Came here on a Saturday night after reading the great reviews on Unilocal, and were sorely disappointed. Yeah, the beer is cheap and yes, you get a free tapas with every 2 beers ordered. It sounds awesome in theory, but the food and service are terrible. My friend and I ordered a couple of beers as we sat down, and not long afterward the beers arrived along with a complimentary small plate of chicken and sausage paella, and a basket of bread(which was not ordered however still charged .30c each for). The paella tasted of vinegar, the rice was mushy and the chicken and sausage were boiled and soggy. We had chosen our mains, but in the next 20 minutes in which we tried to flag down our waiter to order, we watched the other meals being brought to tables and they looked unappetizing to say the least. Instead, we got our bill and went to a restaurant around the corner. Best decision we made all night!

Read a number of positive reviews for this place and decided to check it out. Most of the reviews praised it for its low prices… and that’s about all it has going for it. We ordered two beers and received a free tapas of chicken and sausage paella along with it. It was pretty disgusting. The rice was soggy, the meats boiled to within an inch of their life and the sauce tasted sour and was very greasy. While I love nothing more than a bargain, I do have my limits. Though the beer was cold, the free tapas just wasn’t up to snuff and free tapas does not a good restaurant make. Add to that the terrible service, we sat there for well over twenty minutes waiting for a server who never reappeared until we finally tackled another server — not even joking — to get our bill. Avoid it unless all you want is cheap food and really couldn’t give a rat’s ass about whether or not it’s edible.

Inexpensive drinks, complimentary tapas, friendly service … what more could you ask for? The appropriately named«El Tapy», located near Picasso’s boyhood home on Plaza Merced(Merced Square) in the northern portion of Málaga’s «Old Town», is much larger than it appears from the street. There is a maze of several large air conditioned rooms as you meander your way toward the kitchen in the back. Menus are on the walls and the table with cheap drinks(draft beer € 1-€ 3 and tinto de verano € 1.20) and array of Spanish foods to choose from. I ordered a tinto de verano, a refreshing summer drink(hence the name) with a mix of local red wine, sparkling lemonade, and a slice of lemon. When it arrived, the waiter also brought a small plate of paella as a free tapa. A drink and a plate of food for € 1.20 … unheard of! I made the mistake of ordering the Patatas Bravas(sliced potatoes in a spicy chili sauce — € 4) and Chorizo Rojos(red Spanish sausage — € 5) before my next drink(and complimentary tapa) arrived, this time an Ensalada Rusa(Russian salad, aka potato salad). My sausage and potatoes were soon delivered, the potatoes, too much to eat for one person, and the sausages(3) were very good, but when my next drink arrived(the tintos are quite small by the way), it was accompanied by another free tapa, this time two large marinated chicken wings. By the time I left I was stuffed, but the bill for four drinks(two tintos, two cervesas), three tapas, potatoes, and sausages came to a little over € 16, quite cheap for the amount of food I received. The food was decent, the portions fair, and the prices reasonable. CombatCritic Gives El Tapy 7 Out Of 10 Bombs … Bombs Are Good! Awesome place… looks empty from street but back of restaurant is full of locals. For every two drinks ordered you get a free tapa. Tapas are large in size. You can order beer for .90 euro! We ordered tinto de verano for 1.30 euro. Tapas provided were excellent in flavor and large in size. Drinks had more wine than soda! Service was excellent. Bread is provided for .50 euro. I would definitely return.

This is defiantly the place if you’re hungry! They call it tapas, but I’ve never seen so much food. We ordered several dishes, thinking it would be a good idea to shear all the little tapas plates witch only cost around € 4. The Spanish waiter actually had to say stop, because we ordered to much. Oh boy, we did! We couldn’t eat 50% of the food. They also bring you a complimentary dish for every beer you order. I guess this is a good thing, but sense we didn’t know this, we ended up eating way to much and feeling kinda sick. The staff was really nice though, and had understanding for our«situation». Lol. No credit card payment and no Wi-Fee.

PD: Nos vemos en otro check in.

Great place– staff all great, food is delicious and it’s ridiculously cheap! They bring you free tapas with your drink, and the portions of the food you order are very generous. The patatas bravas are perhaps the best in the city too!
