The welcome was a little cold, especially after selecting the 10 € Set Menu. If you don’t like people asking for it — don’t offer it ! They allow smokers which made our meal a little uncomfortable!

If you fancy a leisurely Sunday lunch in the beautiful upmarket setting at the marina in Puerto Calero… but you really feel you can’t afford it… don’t think twice, just head to El Tomate. For the brilliant price of a mere € 10 you can enjoy a three course meal including a glass of house wine… I kid you not… yes the choice is pretty limited and the food fairly ordinary and not fancy although nicely presented, but you could not argue with that price. Starters include mixed salad, potato and fish croquettes, chicken nuggets, canarian soup, mains — grilled fish, chicken, pork, deep fried fish, served with salad and canarian potatoes. The nuggets and croquettes appeared to be cooked from frozen but were okish! Third course was either coffee or chocolate mousse/crème caramel. Plain and ordinary food but served in a beautiful setting by a lovely friendly warm waitress, although her colleague, the owner, was rather sour and a little grumpy! If you are travelling from Pto. del Carmen and feeling energetic you could walk along the fabulous and scenic rural cliff top«dirt track/path» in about an hour. For those less energetic, take a taxi for just over € 6, you won’t regret the experience either way, plus your pocket will not be empty either — especially after your lunch at El Tomate.
