I requested a quote and Jay and Mario came out to my place. I received the quote two days later. It was almost three times as much as any of the other three quotes I had received. I sent an email back stating I appreciated his time but he was in fact three times higher than any other quote and we could not do business. I get a call a few hours later. He said he was just always curious to know what his competitors had bid – so I told him $ 1500, $ 2000, & $ 2200 compared to his $ 5600. He told me that they must not be doing it to code, must be using cheap materials, and a handful of other jabs. — but it that’s the wall I wanted built. I told him I would be more than happy to review another quote from him if he wanted to build to minimum city requirements. At which he replied he had not even checked city requirements. I responded that I am only speaking with and hiring licensed and bonded contractors and therefore they should know the requirements before submitting bids and be prepared to back up their work. At which point he said I was on speaker phone and the office manager was there shaking their head no because contractors often bolt after being paid. SO I again stated thank you for your time and consideration bur this is not going to work out. To which he responded he just did not understand why people choose to do cheap work. I responded that is the exact nature of the condescending attitude I was referring. I said good by and hung up… If high pressure sales do not work does telling your potential customer they are stupid and cheap really work?

We are heading toward the finish line of our second wave of projects with Shafran. There are so many things we can say about Jordan and his father and the way they run their business. But the three things that come to mind the most are trust, work ethic and quality workmanship. When Shafran Construction works with you, their first priority is to bring you into their family. From the start, the trust of any healthy relationship is built almost immediately. If I were a millionaire, I would hire Shafran to work on my house every day, for the rest of time! They are quite simply the best. And this is coming from my wife and me who have owned eight houses. We have worked with many contractors before, but Shafran will be the last!

really bad … They did the driveway for us… really bad ! The driveway started the first crack line after 2 months, I called Jay and he told me that they are not taking the responsibility for the concrete job, and said the earth is moving … what the hell ! The color is not even and … just too bad ! and the charge is very much, what we are paying is not cheap ! DONOT go to them with their sweet words, they know how to talk and trying to push the customer to make the decision right away, sign the contract and pay the 10% deposit.

Man, where do I start. My grandmother has lived in Woodland Hills ever since moving out there from Brooklyn to be with her daughters(my aunts). When her mobility decreased, we all decided to have a ramp installed off the driveway going up the deck, so that she could get in to the house with more ease. These guys came in on time, within our budget, and did a great job. Mike, the estimator showed up when he said he would, and brought our attention to a possible termite concern(that turned out not to be a big deal), and within three weeks of our signing the contract, the project was done. They laid new pavers beneath the ramp at the end of the driveway, which look marvelous, and the ramp itself is all pressure-treated wood snaking up to the sliding door. I’ve worked with contractors before, and for the most part my feeling has been«meh» to outright irritated. These guys didn’t smoke on my property, they were always polite to my family, and acted like complete professionals all the time. I’d definitely hire them again if we needed to.

Shafran Construction Company did the worst possible job I’ve ever seen. They had to redo the concrete steps to the front entrance of the building because their first attempt was so horribly bad; the steps looked like floppy pancakes. I ended up having to beg Shafran to do the job over. It took several months before they finally agreed to come out and redo it. The redo was almost as bad as the first. They still look just awful — «unprofessional, unskilled and sloppy» is the word I should use to describe their work. They did not clean up afterwards and left the place looking like hell. I would NEVER recommend this construction company to anyone for any reason. John
