The fact that their idea of chow mein is all bean sprouts should tell you something about this restaurant

Wow! The quality of food here must vacillate like crazy! Made the mistake of stopping without Unilocaling first. I now note that some folks feel as though this place is a reincarnation of The Maisonette in Chinese clothes and others would not revisit if the food were free! Stopped on a weekday and made the mistake of getting the buffet. Bill must buy pre-breaded chicken scraps by the 55 gallon drum, as almost every entrée was made with these deep-fried little cardiologist’s dreams. They were presented with a wide variety of sauces which to the confused diner all tasted the same. Mayhap another 55 gallon drum! They did use food coloring to make them look different however. ” All were equally cold which added immensely to their appeal.” he said, sarcasm dripping from his lips. One of these dishes which purportedly featured broccoli as a component had one lonely piece of broccoli which had been cooked for hours to remove any color, flavor, or nutritional value and had swum to the shore of the buffet vessel in search of salvation. Had it been a family pet it most certainly would have been time to put it to sleep, but no similar remedy came to mind for this poor veggie, so I just turned and walked away, depressed and forlorn. There were three entrees which were not of the fried chicken variety; one of which was the fried fishcake. This was the oddest item I’ve ever seen at a restaurant. It was roughly the size and shape of an ice cube. and made from the stuff that fell through all the grading sifters on the mechanical separator and collected on the bottom of the machine, retrieved and all mashed together to form a cube. The consistency was more like a baby food version of fish than actual fish. Yecch! Another was a beef pepper steak entrée which was actually palatable, albeit overcooked, and a curried chicken dish which, when some was actually left in the serving container might have been palatable as well. In an effort to keep prices low, however, no coconut milk was sacrificed in the making of the curry. Even the chili oil lacked sufficient chilies to flavor the oil adequately, so there was no masking the taste of this stuff. The egg rolls were 100% cabbage filled, lovingly made in a factory somewhere in Boise.

I’ve been to Bill Hwang’s so many times since I was little. I moved back up to Akron after living in different states for the past four and a half years, and when my boyfriend’s family mentioned getting Bill’s for dinner that night, I was taken back to my childhood of coming here. Always had good food. Either they completely redid their food or they’re slacking or I just haven’t had it in awhile. but it was pretty gross. I got my usual Roast Pork Lo Mein. It was greasy. some of the noodles were extremely overcooked and there was no sight of any vegetables. Maybe I’m spoiled but usually lo mein comes with veggies? Whatever happened to the Bill’s I remember? Probably not getting them again unless we’re desparate for Chinese.

Place was terrible! The buffets of food were slim pickens, either it was almost gone or empty. You could hardly tell what the food was if it was there. There was not much to pick from. The food did not look good, my husband refused to eat there food. Probably never stopping there again!

Bill Hwang’s is absolutely my favorite Chinese restaurant. I have ordered many different items from the menu, and I have never been disappointed. The food is delicious! The buffet is a great way to experience many of the different options before deciding on a favorite. The restaurant is clean and casual, and the staff is friendly. Food can also be ordered to go. Bill Hwang’s recently started accepting credit cards… it used to be cash or check only.

Bill Hwang’s is a casual, inexpensive, sit down Chinese restaurant on busy Canton. Rd in Akron. The place was clean, and decently decorated. They have several buffet stations which is filled for both lunch($ 5.98) and dinner($ 7.98). Their buffet selection is plentiful and their food was tasty. They had a relatively good salad bar, at least 15 types of entrees, four types of soups, and 8 types of desserts(with fresh Watermelon and other fruit). In addition to their buffet, they also have a full menu with a full page of lunch specials, and daily specials($ 4.95). The next time I visit Bill Hwang’s, I am going to order off the menu because while the food on the buffet was tasty, a few of them looked dry sitting on the warming table. Our server was friendly and efficient. She cleared our plates regularly and kept our glasses filled. I believe Bill’s to be a decent and inexpensive place to go if you want some sit-down, served cheap eats. PS: They do not take credit cards, only cash.
