My apartment in Chicago, when fully furnished and decorated, is going to be awesome. And by awesome, I mean that it will most likely have an identity crisis. Case in point: the minimalist coffee table from the MoMA Design Store is going to seat a ceramic queimada[1] drinking set. But seriously, why pay the exorbitant prices in Vigo for Galician ceramics and souvenirs, when much less kitschy finds and Sargadelos-esque ceramics [2] are available at a fraction of the price in the beautiful town of Nigrán? The selection of ceramics may not be on par with a more touristic locale, but there are plenty of beautiful azure blue and white works of art for sale. Plates, vases, and figurines with very typical Galician symbols(fishermen, boats, owls, witches) are very reasonably priced. After purchasing a few as gifts, a very helpful cashier carefully wrapped everything, ensuring that my ceramics would make the transatlantic voyage intact. In conclusion, you can have copies of your keys made, buy gardening supplies(and maybe a cafetera), AND purchase all of your Galician ceramics at Joyma. One-stop shopping indeed. [1] [2]
