Cross-country drive. Spent about $ 50 to have something different in the middle of… well…the country, to say the least. Pickled veggies, sub-par rice and fish. MAYBE it’s okay for Ohio sushi? Drove by healthy-type market 10 minutes later and was mad I wasted money on Sushi Katzu.

One of our favorite places. Hidden away. Well worth finding if you enjoy authentic sushi. It’s under new ownership who have kept Tony’s menu and are adding to it. They’ve remodeled and do have outdoor seating. Two sushi chefs now instead of one. The Tommago & tofu appetizer are exceptional.

Best sushi in Akron! Delicious and unique, with some of the freshest fish I’ve ever had. Tony is very warm and the restaurant itself is very cozy.

If you are the kind of person that goes to eat for the whole experience(environment, food quality, wait staff… etc) this is NOT the place for you. It is located in a tiny, rundown, diner-type of place… But the food is AMAZING. I got the yellow fin tuna and was probably one of the best pieces of fish I have eaten. Not overly expensive for sushi either. I am picky about sushi, and usually like a «classier» place to eat, but I overlook that element just to get the great food. Give it a shot… if you can find it… not the easiest thing to do!

A hole in the wall place located behind a strip mall. We had the pleasure of dinning at the sushi bar. The sushi rolls that we got were all very tasty and indulgent. My favorite was the black diamond. The monster roll we got was good but I could have done without the cream cheese. Next time we come I would like to try some of the more traditional offerings like the sushi combos. The service is on the slower side but this is understandable because it is a one man operation in the kitchen. Tony the chef is very detail oriented and takes his time to make every order. Price wise things were very reasonable with specialty roles coming in at around 10 dollars each. If you are going to tip the sushi chef remember to have a little extra cash as the tips on the card go to the severs. Overall this was an excellent sushi experience and on the short list for my favorite sushi places in Ohio. 4.5÷5

What I liked about this restaurant is how nice Chef Tony is. He really offers a welcoming environment to the restaurant. You can tell that many of his customers he knows personally. You can also tell that he uses very fresh fish. What I find as a downside is that the rolls are pretty unremarkable. I really admire creativity when it comes to sushi and the sushi at Sushi Katsu was lacking. The portions are also barely satisfying. I’d suggest coming here for a light snack rather than an entire meal.

Most authentic sushi in this area. Prepared by a real sushi master. This is the go to place of Japanese executives on business trips to Akron. Highly recommended.

We have been to sushi katsu two times and both times it has continued to become our favorite sushi restaurant. Staff is friendly, the restaurant is very quaint, but not stuffy, and the food oh my gosh… The food is amazing. I would strongly suggest the sashimi special, or the smoked salmon sashimi. Miso soup is some of the best I’ve ever had. In my opinion, hands down one of the best restaurants in the Akron area.

We love this hole in the wall. Tony is great, always personal and remembers you even after a year of not coming in. The server(s) aren’t the bestest ever but just sit at the bar and let tony take care of you. Fresh and delicious sushi. Probably Akron’s best.

This is hands down the best sushi in Akron, Ohio. My wife and I have been going here for five years and we have never once had a bad meal here. Typically after eating sushi I’m either hungry or broke. Not here. Portions are great and I’m always leaving satisfied!

Awesome and it has the best sushi. The service is not that good because there is only one person who serve. So, you need to come early to take your bar or middle of the week.

I will probably get torched for my views but it must be said. First and foremost, rolls are NOT the true art form of sushi. It’s just Americans have made it that way. Everyone has NetFlix, go watch Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Rolls are a slap in a master sushi chefs face. Adding cream cheese to EVERY roll is humiliating. I’ve been to Sushi Katsu numerous times and have always been satisfied. I don’t do rolls as its the biggest waste of money, anywhere. I’ve been in the sushi mix around here and I have taken notice how he chooses his cuts of fish if at all possible. I bet no one recalls the days when fish was shipped here and had to be picked up at the airport that day. I will admit that the wait is long but it is a one man show. This isn’t fast food people. When is hand made stuff ever been cheap and fast? The Akron area will never have a authentic sushi spot because of its customer base. This is probably as close as we will get to one around here. Of course, this is just my opinion. Appreciate the fish, not the sauce, cream cheese, crunchies, or whatever you like in your roll.

I am so glad I tried Sushi Katsu! Being originally from the east coast, I have been somewhat disappointed with the sushi offerings in northeast Ohio. However, I think I found the jackpot with Sushi Katsu: Fresh fish, affordable food, and friendly service! We went on a Saturday night to get their sashimi special, which is approximately half off. Chef Tony has a LOT of experience making sushi, and it is quite apparent. The restaurant is small, and has a kind, familial atmosphere. Their nightly specials are all really great deals. I’ll be back on Mondays for $ 3.50 hand rolls night! I highly suggest the spicy scallop hand roll. As for the wait that some people mention, we were lucky enough to go on a Saturday night in which both Akron and Kent had football games, so there was no wait at all for us! If you’re looking for a swanky-looking, all-frills dining atmosphere and experience, this probably isn’t the restaurant for you. However, if you’re looking for high quality, FRESH sushi, prepared and served by very knowledgeable and very kind people in the Akron area, absolutely give Sushi Katsu a try!

Sorry but this place has declined. I will not be returning. We went here last night, having not been here since 2011. We did try twice in between but found it closed for the season once and closed for the day another. We could have skipped it last night too. There were two or three tables occupied when we arrived. No one came in after us. We ordered sushi. I ordered miso soup also. The server suggested the special muscle appetizer that my wife then ordered. The soup came right away and was quite good. Then, we waited about an hour! No muscles. The server came over to explain the delay a couple of times but no muscles! Then, finally we got the sushi. No muscles. We had literally just had the last bite of the sushi when she came over to say the chef had just started the muscles! We refused and she suggested we take them to go. We didn’t. That could have been excused had the place been packed or others had arrived after us. That was not the case. In addition, the sushi was not like I remember. It was just okay. The construction was also lacking. Nearly all of the pieces fell apart when picking them up with chopsticks. I’m not the best with chopsticks, but this was not my technique. There are better sushi places in this area.

Sushi Katsu is a small sushi bar that is generally pretty good or slightly better than average. It’s almost never very good or very bad. Prices are average for the area. Service can be a problem, the sushi chef is very good but the servers seem to strongly favor regulars at the expense of less frequent customers. AVOID the all-you-can-eat sushi special, because the all-you –can-eat rolls are prepared differently, with a great deal of extra rice, the special turns out to be all-you-can-eat rice wads…

I have had many good experiences at Sushi Katsu, mostly because I expect to pay a lot for an authentic experience. I recommend any of the hand rolls, as well as the baked scallop. For a more mainstream or polished restaurant try Kasai in Wadsworth.

Very cozy place with friendly staff and Tony was talkative and prompt with service. Sushi on par with big chains like sushi rock and wasabi for slightly less cost. Definitely recommend trying it out!

I had heard a friend rave about this place so I was very excited to try it. I got the Schwartzenegger roll which was fantastic, but it was so big I had to eat it in pieces. The freshness of the fish was the absolute best thing here. Probably the highest quality I have ever had. I would go there again to only get Nigiri, but I don’t think I’ll be getting the rolls again. They were very loosely rolled so they came apart very easily. Also, the sauce used on some was just too salty. I was glad that my friend had told me that it was behind other shops because otherwise I would not have been able to find it. They had 2TV’s on which made the simple atmosphere seem cheap rather than sparse. Overall, Sakura is still my favorite for regular and specialty rolls, but the quality of the fish here was amazing. The owner seemed very nice.
