I usually like Jaxx. Good food. Easy to get a table on a Friday/Saturday night without a reservation. Small. Not at all loud. You can actually have a real conversation at dinner. So, I thought a last minute new year’s eve reservation would work quite well. Avoiding the more popular spots like Del Frisco’s which can be a nightmare on NYE. I could not have been more wrong. We wasted nearly an hour past our reservation time to be seated. We then learned that they had only booked 4 waiters that night and had quite a few open tables so that’s what caused the delay in seating. Seriously? It’s NYE and you have been in the business for several decades and you don’t know that you need more wait staff on NYE? Then they ran out of one of the four entrée choices. I could go on but suffice it to say it was a horrible experience. We were there three hours and barely ate.

I went to Jaxx a few weeks ago but wanted to be sure to review the restaurant because it is a hidden gem. It is not the young hip trendy night spot. It is an old fashioned steakhouse/chop house. It looks very funky and dated from the outside. It actually reminded me of on of the joints shown in the movie Goodfellas. However, the inside is nice spacious and clean. The waitstaff was great the host/head waiter was very formal and high end. Our waiter was a lot more casual and fun but still professional and appropriate. The meal was great. I ordered a steak and shrimp combo. When i received plate i was put off because my steak was covered with a sauce or glaze as they call it. On a good quality steak covering it in sauce is a no no. I assumed they were trying to cover up a dry chewy steak, but i was wrong The steak was perfection. It was juicy tender and cooked to the precise temperature that i requested. The glaze was a nice addition. The shrimp was delicious as well. The others i was dining with had a fish dish(I forgot what it was but she said it was good). I did not get dessert but watched my companions snarf down a bread pudding that was well presented and smelled heavenly. I have no complaints. The price point is high but on par with other steakhouses of the same quality.

Nice setting. Nice happy hour. So hard to believe this has been here since the 90s. Not so loud you could not have a nice conversation with your friends. Our server was very willing to help with any questions. I had the fried shrimp and was not disappointed. They are JUMBO! The tartar sauce was great. I should have tossed some of that on the cole slaw, since I like a creamy slaw. The peppercorn steak was said to be good as well, and so were the blackened shrimp. The 4th meal was a soup and salad. Greek salad and clam chowder. My Crown and ginger was about $ 5 at happy hour.

Ordered Rack of Lamb. Lamb had slight unfresh odor to it, but I still ate it since I didn’t want it to be thrown away. Informed server at end of meal, but he seemed to brush it off as gaminess of lamb(not the case as I’ve eaten lamb numerous times without this smell). Rice pilaf was overly moist and veggies were good, not great. Prices are high and great quality is expected, but it was only decent. On positive side, service was quick and attentive. 3⁄5.

Jaxx has been our«go-to» place for a couple years now for special dinners. Last night we celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary there and I was very disappointed. I always order the Jaxx Pepper Steak and this time I don’t think it was even a steak. The texture was more like a roast. It was well-done when I had ordered medium. Quite a disappointment for a $ 36.00 steak. We ordered a $ 45.00 bottle of Rhiannon wine and when the sommelier came to open it, he broke the top of the cork off and swiftly put it in his pocket like we didn’t see that happen. He continued to open it without presenting the cork to us and left. After all the dishes had been removed and the 2 wine glasses were emptied we sat and sat waiting for the check. I finally flagged down the hostess and it still took awhile to get our waitress back to our table. Our«go-to» is gone at Jaxx.

I have been to this restaurant several times and my experiences have been awesome! But today was the worst experience ever for a white table restaurant. First issue was we waited over 10 minutes to be sorted. After another 10 minutes I was annoyed because no one had been by our table. I asked the hostess to get us water. And she did bring us 1⁄3 cups of water with a side note of I normally don’t do this! Really, rude and unnecessary!!! We finally get a waitress to the table that never apologized for the wait. Then we place our order and the food arrives 35 minutes later. And it was WRONG… not the way I ordered it, ugh! We suck it up and just eat it. She brings the bill and of course it’s wrong too! We are charged $ 2 extra for extra chives, the ones that I never received in the first place. And and extra $ 3 for a flat soda that I sent back. I was very disappointed in the service and food tonight. If this continues I’m not sure they will be around to provide this horrible service!

The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. For appetizers we had the bruchetta, which was good – not great. I had the rack of lamb for entrée. While tender and cooked perfectly, it lacked flavor. The sides were delicous. Chocolate cake for dessert. Again, good, but not great. My wife had the Ceasar salad which had a fishy aftertaste. Steak was good. Cooked perfectly, and well seasoned. All in all, Jaxx was good, but not great. For the price, I expect great. The service was excellent. I don’t plan to go back, but I might for a business lunch – the atmosphere was great for that.

Outdated!!! Not for younger crowed looks like older crowed. The food was average but pricy and smoking in the bar was what I liked. Service was average not worth it if you want amazing steak dinner experience.

I am sorry … but … Jaxx Steakhouse left little if any to be desired to say it is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. I searched it out as a steakhouse that I had not been(we have been to many) for our 43rd wedding anniversary. It was a Monday night and friends went with us. We made reservations but were not noticed upon approaching the reception station … for quite some time. Once seated, the waiter and maitre’d were very attentive. The food and presentation however did not meet up to the standards of an upscale steakhouse restaurant. I ordered the Wilted Spinach and in an attempt to be adventurous … a cup of Quail Soup(Soup Dujour). The Spinach was tasty but the soup was terrible. Not even the low lights could hide the distracted presentation. They removed it without question. I then ordered the Steak and Crabmeat Stuffed Shrimp. My wife ordered the Lemon Pepper Tilapia. This is not a seafood restaurant … so do not order seafood. The two small shrimp filled with stuffing turned my mouth inside out. I should have stopped upon noticing the fishy smell. They tasted like they had been around for quite some time … old and fishy … nauseating. My wife asked me to taste the Tilapia … nauseating. The waiter/maitre’d were quick to take these items and offer alternatives. I chose a dish of baked shrimp and she got the Pork Chop. The shrimp once again tasted old and fishy but the Filet Mignon and Pork Chop were tender, juicy and quite tasty. The Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Chef’s Vegetables rounded out a pleasant meal in the end. I got the impression that Jaxx has had its share of good old days. The waiter/maitre’d made the experience pleasant while the kitchen could upgrade its food quality and presentation. Make a host/hostess available to meet/greet. The owner might want to bring in the guy that saves restaurants from closing before its too late. There is still a mature audience that patronizes the establishment but I suspect they may want to make an appeal to a younger professional audience also. Overall, I would give the establishment a C and would not probably recommend to my friends.

Omg! You can’t tell from the outside but you are in for a treat. We had the rib eye and it was cooked perfect. The wait staff were attentive and courteous.

GREAT and BAD I will keep this brief. I frequent restaurants often and have worked in the industry. I know what is excusable(busy, short staffed, etc) and what is not. I gave 2 stars because of the service. It was horrible. I cannot say all the staff is bad, but we attended because of the recommendations of the business. The food was AMAZING. Portions could be a little better, but the taste, how it was prepared, and balance was AWESOME. Our server was not at all what I’d expect at a place that is trying to be a fine dining establishment. I’d expect his level of service at an Applebee’s. It seemed apparent he judged us from the moment we entered. While we are not young, we still look younger than our age. Our server(male, and I wish I could recall his name) was inattentive and appeared he could care less we were there. He was at the table one time after the food came by, and we had to flag him down to get the bill. I won’t go into the detail, but what he wrote on our check was also RUDE. The only other issue was the drinks from the bar. FAR too strong. We ordered drinks that should be balanced well. Might as well had been drinking a shot. :( I want to go back because of the food, but hope the facility addresses some of their staff who need some training.

We attempted to go to 2 other steak places but there was either a 45 minute wait(on a Tuesday! These people are much fancier than us, it’s a big deal for us to eat steak on a Tuesday!) or only had valet(everything is in a strip mall with ample parking, I’m NOT paying for valet in Addison!) but then I remembered there was a steakhouse a little off the main Beltline drag. Now, is the blue and green tiled exterior and elaborate neon signage a turn off or a plus? I though it was cool but probably not what you would picture as an upscale steakhouse. But when you’re inside, it’s surprisingly swank, and guess what? No wait! Our waiter had very little else going on so we got excellent service! It is a very straight forward, old school steakhouse which I kind of loved. I had the lemon drop martini which was sweet, tart, and tasty(and strong!) We actually got the frites for an appetizer and they were great! What’s better than some fresh crispy fries with some aioli? Not much, if you ask me. Well, a giant juicy ribeye is also pretty great, and also what I happened to have for dinner. It was just a hunk of savory meat, with the some tasty mashed potatoes, and some nice mixed veggies(I am picky about mixed veggies, they can just be nasty and flavorless so often but these had been grilled a little and were great! The broccoli took on too much red pepper flavor but I’m just not crazy about red peppers, not their fault.) My husband had the special which was medallions of meat with a blue cheese sauce, it looked lovely and he got 2 meals out of it(I embarrassingly ate my whole steak in one sitting!) Both steaks were cooked perfectly. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the crème brûlée, the texture was a little weird, but all in all it was a great meal and I’m so happy we ended up here instead of waiting a long time and probably getting rushed service.

My wife and I had a fairly lackluster experience. It was our first time at this restaurant. It is supposed to be an upscale restaurant, but the service did not reflect that. We stood at the maitre d’ stand for several minutes waiting to be seated and nobody noticed us, even though we made reservations for what turned out to be a fairly empty restaurant. I drank water with my meal because my waiter never took a drink order. My wife had to proactively ask for her cola, and that didn’t flag his brain to ask me. He was pleasant and talkative, but seemed to be new or inexperienced. In most upscale restaurants, you get multiple people checking on you, but I never saw a manager or any other team member this night, save for the food delivery. The food was good, but no better than any other nice, middle class restaurant(Think Red Lobster/Olive Garden/etc.). I had a Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo entrée w/no sides($ 23.95) and a Caesar Salad($ 6.95). My wife had a Petite 6oz. Steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables($ 31.95) and a cola($ 2.95). Without a drink for me, nor any appetizers or desserts, we walked out with a tab of $ 65.80 + tax & tip. No, not the highest bill I have ever seen, but definitely above your average restaurant for what we got. I might be somewhat forgiving of a more economical restaurant. However, if you are attempting to play with the big boys, you have to suit up and play your A-game. It did not happen here. I would really give it about a 2.5 stars. It is the type of restaurant, should a friend want to go, I would not refuse to attend. However, I probably would not select it for myself again.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Jaxx, but I was pleasantly surprised! We had a great meal, great service and the restaurant has a really good feel to it. Wednesday night is half price glasses of wine… bonus, so I enjoyed a nice glass or two of bubbly. We shared the shrimp cocktail and crabcakes and both were delicious. I enjoyed the salmon for my entrée and we split a white chocolate bread pudding for dessert. That dessert was absolutely amazing… it is a must have! Thank you to our server for giving us such great recommendations!

I’m surprised at how low Unilocalers are rating this place. Everything we had was really spot on! Pomme Frites– Fancy french fries served with truffle oil and garlic lemon aioli. The dipping sauce was thick and creamy. Filet Mignon with the Jaxx potatoes was cooked perfectly. The meat was incredibly tender. Crab crusted orange roughy was my favorite! This was my first time having orange roughy and I am definitely a fan! Bread pudding was delish as well and not to mention my Texas Manhattan was incredibly strong. They apparently make their drinks into doubles so you’ll get your money’s worth. Although the food was great the way the place is painted and decorated gives off an eerie and old restaurant feel to it. I think they should modernize it bit to bring in a younger crowd. I wish Gordon Ramsey can come to this place and spruce it up with his badass self. Great food, incredible service(Thanks Jared!) and strong drinks.

Eaten there twice now. Presentation both times for entrees has been phenomenal. They obviously put some care into the presentation and taste of their food. I need to actually try a steak there, I suppose… Had blackened chicken and blackened trout. I’ve never seen it full at lunch time, but I’m sure with food this good they do amazing business at dinner time. The décor feels pretty dated(think dark wood paneling, glass dividers all over, photos of old people on the walls) and the outside looks exactly like it did when this place opened back in the 90’s. I don’t necessarily think it detracts from the appeal of the place though, because a good steakhouse will have that slightly«10 years ago» feel to it from my experience…
