I reviewed this place in the past, and didn’t give it high marks, one star I believe. You can read what I wrote, but I wanted to give an updated review because it’s only fair. I have been to Dickey’s on multiple occasions now because their food is always good. One of the managers there, Grant, does a great job. He’s always friendly, courteous, and appreciative of your business. This staff has gotten their act together, and really done a 180 in my opinion. There are some things to be mindful of. Dickey’s slow cooks their meat, this takes time, and if you come to eat at the end of the day, they may be out of a particular item. You have to get over that, or get there earlier. Second, there is still one female employee there who insists on chopping the brisket into fine pieces, and she says that she«has to» because the meat is so tender in breaks apart. Nonsense. Brisket should be sliced, so whenever you get brisket just ask for it to be sliced, not chopped. Other than that, no other tips, just enjoy the food and great service. I’m really happy for Dickey’s because I think it took some effort by management to make things right, and I hope they never leave.

The food was just warm not hot upon receipt. The brisket did not have the smoked taste which you would look for when paying $ 14. per pound. Fries were too salty and the chicken breast had very little seasoning. Bad experience for me for a total of $ 27.

We moved here from Texas and were so EXCITED when Dickey’s opened, having eaten there a lot when we lived in TX. We haven’t been able to find what we think of as good barbecue, until Dickey’s. If it doesn’t have a smoke ring, it isn’t really barbecue. The staff can sometimes be hit or miss, but that can happen anywhere; 9 times out of 10 they are great. The brisket, pulled pork, the chicken, the turkey, and the polish sausage are all great!!! They are always moist, flavorful, and great with or without sauce. The coleslaw, potato salad, onion strings, baked bean, both kinds of green bean, waffle fries, and the baked potato casserole are all really, really good. We prefer the original sauce, but the spicy is runner up. The drinks are always big, which is nice so you can get a lot of iced tea. The rolls are even good, but I would save that for last so you can eat the other things. The line to order can be long, but it is well worth the wait. The longest we ever waited was about 10 minutes as the height of the lunch rush. The restaurant is always clean and the food is wonderful!

First time here and overall it’s mediocre — nothing spectacular, but nothing offensive, either. The pulled pork was tender, but not the most flavorful or moist that I’ve had. The brisket was a little dry, but still lean and tender. They were out of chicken breast at 6pm on a weeknight. I’m not sure how that happens, but that’s pretty bad to run out of something as basic as chicken when it’s not even close to closing time. The meat platter came with a roll that was boring and plain. As for the sides, the waffle fries are average. The onion straw rings were the highlight of the meal — super crisp and tasty. Baked beans are flavorless and bland, indistinguishable from a plain can of basic Campbell’s beans or whatever minimally seasoned beans you can buy at the grocery store. The Deal of the Day is a pretty good offer. We went on a Monday, so it was $ 10 for a pulled pork sandwich, 2 sides, and unlimited fountain beverage. I’d give them 3 stars for the food, but I bump them down to 2 overall because it was 81 degrees inside on the day we went, making for a very uncomfortable meal. We overheard the owner/manager say something to another customer about the unit not being able to keep up on a hot day, but I’ve never been to a restaurant that didn’t have comfortable AC just because it was 93 degrees outside. Sounds like the unit is inadequate for the space and that’s not the environment I want when I go out to eat.

I think that the pulled pork was fantastic especially with waffle fries and cole slaw as the sides. The only thing was I waited at the window for a good 10mins before anyone helped me. Not sure what that was about but I’m not someone who won’t go somewhere because of the service if they have really great food. The only other thing was paying 2.25 for a drink was a little much; think I’ll pass on that. I would recommend to anyone this place. They have daily specials as well so check those out!

Good food but nearly completely inept service. First it is good bbq not exceptional but above average. The experience is completely ruined by the staff. It’s so bad that we goof on them in line on how long it will take them not only to take your order but just to acknowledge you while they perform random tasks it’s actually hilarious because it’s taken as long as 12 minutes sometimes. And never ask them to make any real decision that deviates from SOP. No one here has the guts to do that. But if you find ineptness entertaining it’s a gold mine.

My first time here. Walked right in. No line. Ordered 1 slab of pork ribs and 1 pound of pulled pork. Very good smoke flavor on both. Smoke ring in the ribs hinted to them being the real deal. Tender, but just enough bite to let you know these weren’t cooked in a oven. Meat did have a rub on them, some may say it’s a little salty. But the BBQ sauce they give you should help. I will say that these are the best ribs in Harford county. Didn’t have sides so I can’t comment. I will tell you that I was in line at the same time that the ribs were coming out of the smoker. They looked so good I ordered a second slab. Did not award 5 because I didn’t try the sides.

The ribs here are o.k. but the sides are putrid. The mac and cheese was basically over cooked noodles in processed Velveeta cheese with no taste whatsoever. My girl friend got the baked beans that were also devoid of flavor. I asked to see the green beans with bacon and they looked scary… I went to one of these in St. Louis and the ribs were better(no raw onion or pickles… why do they want to go there?) served with the ribs. Ribs were better there. For 13.50 you get 5 ribs with two awful sides. For 14 $ you just get an extra rib without sides. I would recommend the latter option.

They have obviously been paying attention to other people’s reviews, because I did not experience any of the problems others mentioned. Every single member of the staff was friendly and kind. The line moved efficiently and the wait was not long. As a connoisseur of fine American BBQ, I found their pulled pork to be on the higher end of the scale. It was moist without being fatty, a rare combination. They had 3 types of sauces to choose from, available next to the soda machines, and the woman at the counter offered to put some in my bag for me. I preferred the sweeter sauce. Not sure if they are made in-house, but I found them to be acceptable. They have an impressive array of sides to choose from, including fried okra, onion straws, baked potato casserole, mac and cheese, and like 10 others. I had coleslaw, of course, and I thought it was quite good. It is the coarsely-cut kind, on the sweeter side, and with nary a disgusting celery seed to be found(the bane of my coleslaw-loving existence). Baked potato casserole was good, too: it consisted of basically mashed potatoes mixed with bacon and sour cream, with cheese and chives on top. I also tried some onion straws, which were great– thicker than usual onion haystacks, but thinner than onion rings, and made fresh, hot and crispy. I brought them back to my office where they promptly made the entire place smell like delicious fried onions which is probably pretty unprofessional but who cares it’s worth it. Without even knowing it, I ordered the special of the day, the one meat platter. It came with a giant drink, and only cost something like $ 11, even with the extra side I added. And I haven’t even gotten to the Game Changer yet. The coup de grace: this place has free ice cream! They keep a machine at the back with cones for you to help yourself. I didn’t have any, because when combined with the other food I ate it might have caused some type of cardiac event, but I sincerely appreciate the effort. Will definitely be back.

First and Last time I will be there. Went to this location at 8:30pm on 2÷24÷14 I asked the lady if there was any meat left and she said«ribs and macaroni» not wanting that I used the restroom as I came out noticed 2 people ordering chicken and brisket. Don’t lie to your customers because you don’t feel like serving them!!! BoxHill Pizza got my $ 50.

Unfortunately it wasn’t that great. Nice people, clean place. Slightly over priced. But mainly it just wasn’t that tasty.

This place has the potential of being good, but let us down. The food tasted good, but the service and the quantity of meat on the sandwich was slim. The line was very unorganized and they were out of the sausage and macaroni and cheese. Also, customers were having to ask for straws, forks and other condiments that they were out of at the self service station.

Awesome BBQ! I would recommend getting there before noon so you have a complete selection and everything is in stock. The pulled pork and brisket were fantastic on a sandwich roll and you even get ice cream with your meal.

We had lunch at Dickeys Barbecue Pit today 12⁄28 around 12:30. We walked up to the counter to order and were greeted by a gruff woman whose first comment to us was«for here or to go». After figuring out the ordering procedure, we then ordered a pulled pork sandwich with baked potato casserole and 3 meat plate with pulled pork, chicken and spicy cheddar sausage. Corey greeted is at the register, and he was super friendly and personable. The place wasn’t very busy so it was clean and tidy. The food was great. Good flavor, BBQ sauce is very good they have 3 different types spicy, sweet and traditional. Corey checked on us a couple of times and took our plates when we were finished. Over all we’ll be back.

Great food. All of the staff was very friendly and sincerely helpful. We went on a Sunday night. Three of us ordered the three meat platter. We had brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and chicken. All the portions were very good and plentiful. We had fried okra and onion tangles for sides, they were every good. Beans and potato salad were good. Our friends had the Mac and cheese they loved it. Our ten year old ate free and loved his free ice cream cone.

Wanted to try the Abingdon, MD restaurant to bring home food for the football game today. Extremely disappointed. Here’s the list: Ribs not even close to being ready. I would think on football Sunday, you start earlier with this. 3 orders of brisket VERY fatty. Most of it thrown away. Ordered large okra to share. Got a small Ordered a green bean side and got a BBQ beans Two bakers did NOT have what we ordered in top. Beef on the potato also fatty No bacon at all in one of the green bean sides Rolls tasted like raw dough Family agreed only edible thing were the onion tanglers We received no where near in value the $ 70.00 I spent today Oh and my wife now feels ill. I posted this review on their facebook page and did not even receive the courtesy of a response. Save your money. Very disappointed

I would have gave them at least three stars for the food but the wait was way too long. The line was at least 40 minutes on a Thursday night. When you arrive you first stand in a line to order, pay, and receive your food. During this process you will give your order to the meat carver which seems inefficient. Then you go down the assembly line to get your sides and toppings. There are still lot of kinks in the process and a lot of miscommunication such that some orders were given to the wrong people. One grip I had during this process was that when we were waiting the owner went down the line to chat with patrons but my husband and I were just ignored. Not a good move if you want repeat customers. I ended up getting a one meat plate with fried onions and okra. I had the brisket which was a bit dry but with the bbq sauce it was pretty good. Loved the sides and was excited that they had fried okra. They drop the frozen sides in the fryer when you order and they bring it to your table so it’s nice and hot. The meal also came with a roll but it was the smallest, saddest roll I have ever seen, but it was tasty. The owner did stop by while we were eating to see how things were which was nice. The cost for the amount food was a bit high in my opinion. There is free ice cream but I did not partake in that. There is also online ordering for those that don’t have all day to wait for the food. Might try that next time.

Made it to the grand opening to try out the BBQ. I got a Big Barbecue Brisket sandwich with mac&cheese and BBQ beans. I am very excited to have a BBQ joint in the area and I was very impressed with my meal and service factoring in it was their grand opening with a line out the door. The restaurant atmosphere is rustic with several tv’s mounted and music playing throughout. They have daily combo specials on the wall as you walk in. You can also order online and pick up at a separate checkout area. And of course who doesn’t like free ice cream after(or before) your meal! Highly recommend checking out Dickey’s Barbeque Pit.
