Holy hell, this place has everything a person would need. Ever. As a former student of the University of Akron, this is probably the one thing I miss the most about the college experience — not the parties or the late-night cramming sessions or the 2011NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. I actually highly regret not working out here that often until my final semester. They have everything here. Are you wanting to take a Zumba class or a class focusing on your abs? They have that. Do you want to sit on your ass and play the Wii? They also have that. They also have a plethora of weight machines, cardio workouts, a pool, courts, one of the largest climbing walls in the country, and even trainers here to assist you in your quest to lose the weight you’re probably going to add back on by drinking and eating. The staff here is friendly and interested in their jobs. Yes, I realize that almost all of them are students here; however, they are more knowledgeable than the«trainers» at any other gym I’ve been to. They even know me by name here — whether that’s good or bad remains to be seen. If you are a student, this is heaven. Did I mention that it’s FREE to all UA students? If you are an alum(na) or a community member, you’re obviously going to pay for a gym membership. I think for me, since I graduated in December 2010, it’s $ 190 for a 6-month membership(roughly $ 32/month, which is about average). I haven’t decided if I’m going to go for an alumni pass, but if you are interested in staying around Akron for longer than you have to, I suppose it’s worth it. My only complaint is that it’s fairly pricey for community members. After all, we have to pay for Rob Ianello’s $ 375,000/year football coaching contract somehow. Looking forward to another 1 – 11 season, coach.
