Garimba Sur

The place was suggested by our travel guide, so we checked it out for lunch. It’s easy to get to since it’s right at the Plaza de Espana. Which unfotunately also leads to it being quiet noisy, since the cars are going by and were honking like crazy.
The food was good. We had some tapas and the salmorejo. The later one was okay, the ham kind of made it. The toast with caramelized onions was a dream. The patatas baravas on the other hand were a real disappointment. From the other tapas we were expecting more than just undercooked potatoes with the same sauce used on the toast. i’ve eaten better ones at less pricey restaurants.

Let’s start with the waiters: very friendly! The food: outstanding! The name «taberna — cervezeria» a clear euphemism! Quality and presentation of the food is fantastic. Accomplished by the pleasant atmosphere/​decoration a reason for its own to visit this beautiful village.

We stopped here for a lunch in vejer. The food was excellent, especially the tartar tuna. Slightly pricey, but definitely worth it.

We came for a «Tapas» lunch. The location right on the square is picturesque. The wait staff was smartly attired, efficient, and non obstrusive. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. The portions, even as Tapas, were small and a little more expensive then the norm. The whole experience was a little more formal than the usual tapas bar, but enjoyable.

El restaurante Garimba Sur fue pionero en introducir la nueva cocina en Vejer de la Frontera. Su local, situado en la plaza de España, en la parte antigua del pueblo, fue uno de los primeros que empezó a «reinventar» recetas con los ingredientes más clásicos del mercado.
El local combina elementos tradicionales con un diseño más moderno pero su principal atractivo es la terraza con mesitas que tiene en la misma plaza en la que se puede disfrutar de las tapitas al aire libre.
La combinación de ingredientes clásicos con cocina moderna se puede apreciar desde el principio ya que al llegar, los camareros ofrecen como aperitivo un poco de aceite de oliva Virgen Extra con pan. Su carta ofrece tanto tapas como platos más grandes. Una de las tapas que más me gusta es la regañá con tomate y sardina ahumada, que aunque algo difícil de comer, está bastante sabrosa y el contraste entre la textura de la sardina y el crujiente de la regañá es bastante interesante. Además, también tienen platos más clásicos como el calamar de potera de la zona a la plancha o el solomillo de retinto, muy bueno también. Otro de los platos que más me gusta es la carrillera con arroz y salsa de curry. La carne suele estar en su punto justo y la salsa es bastante original.
El servicio y la atención de los camareros es bastante bueno pero considero que el precio de las tapas y los platos en general está un poco inflado.

The food’s great — upmarket Andalucian tapas, really — the interiors are chic, and the location, right on Vejer’s beautiful (and in summer, very lively) Plaza de Espana, is fab. All in all, top marks.
