I used to love this place. Flowers are beautiful. Great selection. Prices too high. Owners are always in bad mood. Darby is OK but other sister grumpy. Customer service needs work. Prices need to come down.

I LOVE Thanksgiving Farms! Just discovered it this spring, as I am new to MD. Joined the CSA and bought plants for my garden and a few new beds. Only the 3rd week of the CSA, but it is already so many veggies that I have been able to share with friends each week and still had many great salads and tried new recipes to use it all up. The plants are beautiful and well cared for. Darby has been there every time to give friendly advice on the plants, how to use the CSA veggies and even advice on my own garden’s plants. Looking forward to getting to come every weekend this summer!

It’s a shame: this place has a marvelous, diverse selection at fair prices, but the way at least one owner and some staff members treat customers is jarring. My family just moved into the neighborhood, and we were thrilled to discover this place. We thought we’d found a hidden gem, and in many ways we had. I found a peony I’d been trying to find for two years. The succulent section is fantastic. And the variety of herbs, local plants, shade plants, annuals, perrenials, and just about every other type of plant you can think of is unparalleled. I was gruffly treated at the checkout counter and saw another couple get treated a bit poorly, but it was a hot day, crowded, so I decided to shrug it off and treat it as a one-off. If only that had been true. Today, we went back for the second(and last) time. A thunderstorm started and they kicked everyone out because the building is metal. Now, most stores would say something like, «I’m so sorry, but it’s not safe to be in the building when there’s lightening. I hope you’ll come back another time.» But no. One of the owners drove around the parking lot, shouting that the store was closing, and to get inside. This made no sense, so we sought clarification. Then, she reappeared inside the store, screaming that they were closing and to bring our purchases to the counter. I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she was anxious and didn’t realize how incredibly hostile she was being towards customers. But storms happen a lot here, and this must be a pretty regular procedure, so I can’t find a reasonable excuse for shouting at customers. Given the rudeness I experienced myself and witnessed towards others the last time I was here, I’m more inclined to conclude that the store just doesn’t know how to treat customers. I wish I could shop here, but who wants to look at their azaleas and be reminded of how the owner screamed at them to get out?

On a busy fall afternoon, all the farms we past were packed with families and cars but why none at Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving Farms is not like many of the other farms that lures one and all from far and wide with a broad selection of pumpkins and other goodies. They seem to be more nursery oriented with pumpkins on the side. It’s not really the place to stop for veggies but if you’re looking for plants and flowers, this is the place for you.
