Last time here it had just opened and needed a lot of work, I thumbed it down and now here is my promised return review. Things have improved, but still a way to go. For some reason they seat you in the bar instead of the dining room, which is the«overflow» seating. So table sucked. Service was OK, just got the tea wrong. They did improve on the roasted oysters a LOT. I think 3 or 4 versions are available but the menu is misleading and doesn’t mention they are roasted. We got the«classic» half dozen and I really liked the charred cheese taste and light salt seasoning. I’m upping that to a dozen if I come back. That was the highlight for me. I also tried ½ dozen raw this time around, and they were nice and plump and fresh. There are the requisite condiments, garlic sauce, worcestershire, pepper sauce and ketchup on the table now to make your own seafood sauce, and will bring out horseradish on request. We then split the seafood platter, which is overpriced at $ 26. Good fish, the batter was well seasoned and not too thick, but the froglegs, while humongous, were bland with a batter that simply refused to stick to the meat. Everything was cooked properly enough. The étouffée balls were pretty good, just not my favorite, and the shrimp was probably the best; good seasoning and batter. But I don’t recommend the seafood platter for that price, best get one of the other 3 straight platters of catfish, shrimp, or oysters for $ 16 to $ 20(that’s all the platters, folks) or I would get a ½ n ½ which they can do.

I have no idea how this place has so many 4 and 5 star reviews. The service was terrible. Twice I had to ask another waitress to tell my waitress to come to our table. And she only had 1 other table so it’s not like she was super busy. 10 minutes till we got our drinks. Then just over an hour till our food came out. I think it is because the gratuity is included on tables more than 8 people(we were 10) they feel they don’t have to try too hard cause they will get a tip no matter what. I see why there is a 1 hour wait at Dupuy’s next door and no wait at Black’s. Years ago Black’s was the place to go clearly that is no longer true.
