I came here out of curiosity after seeing a cool tshirt on a guy that said«Hanapa’a Fishing» on the airplane. LOCATION: Pearlridge ground floor by Longs at the bottom of the escalators. SERVICE: I had great customer service. The guy helped me with the shirts and then left me alone when I wanted to browse. FISHINGSUPPLY: this store doesn’t carry a large selection, and their prices are more expensive than I’ve seen at other places, but they have really cool FISH tshirts and hats and a few specialty items. I really wanted to buy the huge ulua hanging from the ceiling but they wouldn’t sell it to me this time. I will try again next time. Instead I bought a wide brim woven fisherman hat, a pair of slippers with a metal screen in the sole(so you don’t get poked by stepping on thorns or hooks or shark teeth) and a Naoki Gyotaku tshirt with a big mahimahi chasing a school of opelu. If you need to buy a gift for the fisherman in your life, check out the Gyotaku shirts!

I came here to buy a speargun just to try it out — my friends and family all go so I wanna try too right? Well the guy there was asking me questions &I was telling him I didn’t really know that much about diving & I didn’t know what to buy so he stops and goes«wait, who is this for?» so I tell him it’s for me and he just stops and looks at me like I’m a fckn idiot. I stood there for like a full minute waiting for him to say something but nothing — super fckn awkward. So I just said«nevermind» and walked out. I guess females shouldn’t be diving right? Dick.

Hanapa’a in Pearlridge has been on the scene for a while now. i’ve checked them out a few times looking for various fishing supplies(mostly just checking out selection and prices). I will say, as a locally owned store, it is hard to compete with larger stores(Wal-Mart, Sears, Sports Authority) when it comes to pricing and selection. yes, the selection here is small. i remember when i first visited this store, shortly after it opened, there were tons of stock. when i went in recently however, it seemed kind of lacking. i’m not sure if i went in during a time when they were in-between shipments? for example — i went in looking for a new fishing pole(for whipping, so the smaller pole) and they only had 3 in stock… 2 of which had kitchy light up reels… not what i was looking for at all. they do have a decent snorkeling supplies section with quality masks and snorkels, so i would possibly go back for this when my current equipment wears out. they also have a selection of t-shirts and other apparel, tackle, knives, magazines, and such. i’ll be honest, you’ll probably find your fishing tackle cheaper at Sears or Wal-Mart, and Sports Authority does have a much larger selection of poles to choose from… but supporting Hanapa’a supports local, AND they have good snorkel gear if you’re looking for that… also also — the staff are friendly, and not pushy(which i like!). check them out next time you’re looking for fishing or snorkel gear.
