Imagine a small town bar with denizens so ridiculously friendly and hospitable that you instantly feel like a regular on «Cheers». The employees, the patrons, everyone. They all know one another so they’ll notice you immediately, and likely besiege you with small town charm. Cheap drinks, potluck during games, darts and pool, and did I mention the most affable people in the world? They only have bud and bud light on tap which is a bummer(no Abita on tap in Abita Springs??), but otherwise the drink selection is decent. A lively dose of sleepy town charm.

I’ve been to Rosie’s a few time and now it’s looking like we will be visiting more often. My BF just joined the dart league and I do have to say, while there is an eclectic mix of folks here, each and everyone was super nice. Yes, you do get stared at for a while and hopefully that will calm down after a few more visits. Lonnie the bartender is a super nice guy and is always on the ball. Making sure your drinks are filled and no one is out of beer. As long as you keep in mind this is a local dive bar sort of place and know that going in you will be fine. If your thinking of visiting and sipping on a nice glass of vino and snacking on apps, you will be out of luck. Oh there is no menu and I don’t believe any food is served. So don’t go in hungry!

Rosie’s is a laid back local watering hole. This is not some fancy shmancy place you would expect to find on the Northshore. It is a smoke filled real bar. Surprisingly, there is an excellent beer section including all the local brews as well as many fine imports. If you want to play pool, there are several tables available, but I am pretty pitiful so I just enjoy the beer. Bartenders and customers are very cool and friendly, but expect to be stared at cautiously if you aren’t a local. Once they warm up to you, you will be welcomed like their long lost friend. Parking is available right in front of the bar in angled parking spaces. A note of caution: Bars over here close for 2a.m. Don’t expect an all night party unless you drive up 59 to the waffle house.

This is THE local watering hole! …The Abita Brew Pub doesn’t count– that’s more of a pub/restaurant. This is a really chill local hang out spot where you can shoot pool, play darts, watch the game, and enjoy a beer. They have crap on tap, but carry a pretty good selection of bottled beers, including the Abita brews, which made me a happy camper. I have to confess, I did feel a little awkward when I walked in and definitely felt like I was being sized up(guess I didn’t really fit in…) but I stuck it out and ended up having a great time chattin’ it up with the locals. While we’re on the topic of confessions… I have to admit I have a mini-crush on bartender Pete. The man looks and talks like SAWYER from LOST. swoon*
