking weeks to go from farm to plate. And oh can you TASTE the quality! This is what I love about locally grown produce. The taste of something that fresh is so different from what we are used to getting from our big chain grocery stores. What a refreshing thing to know you can come here and get that quality of flavor every time because it’s all locally grown.(THANKYOU!!) As for the service, I have always been a firm believer that no one owes you any more or less kindness than what you yourself display. I have always been very friendly to those who work so incredibly hard at Greens & Grains and I can assure you, I have never been treated with anything but respect, smiles and wonderful attitudes. These people are BUSY people and they are working their tails off to provide us with the freshest and most awesome food that we can be eating(and all at an affordable price I might add!) so that alone deserves a few stars! But honestly, I have never been disappointed with how anyone here has treated me or anyone near me in line. Kudos to all those hard working friendly staff!(Again, THANKYOU!!)

We stopped in the Alameda Natural Grocery(which is like the Whole Foods of Alameda), and decided to get a salad here at Greens & Grains. You simply pick out your salad leaf: kale, spinach, mixed greens, etc. From there, add a few different types of vegetables, seeds, raisins, cheese, meats– personalize it however you desire! The salad is decently sized, and it was great for the two of us to share. I could definitely have eaten it by myself, though. The salad was about $ 10, so a bit more costly than an average salad. However, all of the ingredients here are USDA Certified Organic, so you feel great about what you’re putting into your body and can really taste the flavors in your food. There are vegetable sandwiches, and other non-vegetarian options for you meat eaters out there. I would absolutely come back here in the future for my lunch break.
