Catalina

Located next to several other notable restaurants (Viñeria San Telmo and Modesto) on the edge of the Santa Cruz neighborhood, Catalina might be easy to overlook, but don’t let the stiff competition scare you away. Unilocal (and TripAdvisor) reviews were on point when it came to Catalina, as the restaurant ranked as one of my favorites in Seville!
Since I have food allergies, it can sometimes be difficult to travel abroad, but I didn’t have any issues picking out appropriate food at Catalina. Although the restaurant has an allergy menu, I elected to ask our waitress about specific items on the menu. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and was accommodating and helpful when certain things didn’t fit our needs. While I mostly spoke Spanish to the staff, everyone spoke decent English; there were definitely no communication barriers here. The menu itself featured an extensive array of tapas that were reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of the food. Here’s what we ordered:
— Solomillo iberico (€ 12.90) — Simply delicious Small pieces of grilled pork atop slices of potato. Two types of sauces — one sweet and one savory/​spicy. Put together, they were amazing.
— Bacalao Catalino (€ 4.5) — This was the highlight of the meal for me! Lightly fried piece of cod (super tender) with a wonderful, layered tomato sauce. It was so good I ended up ordering another plate.
— Chipirones (€ 4) — The restaurant had run out of squid so they offered us the cuttlefish as a substitute. The dish featured super tender cuttlefish and delicious garlicky/​basil sauce.
— Jamon iberico — small portion (25g) but still good quality. Served with breadsticks instead of bread and tomato sauce.
— Sangria — The best part about Catalina’s sangria was the giant cinnamon stick! It added tons of flavor and really elevated the drink from more generic versions of sangria.
If you ever find yourself in Seville, do yourself a favor and check out Catalina!

We chose this place based on other Unilocal reviews. As usual, Unilocalers won’t lead you wrong. We really like this place even though there weren’t a lot of people there. The food was really tasty, however the sangria was just okay.
We decided to do a tapas crawl and go somewhere else, but I was totally disappointed at the next stop and we wished we had stayed at Catalina.

Catalina was recommended by our tour guide in Seville, and he did not lead us astray. We sat on the patio and enjoyed great service. The menu is very unique and we had some stellar dishes here. Eric R. started with a Greek salad, which had olives, eggs, and tomatoes and was quite different from what we think of as a Greek salad in the US but still tasty. I started with the rice cooked in squid ink with grilled squid, topped with garlic aioli. It was phenomenal! Eirc R. then ordered chicken curry with rice and a puff pastry with shrimp, squash and curry. I ordered the eggplant cake with goat cheese and potato. Everything was so delicious! We finished the meal with the dulce de leche and meringue mille-​feuille for dessert with green tea. The server was friendly and efficient and helped explain the menu when we asked questions. I definitely recommend eating here in Seville!

With great prices and wonderful food, we have been 2x in 24 hours. The cuddle fish with black rice, shrimp & mushroom crêpe, both eggplant dishes (though the one with goat cheese & tomato jam was my fav), spinach salad, omelette, grilled squid– all great. The curry chicken was ok, too. Not very spicy. The staff here have, both times, been wonderful and nice, too! Thanks!

Le menu del dia à 9 € nous a tenté.
Pour ce modeste prix, nous avons eu un plat typiques épinards pois chiche, puis poulet pommes de terre, puis fruit ou café et une boissons.
C’était en plus très bon.
Nous y retournerons volontiers.

Aunque el servicio es simpático, la calidad no justifica unos precios tan altos. Las tapas son muy caras, muy pequeñas, y si originalidad ni lleva a buen puerto. Las bebidas dejan mucho que desear.

Très bons tapas, nous étions entourés de gens locaux. Les prix étaient raisonnables. Je recommande si vous passez dans le coin!

El servicio estuvo muy bien. No es caro para la zona que está de Sevilla, aunque tampoco es excesivamente barato. Las tapas están bien de tamaño y sabor, muy recomendada la tapa «Solomillo.sólo tuyo». 7 tapas y 5 bebidas 35 €

Cutest staff. Wonderful food. Reasonably priced. We walked almost a mile which in Sevilla is a trek to this place and were pleasantly welcomed. The food was fast and delicious. We had the eggplant cake, grilled squid, chicken w honey mustard and the chicken curry. So yummy!

Realmente quede impresionado el dia que visite por primera vez el Catalina., el resultado fue bastante satisfactorio. La comida buena y bien elaborada, los productos de una calidad impresionante. El personal ofreciendote en todo momento un trato correcto y amable, cosa en lo que yo hago siempre mucho incapie. Calidad-​precio corresponde. Lo recomiendo.

Pongo tres estrellas por que el trato de una de sus trabajadoras fue muy desagradable conmigo y mis amigas. Primero de todo nos tacho de que le habíamos pedido la bebida mal, cuando, claramente esa mujer, la mayores de todas, repitió el pedido de cervezas perfectamente antes de irse, cuando lo trajo y se lo comentamos dijo, si, claro, yo siempre me equivoco, con un rintintin qué deja mucho que desear. Después hizo lo mismo con otro pedido de cervezas que hicimos más adelante. Preguntamos si podíamos comer con un plato, mis amigas y yo no somos de Sevilla y no sabemos mucho como va el tema de platos y tapas por ahí, y nos contestó, literalmente, «ni de coña».
Se salva por que la comida realmente estaba buena, quedé tan decepcionada que ni recuerdo que pedimos. Si no recuerdo mal, tortilla de patata, saquitos de morcilla y tres tapas más, que como os digo, no puedo ni recordar.
Recomendación encarecida la tarta de queso con arándanos. Bien situado.

Visited four cities across Spain for the last two weeks. This was, by far, the best tapas bar we visited. Great service and amazing food! Some the most innovative and creative plates and flavors I’ve visited in Spain, Europe or back home in California. It was so good we went for lunch AND dinner on the same day!
This place has made our visit to Spain on of the most memorable.

Delicious tapas restaurant in Seville! we came here on a whim after seeing it in a guide book. we ordered the mixed salad, baked eggplant cake with goat cheese and paprika, small puffy pastry filled with prawn squash and curry, as well as sirloin with potatoes and sweetened onions. last was milhojas de dulce de leche for dessert. mouthwatering good food especially the puff pastry prawn and the sirloin. we are staying in Seville for three days and will definitely be back!

Service was excellent. We got freshly squeezed orange juice, curry chicken and rice, mushroom rice, eggplant y paprika and mushroom y shrimp crêpe. Crêpe and chicken rice were great. The eggplant was dry. Overall, we were very hungry and happy with both food and quick and friendly service.

Food was good. Actually quite good. Good value too. But the location ain’t so cute. Ideally it would have a better view of the castle. 3.75 stars

Some of the best tapas I’ve had! We got the tapas (big portions though!) of the mixed vegetables with goat cheese and tomato sauce (eggplant and zucchini), chicken with curry and rice, patatas with two sauces, black rice with cuttlefish and aoili, and finished with a cold dulce de Leche dessert. Everything was delicious, the sauces especially and the portions were a great value! Planning our return for lunch already!

Fantastic food… loved the tapas. The Sangria is the best I’ve had in Seville. Highly recommended.

Hemos ido al bar Catalina por que lo hemos visto recomendado en Unilocal.Las tapas están muy ricas y el jamón iberico impresionante. Os pongo unas fotos de lo que hemos pedido. No dejeis de ir si pasais por Sevilla.

Excellent bar à tapas, les produits sont de qualité variés. Vaut vraiment le détour si vous êtes dans le coin de Reales Alcazar où il faut éviter les restaurants touristiques.

I went based on Unilocal and was severely disappointed. The food wasn’t offensive and service was fine but certainly nothing special and was a touch expensive. The food was all a bit greasy or uninteresting. Given the number of good tapas restaurants in Seville I would not recommend.

Very good food and very reasonably priced. Nice ambience and good service. I found it through fellow Unilocalers and because of the good reviews We visited; twice!!! First time was better than the second but still really good. We were happier with tapas than with plates. Price was very good considering many places in Spain are super expensive. In summary; good food, good prices and good service.

It was really lovely to be able to sit outside in the sub and just enjoy the ambience. The whole experience was made ever more rewarding by the amazingly simple, fresh and deliciously wonderful food from Catalina.
We were a party of 3 and we had salads, 3 tapas each and drinks and still didn’t break the bank. We each had something different and everything was really lovely. The fish with the salsa was really to die for and I especially enjoyed the Spanish omelette with fried onions and potatoes.
The service was also pretty fast once you placed your order. I’m only deducting one star because of the less than stellar service. The restaurant wasn’t very busy and there were two servers but they weren’t the most attentive. Every time that we wanted something, we had to call out to them.

Cenamos mi pareja y yo de rebote, ya que íbamos a otro sitio pero no encontramos mesa libre.
El sitio resultó una agradable sorpresa. Situado justo en el lateral de los Jardines de Murillo, ambiente agradable. La atención es rápida y amable, a pesar de estar lleno. Y lo mejor sin duda la carta, llena de tapas variadas y nada típicas. Nada caro y comida muy buena.
Por poner una pega diré que si bien el postre que me pedí estaba muy bueno (tarta de queso con frutas del bosque) la variedad de postres es bastante escueta…

In our five day stay in Sevilla we kept coming and coming back to this place.

We were looking for tapas after an awesome flamenco show. Found this spot on Unilocal,and it was awesome. Lots of variety, and they are open late! Prices are typical.
We had a mix of meat and cheese dishes and left totally satisfied.

La verdad, todo hay que decirlo, Unilocal es una aplicación que te ayuda a ir a caballo ganador, me puse a buscar una vineria, con más de cuatro estrellas y apareció Catalina, curiosamente al lado de Vineria San Telmo, otra obra de arte gastronómica que nos regala Sevilla.
Variedad de tapas, acompañado de un gran vino blanco, acompañado de una mujer como la mía, diversidad de soluciones, atraco de buen comer a un precio magnífico para lo que te brinda el sitio, RECOMENDADISIMO!

Hoy hemos tapeado aquí. Increíble las tapas. El sabor, la presentación y la cantidad de ellas. Recomiendo el pollo al curry y el floripondio de huevo. Recomendado en mayúsculas.

If you get here before 2PM, opt for the 3-​course meal for only 8 euros (which includes a glass of wine, beer, or non-​alcoholic drink)! We opted for the gazpacho, paella, and fruit dessert. The servings were hearty — so much so that I actually wasn’t able to finish the dessert. The highlight for me was the gazpacho, which was speckled with bits of egg and Spanish-​style dried ham.
We also ordered the cheese, eggplant, and paprika tapa. Maybe we were too full to appreciate it, but it honestly wasn’t that tasty. It kind of looked like a giant turd, and the goat cheese was much too strong.
That said, Catalina’s has a really nice outdoor seating area. It’s a good spot to sit at, since this is a pretty touristy area, and therefore a good people-​watching spot.

The fare is a bit more creative than your average tapas bar.
Sometimes, while crawling for tapas, you need a break from the usual. When you’ve had more manchego than mankind can handle, and the jamon is oozing from your pores, try this place.
Fried camembert with tomato jam (move over, ketchup), eggplant dishes, and crepes (we had the shrimp and mushroom) were excellent. Even their basic chicken kebabs were nicely marinated. The raciones are rather large, I think those in our party felt they over-ordered…I stuck to the tapas and was pleased.
Plenty of outdoor seating. Life doesn’t get much better than a glass of wine, a plate of tapas, and a nice day in Sevilla.

The food was great and the waitress was working her hiney off. Close to everything, but just a smidge out of the mainstream, this was a great place to stop for lunch. So glad I happened upon this place.

This was another place we stopped at while in Sevilla, and boy am I glad we did. The people were very friendly and the food was great.
The main dish that stuck out the most was a pork loin dish with mojo and caramelized onions. These were so good we ordered 2 orders these.
It’s amazing how much more you can get for your money in Sevilla than Madrid or Barcelona. The quality of food is remarkable here and the price is even better.

El sábado y el domingo cenamos en el Catalina, y si repetimos en este sitio fue por algo.
En principio íbamos a cenar en una vinería que hay justo al lado, pero al estar la terraza llena, Ángel propuso el Catalina, un lugar que ponen unas tapas muy apañas! Éramos un grupito bastante grande pues habían venido unos amigos de Madrid que estaban en el EBE.
Cada uno nos pedimos tres tapas, más unas de croquetas de rabo de toro para compartir (deliciosas). Allí cada uno pidió un poco según su afinidad, yo tomé cucus de langostino, una crêpe de langostino y bife argentino. Las croquetas eran deliciosas (aunque tocamos a una), el bife estaba muy bien hecho, y la crêpe de boletus y langostinos todavía mejor. Todos salimos muy satisfechos del sitio. Las tapas, todas rondan los tres euros (un poco más).
El domingo, como nos quedamos con ganas de repetir algunas de las tapas que habían pedido nuestros amigos, y las dos camareras nos habían tratado tan bien en la terraza, volvimos a cenar. Anoche había menos gente y nos sirvieron en un momento. El risoto de setas también estaba delicioso.
Recomendable 100% y baratito (alrededor de 12 euros por cabeza cada noche).

Este lugar es punto obligado de visita para tus comidas. ¿Cómo una cocina tan básica con una pequeña elaboración puede resultar sublime? Una carta imaginativa, unos platos que sacian, un ambiente genial y una ubicación privilegiada son sus puntos fuertes.
Las camareras son tremendamente amables y simpatiquísimas, te atienden enseguida. ¿Y para comer? A día de hoy ya no hacen uno de mis favoritos, que eran unos envueltos caramelizados de morcilla, cuyo aspecto recordaba a una manzana asada vuelta del revés. Una pena. Sin embargo, las tapas actuales me han hecho olvidarlos.
Si lo tuyo son las croquetas, pides las de espinacas con piñones y queso o las de cola de toro. Si eres de filetitos, pues te recomiendo el solomillo con salsa de miel y mostaza (diría que sobre todo por esa deliciosa salsa). Y para los más sanotes, el arroz con boletus. ¡Buen provecho!

Tapas riquísimas y cantidad suficiente a un precio sensato.
Imprescindible probar el crêpe de langostinos y setas, cous-​cous de langontisnos y el pollo al curry.
Generalmente hay cola para sentarse en las mesas de la terraza, aunque el tiempo de espera es razonable, mientras puedes tomarte una cerveza en el interior del local.
Las empleadas generalmente son extranjeras, rápidas y agradables, no les falta una sonrisa en la cara. Aunque podemos apreciar su asfixia cuando sólo hay 2 camareras atendiendo a todas las mesas del exterior e interior.
Además son jóvenes e inexpertas, por lo que en más de una ocasión nos han servido el vino caliente, y ante las quejas han optado por ponerlo en la nevera y hacernos esperar a que enfriara, antes que ofrecernos otro de características similares para no tener que empezar a comer sin bebida.
Si la cena acaba en copa y te alargas más de la cuenta, te dejan disfrutar de tu estancia hasta que está todo totalmente recogido.

El ‘solomillo Solotuyo’ y las ‘Crêpe de Gorgonzola pasas y piñones’ no se pueden olvidar. Es verdad lo del buen trato. Voy bastante para allá.

Es un sitio al que solemos ir habitualmente, tienen buena comida, buenos postres y una estupenda atención.
Lo recomiendo totalmente.
