Big Johnson Liquor & Beer

Nice store with a good craft beer selection with a lot of Texas craft beer selections. Has a lot of choices for make your own mix pack. The person working was super nice and helpful. It also pretty easy to get to if you are passing through the area.

Before I had even moved to Abilene I did some research. Needed a good place to find beer in Abilene. There wasn’t many options. Johnson’s stood out as one of those places that I’d be spending time (and money) at. And coming up on two years, it hasn’t failed me.
On my very first visit I spoke with Johnny and from the get go he was both helpful and entertaining. I learned about his time in radio and his transition to opening his store. I knew I would be returning to this place as my go to beer shop. Just like the grocery stores in town, they have a build a six pack. The selection they have definitely beats what the grocery stores have and rivals that of the other liquor in town, I’ve reviewed multiple times. Both stores have good beers, but Johnson’s has had things that I haven’t found anywhere else in town.
They don’t just sell beer of course, but I don’t buy/​drink much liquor these days. But what’s cool about coming in on Fridays, they have free shots, so I’ve been able to sample some of what they carry. They have the usual brands of liquor you might come to be familiar with.
If it isn’t Johnny there behind the counter. It’s some equally nice and helpful person. Never had a bad experience here. It won’t be too long before my next visit.

A decent new liquor store near the mall. I stopped in to buy some Jack Daniels as Christmas gifts for family members. The man working the counter (Big Johnson himself?) never said a word to me. Not welcome — not can I help you — nothing. Fine. But then they were sold out of the «normal» size of Jack. They only had the jumbo size or the gift back that came with glasses. I’m sorry, but how does a liquor store sell out of Jack? It’s a staple!
Overall, my experience was quick and painless. Could be better, could be worse.

Located very close to Target and the mall, Big Johnson is a well stocked adult beverage locale. For the Abilene area I was impressed with the beer selection. A Deschutes experimental IPA, multiple items from the Unibroue brewery, and New Belgium 6 packs. The man working the store was very friendly and helpful, and I’m guessing if you are a regular they can probably special order items. If I lived out here this would be my go-​to for beer and wine.

Best beer selection in town! Ive asked for couple of special beers and they got them in on the next truck!
