Tomato soup was delicious and filling, with baked cheese on top. Side salad was fine. The chicken Caesar wrap was good too. Prices are high for the area but not for a good restaurant. We came for lunch, so curious to see how the quality compares for dinner. Server was college student home on break but very attentive and helpful.

We were looking for the Underside Pub which received great reviews on Unilocal — never knew it was part of the Altland House which I thought would be fine dining for blue hairs —(I know I am getting there…). But — the pub was closed so we made our way upstairs for a really late lunch/early dinner. We ended up at the bar to watch the game. Happy surprise — they brew their own beer — Center Square — three varieties on tap: pale ale, seasonal and alt. Three bucks a glass — and the pale ale and alt very tasty. Didn’t try the seasonal as I was told it was wheaty — not a fan. And they gave us a basket of homemade chips with a balsamic concoction and parm cheese — YUM. Next happy surprise: the food was yummo. Great menu offers a swath of options. If you want the high end dining experience — pick a candlelit table in the dining room and great sounding entrees. We were doing casual so I ordered the roasted veggie and pesto quesadilla — beyond delicious. Homemade wrap — perfectly roasted veggies with pesto and mozzarella — more of the balsamic drizzle — hubby had the firecracker shrimp wrap and French fries. Loved it. Oh and their French fries are the bomb. We may have to move to be closer to this place — service was exceptional. Highly recommend.

I’ve eaten here 3 times and i have yet to be impressed. I’ve heard good things about this place but i’m not sure why. Dinner is too pricey for the quality of food you actually get and there’s nothing special about any of the dishes. I was very excited to try Sunday brunch there but was horribly disappointed. The chefs don’t care about the quality or the presentation of food that they send out. How do you seriously burn eggs & quiche… and then send it out like we’re not going to notice? Need to hire better chefs if you’re going to charge those prices!

Okay, let’s get serious here. I was really excited to stay at this hotel. I have to say that it has a certain charm. However, it is very expensive and not worth it. It is outdated and the rooms(or the hallway upstairs) were not. Very. clean. They also don’t mention in any review anywhere that for some reason, for a small town the road outside was ridiculous. This hotel is on a roundabout. Starting at about 5 am GIANT semi trucks roll past! If you are on a business trip DONOTSTAYHERE! In the course of the three days I booked we were internet less more than we had it. The water doesn’t get hot and I was not comfortable sitting in a dirty tub. If you prize your wallet do not venture into the Atland house restaurant upstairs(downstairs pub is amazing!). Rude and inattentive servers await you. This is the first place I have ever been that I have not left a tip! Our waitress had no social graces and flopped the plates on the table, frankly she made us uncomfortable. I will not recommend or stay here ever again!

We travelled here during our annual boys golf trip. The service was great and very friendly. All of the dishes we ordered were all very flavorful and without exception very good. There was a great selection of specials. The crab cakes were some of the biggest we’ve have in our travels. Dessert menu was quite varied and the peanut butter chocolate cake was a favorite of the table. To top it all off, they had a great selection of local and regional beers, and we were able to get tasters to see which of the beers we wanted.

Was excited to try this place out for years. What a let down. Decided to take a look at the menu on line to get a preview of what was to come. Menu on line looked great. Got to the resteraunt and the menu was a deconstructed mess of pub food and very few fine dinning items. When I asked the wautress what happened to the menu that was on line, she replied we have been meaning to change that for months. Really!!! All I can say was food was average. Waitress was good but very over worked since it was her and another waitress taking orders and making drinks. A hostess that did the best she could to help out. And a manager that only went to the tables of the obvious few regulars that came in to dine. Not a good dinning experience in the least.

Overview: Overpriced food served in a beautiful building. Food: The food here is good, but overpriced. I have no problem paying for good food, but the food at the Altland House is pretty average, nothing spectacular. I’ve been here a few times and have never been amazed at any of their dishes. Their Maryland Crab soup is pretty bland in my opinion. Having grown up in Maryland and being raised on true Maryland Crab soup, I can say this is a pretty watered down version of it. On my last trip, I tried the Blackened Salmon BLT, which was better. However, with so many strong flavors shoved on one sandwich, it was really overpowering and also extremely salty. Salmon, blackening seasoning, pancetta, and a basil aioli(that I could taste no basil in)? Just a bit much. The sweet potato fries were my favorite part of the meal. Recommend: The pub burger. Atmosphere: The restaurant is undeniably lovely, with a very pretty interior and great view of the square if you happen to get a window seat. Downstairs is currently being renovated to add in a brewery, but should be equally as nice when it is finished. Service: The staff are definitely the best part of The Altland House. Our server was very attentive, even though she was extremely busy. In fact, it was nearly an hour before our food arrived, but our server was so sweet, I didn’t really mind. Our glasses were always filled, she checked in on us at regular intervals, and brought us everything we needed promptly.

So torn… This place is so cute and full of possibilities but it falls short of playing the A-Game I would hope to see on New Years. I am so put off I plan to write them a letter so I will try to keep it positive here because they could certainly use the business. The dinner was good and better than last time but there were some glitches in what they called this or that dish verses what it actually was. {{GRUMBLE}} Dinner: Baked Brie garnished with fresh berries… tasty and what you would expect Fried Green Tomato Caprese… tasty and I am very picky about my fried green tomatoes Gorgonzola Pear Salad… Honey poached? Sorry, I detected no honey and my taste buds are sharp. Merlot Vinaigrette? It should be red NOT clear… quit trying to blow smoke up my skirt. {{GRUMBLE}} Parmesan Crusted Chicken… tasty and what you would expect. Horseradish Crusted Salmon… I detected no horseradish :/it didn’t taste bad… just lacked the {{snap}} of horseradish. However, the citrus fernet tasted very citrusy but not really a fernet. This link will explain a fernet what we had was a citrus sauce and I’m sure you could call it sauce aux agrume if a French feel was your aim OR salsa agli agrumi for an Italian feel… fernet is Italian btw. I added all the translation crappola(I believe that would be Italian ;)) to show how just because the MENU indicates its something it doesn’t make it so. Bread with dippy sauce… we actually had to ask for it and we were told the hostess usually delivers the bread. HuH? You mean the one who ran by in a blur? Desert was {toasted} coconut ice cream from Becks(local dairy), it was divine. Service was fabulous, once we were seated. Seems as though the hostess was seating folks, showing them to their rooms(she showed us to ours), AND addressing dinners concerns. Actually, I’m not certain about that last one… she just whizzed by a few times as we patiently waited to be seated. While we were standing there two gentleman walked by without addressing us but then one came back while the other(I think) cleaned off the wrong table for us. We asked for a specific table and it was free… but we had to ‘claim’ it after being directed to the wrong table. The chocolate martinis were yummy good but the French one was way too sweet… ACK…that maybe personal taste or NOT, both of us didn’t like it. Our room: It was interesting, as in, decorated VERY eccentrically. Really. It had a numerous pocket doors and one door was covered in quilted leather and there were well placed mirrors. hehehehehe What a HOOT! We had room 33 which normally would come with a hot tub but a week prior we were told it was broken and 20.00 could be removed from our bill and another room offered. This offer really didn’t satisfy me but at the last minute, where were we to go? We decided to keep the room sans the hot tub. Despite the short comings, we had a great time. It’s unlikely we will rent a room here again but we might stop by and have a beer on the porch or is it veranda? Maybe, deck… hmmm *shrug*. If you get a room, please… check room 33 out. It is interesting, and maybe, that hot tub will get fixed… or not.

I wrote review under their sister resturant as well, but this place is great! The food is local and fresh and the service was awesome! Not a lot of choices for fine dining in the area, but this one is pretty great. Definitly be returning here again soon!

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary, it was not a place I would return to. First the room was not as clean. There were bugs on the window sill, the white towels had stains on them, the breakfast left a lot to the imagination and tje room we were in was very loud due to the circle outside the building. The windows are so old the least they could do it put sound proofing ones in in addition to cleaning better. I would not return, nor do I recommend it.

Good food… very bad service. There is nothing more welcoming that an empty hostess stand. And that is how our evening started…2 other couples and ourselves in waiting for a hostess. If she is going to seat guest there should be some one else there to greet the guests and not have them just stand there awkwardly. We eventually were seated in a rather unique banquette a big round thing that held 5 groups of guests. However since there was no background music you could hear each and every conversation. So the people to my right spent the entire meal talking about all their various dietary issues. The folks to my left were talking about how much they travel with work and when they retire they won’t want to travel. The folks behind us were discussing all the medical issues some family member was dealing with… in graphic detail. Then came our server… Joan…she was… I am guessing not real happy to work. She was rather curt with the order taking process. I asked not to have the aioli on my crab and ham flatbread. She even repeated«no aioli on the flatbread»…she brought the plates… and plucked them down with all the grace and style of a drunken lout. I looked at all the aioli on my flatbread and said…“Excuse me I thought I asked for no aioli?” Yea… you did…” and then she rolled her eyes. …Was it at me? the kitchen? Who? She said not a word as she took the plate…“no I am sorry”…“I will get it right away”…Nothing. My lovely was ¾ done with her blackened chicken scaloppine before my now aioli free crab and ham flatbred was dropped on the table. And she removed the dirty plates with the same panache she had placing them, heavy handed and cloddingly. At no time did she check on our meal or refill our water. She walked by and dropped off the dessert card like she was placing coupons on a windshield at a WalMart. And it is a shame… the meal was very good. I tried my lovely’s blackened chicken scallopine and it was great. And I loved my aioli less crab and ham flatbread. But the sour dour Joan really brought the whole experience down. Actually it eventually became comical how she would avoid making eye contact with us… it was almost like I was the Elephant Man or something. Good food… just maybe go have your meal at the Underside Bar. Perhaps the experience will be better.

Three of us walked in for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated promptly and the service was excellent throughout the meal. The wine list isn’t terribly extensive, but the selections are good. Overall a delicious meal. The bread was warm and soft, and the plate of parmesan cheese, garlic and blue cheese butter spread served with it was excellent. We ordered chicken wings as an appetizer — this was my one compliant. The flavor was decent, but they were much too breaded. We didn’t finish them. For entrees we had a burger, chicken parmesan, and the open faced meatloaf sandwich. Everyone was pleased with their meal. The serving size for the chicken parm was HUGE — more than enough for another meal the next day. The burger was cooked properly(medium). We would return; I recommend!

Visited Gettysburg for the 150th with my family. Took the back roads traveling there and stumbled upon this charming Inn. I’ve been in the restaurant/hotel biz for 35 yearis and will gladly recommend Altland House. Enjoyed an early dinner at 4pm on a Friday. Had the Smokehouse Burger with sweet potato fries. The meat was fresh ground chuck w BBQ sauce, bacon, cheddar and deep fried onions. Bun was toasty and fresh. Fries were lightly salted and delicious. I know, how can you rate a burger 5 stars? Trust me. One of the best I’ve had. Service was efficient and pleasant.

There is no better place to stop for dinner while traveling along the bizarre 3 lane Rt. 30 highway between York and Gettysburg than Lulu’s Grill in the Atland House Inn. I have been stopping here for years and the food is always marvelous and the service first rate. Their French onion soup is the best I have tried across five continents of travel. Don’t skip the desserts.
