West Side Bakery

Very few places remain with the charm, friendliness and quality of this little gem! I highly recommend.

We ordered our wedding cake here back in 2014 and it was super. We ordered my birthday cake in Dec 2015 and portions of the lower cake were completely dried out. The frosting was delish, so I wrote it off as an exception. I ordered iced cookies for Valentines 2016, I was very disappointed. They gave me a box of oversized hearts in three different shades of pink with things like «Be Mine» and «Hugs.» They were alright, but given that i ordered from a bakery, I expected cute moist cutout cookies like cupid, a rose, hearts etc. with heavy decorative buttercream frosting. The cookies were a hard thin layer of icing and the cookies were crisp. I went to the Giant Eagle bakery and found what I wanted for .76 LESS per cookie.

Before moving to Akron from California, I spotted this bakery and decided to try out their pastries since I love dessert! My favorites were the peanut butter cookies, snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, and the brownie cookies. So the past 5 – 6 times I’ve visited Akron and a day before I leave, I make sure I get my cookie fix at West Side Bakery for the plane ride home. Well 3 years later and here I am living in Akron, it was my daughter’s 2^nd birthday and I ordered a chocolate cake with hazelnut frosting shaped like «Nemo». Well, the cake was superb and devoured! This is my go-​to bakery for all my sweet tooth cravings!

West Side made our wedding cake and it looked amazing! We went the non-​traditional route and selected their pumpkin cake, best decision ever!!! I had multiple compliments and I had to sneak a second piece in by the end of the night.
We tried 12 pieces of cake before selecting West Side. This is hands-​down the best cake anywhere near the city of Akron. I will be a repeat customer (but for much smaller cakes)!

Great selection of beautiful cakes, cookies, breads and breakfast pastries. Cool, unpretentious vibe. We had an excellent chocolate croissant and honest-​to-​goodness fresh squeezed lemonade. My new favorite bakery in Akron.

West Side Bakery made my wedding cake and it and they were WONDERFUL. Service was top notch, and I got many rave reviews on the cake from my guests (I did not manage to grab a slice!)
It was half almond with chocolate ganache and half lemon with berry preserves.

This place is a complete gem in Akron! I custom ordered a cake and cookies for my law school graduation from this bakery. They did a MAGNIFICENT job! The cake was in the shape of a law school book, with a fondant gavel on top. Beautiful. It easily beat the Pinterest inspiration picture I provided them. More importantly, it was delicious. My guests loved it.
I’ve been back to this bakery for cupcakes, more cookies, and most recently, a birthday cake. They never disappoint. Excellent service too. I highly recommend them.

Great looking breads, awesome pecan sticky buns, and forge friendly and knowledgable staff makes this place a must for a sweets or bread lover.

All through middle school, my carpool driver would bring cookies when she picked us up. They are sweet, moist and adorable! I’ve had many instances of eating the beautiful cakes here and they always out perform any cakes I’ve had elsewhere (and mind you, I’m a mid-​twenties Mormon living in Utah, I go to about 20 weddings a year). The eclairs are great as well. The atmosphere is perfect and it makes you feel like you are in a cute Southern bakery, not in West Akron.

SO DELICIOUS. Because I wanted to anger all my wedding guests, I ordered a plain two-​layer German-​style nut torte as our wedding cake. Ha! I couldn’t have been happier. Delicious, buttery, not too sweet at ALL – just perfect.
My mom handled most of the details (thank God, or I would have lost my mind, being abroad), so I can’t speak to their customer service. But we were on a relatively short timeline – I think it was 3 months before the wedding that we ordered the cake? It wasn’t cheap, but it wasn’t by any means extravagant, especially for the quality. I’d rather pay more for West Side Bakery than for something that tastes like it came from Giant Eagle. You may as well get it from GE in that case.
Also, we had a platter of their cookies at the wedding, which were to die for. The Linzer cookies are insanely good. So fantastic.

A great little bakery in West Akron! My girl put in a special order of baklava (my favorite) and some sugar cookies and everything tasted wonderfully. They seem to have a solid selection of seasonal and ethnic baked goods as well.

I called this place up Thursday to place an order for a birthday cake for Saturday. I thought it would be too last minute but she quickly came up with some ideas and before I knew it I was picking the cake up Saturday afternoon. DELICIOUS!!! The design looked better than I expected. I also grabbed a crème brulee for my husband as a treat and a pretzel and chocolate ganache cupcake for myself. I loved the salty and sweet combination. The bakery was super busy when I arrived but the customer service was still great. It seems like a very popular place in a cute little shopping center. I’ll certainly be back!

This is a review on their customer service skills more than anything else, and it was a very disappointing experience.
I had heard from people I know that they enjoy their cakes. I needed to line up a wedding cake for next summer so I thought I’d give them a chance. We had a 4pm appointment but we ended up being 10 minutes late on the nose. After apologizing to the attendant behind their counter I was given a tray of 4 different cake slices to try while my party waited for the manager to come out and talk to us.
The cake was pretty good, and we soon finished it while we waited for the manger. And waited, and waited. I was really confused what was taking her so long because there was no when else in the bakery waiting for anything, just one or two customers that came in, bought something and left that were helped by the two other people working.
After about 30min I put the empty cake tray on the counter to let them know we had finished tasting. The tray was promptly cleaned up but still no manager. So after 40min of waiting and being ignored we got up and left.
About 10min after we left the manager called and asked us why we left. After explaining how we had been ignored for 40 min the manager tried to make me believe it was my fault because we had been late to our appointment and I had not properly gotten her attention.
Sorry I will be taking my business elsewhere, to some one who won’t waste my time and blame the customer for their short comings. I would not trust them with a wedding cake or anything else important if they can’t be bothered by you while you are sitting in their store.

Located in a charming little area. I drove into the parking lot around 3 pm and for a brief moment, I forgot I was in Akron!
The cakes are probably the best in the city. I walked in and the ladies at the counter immediately greeted me and offered help. After glancing at what was available, I ordered a small vegan cinnamon spice cake (?) and some cookies.
The cookies were delicious, although they might be softer and tastier if I had visited in the morning and the cookies were fresh out of the oven.
The cake was absolutely delightful, a pleasant surprise! I did not think a vegan cake could be so delicious! The cream was heavy, which is to be expected. The texture of the cake was soft, and yet I could taste the cinnamon flavor. It was like heaven! The prices are not unreasonable either.
As a side note, they do not normally carry their full selection of vegan desserts (which you can find on their website). This is understandable since veganism is not as prevalent in Ohio. If desiring a particular item, it may be necessary to call ahead of time to order.
Ultimately, it’s nice to find a bakery of this caliber here in Akron!

Friendly and helpful service with DELICIOUS cakes and cupcakes (I haven’t tried anything else –yet).

We stopped in for breakfast pastries and lattes on one of our first mornings as residents of Akron. The pastries were fresh and delicious. The coffee was also great. I look forward to coming here again to order a birthday cake for the next celebration we have in our family.

I always come here for birthday cakes, but I just have to announce this: I loathe the cream cheese frosting that comes on 99% of Red Velvet cakes. They have Red Velvet cake with CHOCOLATE GANACHE!!!
I seriously almost kissed the fellow who was helping me.
