Entiendo que hay veces que cuando vas a un restaurante y el grupo de personas asciende a 30 pues es un poco complicado gestionar todo, pero lo de ayer fue un poco una chufla muy seria! Le he puesto dos estrellas, en vez de una porque me lo pasé muy bien y porque el sitio merece la pena probarlo una vez pero me pareció bastante timo.
Eramos 31 personas y era un cumpleaños sorpresa. La terraza no es que sea muy grande, pero supongo que si aceptas una reserva de 30 personas sabes cómo gestionarla. Pues no, todo empezó desde primer momento un poco regulero. Lo primero es que nos querían sentar en una zona en la que claramente no entrábamos 30, bueno ni 20 vamos, en cambio tenían una mesa enorme con 9 personas y les pedimos que por favor la intercambiasen porque seguramente ahí entrásemos mejor. Dicho y hecho, nos pusieron justo en la zona con tejado y se veía unas vistas de los tejados de Madrid estupendas.
El menú estaba cerrado por un precio de 22 euros que incluía unan cerveza, primero y segundo y copazo! Me parece bien siempre y cuando la comida te sacie porque sino me parece un poco caro, por lo menos metería un par de cervezas o postre. Se podía elegir entre gazpacho/​ensalada o hamburguesa/​pincho moruno. Yo escogí gazpacho y eso era más bien chupito de gazpacho, el plato estaba manchado, en dos cucharadas te lo habías comido. Lo puedo entender si luego piensas que te vas a comer una hamburguesa grande, pero vaya timo! Era como si hubiesen aplastado un poco una pequeña albóndiga y todo lo demás pan y un poco de cebolla caramelizada, ahh! y patatas de bolsa, que seguro las habían comprado en el Carrefour express que tienen en el edificio de al lado.
Lo único que se salvó fue el copazo! Yo creo que es un sitio para irte a tomar un copazo cuando hace bueno y picar alguna cosa, no para ir a comer como tal! Además el servicio un poco descontrolado, porque nos atendían 3 camareros que no tenían comunicación entre ellos, yo creo que les molestaba que fuésemos tantos. No había cubiertos para todos, las cervezas cada vez tenían tamaños diferentes porque yo creo que se quedaban sin vasos y eso sí, te las cobraban al mismo precio que es una cosa que me molesta mucho!
Para rematar la jugada, cuando ya estábamos con el tema de copas pues nos fuimos levantando y cambiando de sitio para hablar entre todos y una de las camareras se acercó porque pensaba que nos estábamos yendo sin pagar. «Oye perdona que debéis una cuenta de cervezas» algo que me parece un gesto un poco feo, así que le dijimos que no se preocupase que simplemente estábamos levantados y hablando que no nos íbamos a ir sin pagar.
En definitiva, creo que es un sitio curioso y sorprendente, muy de moda y que puedes sorprender a la gente si te la llevas. Pero vamos que yo no iría a comer ahí de nuevo.

I love The Hat! Cute décor and spacious rooms. I especially love the rooftop terrace that has views spanning the city. ALSO, the WiFi is out of this world!
P. S. It’s on Calle Imperial and not Paseo Imperial. I know this because I’m an idiot and found out the hard way with nearly 100 lbs of baggage D:

THE OUTSIDE: Very modern look, we thought we were walking into a 5 star hotel! Also, it is in the best location. Small convenience store across the street, plaza within a few hundred feet, and great food all around!
THE INSIDE: Very welcoming, we took our time checking in because we were wondering around the lobby taking pictures and admiring the ambience. Spectacular!
THE STAFF: This is the best part of our stay here, from the moment you walk in they greet you with a smile. They will accommodate any need you may have. From the front desk to the cleaning staff, the breakfast staff, the bar staff, everyone in here works very hard love what they do, and it shows. I couldn’t be more happy about our stay with them.
ROOFTOP TERRACE: INCREDIBLE! Great drinks, friendly and efficient staff, great views, well maintained. What more could you ask for?! The food was excellent and everything was very reasonably priced!
BREAKFAST: Another one of my favorite parts of the trip ;) Fresh bread from a local bakery, incredible homemade spread, endless coffee (mmmmmm) and the best staff around.
OVERALL: 5 stars. Hands down. This is our first stop on our 7 week vacation and we don’t want to leave. The hospitality has been incredible and honestly, I can’t think of 1 bad thing to say about our stay here.
Thanks again The Hat! We can’t wait to come back and stay with you guys again!

Une auberge vraiment superbe en tous point: design propreté practicite et ambiance ! J’ai passé quatre nuits dans une chambre de 4: confortable fonctionnel et avec la clim
Le roof top est très joli et il y a du monde le soir. Je conseille vraiment !!

I’ve been to numerous countries and stayed in my share of hostels, The Hat is by far the best one I’ve ever encountered.
Location: hop, skip and a jump away from Plaza Del Sol– very famous/​popular area with interesting history and awesome shopping. Also down the street from Plaza Mayor (too touristy for my taste but you were never far from food/​drinks)
staff: so incredibly friendly from start to finish: EUGENIO helped out my friend and I, and he could not have been any sweeter. He definitely helped make the experience a good one. Also they offered us a free walking tour (it’s 3ish hours but you can leave from the group whenever you want to) it’s a nice way to see some of the city sites and get some history behind it all
We got a private 4 bed/​female room with a bathroom– wow! So clean, you get half of a cubby/​cabinet and you can rent locks from the front desk (or bring your own) can also rent towels for 2.50 for your entire stay. Did I mention they have AIR CONDITIONING! Such a nice commodity to have especially in a hostel, was very grateful as Madrid is known to be the sunniest city in Europe ;)
They have a dining area downstairs (called the Cave) where they serve breakfast [nothing incredibly special BUT they do have soy milk and gluten free/​dairy free options which I thought really showed they go the extra mile]
The décor here is absolutely adorable– think Urban Outfitters-​y– they have a rooftop bar that serves beer, sangria, mojitos and a selection of tapas.
Each floor, going up/​down the stairs, has a cute saying or mantra, that I thought had a nice touch.
Will definitely be recommending to my friends and use for my future stays in Madrid!

Zum Hostel kann ich nichts sagen, außer dass der Empfangsbereich einen sehr guten und coolen Eindruck macht und dass es definitiv zu wenig Aufzüge gibt…
Aber die Dachterasse ist auf jeden Fall einen Abstecher wert (trotzdem sie zu keiner Seite wirklich offen ist — sondern nur nach oben). Sehr entspannt, schön vermischtes Klientel, «herausfordernd» gemixte Cocktails und leckere Weißweine für faires Geld. Und das keine 5 min. von der Plaza Mayor. Gerne wieder!

Puedes desayunar, tomarte un café o una copa por la tarde, puedes comer o cenar y todo ello en una terraza que mola todo, sobre todo por las vistas y porque las mesas, de varios tipos, no están apelotonadas. De repente me creí que estaba en alguna terraza de mi querido Conil y se me cayeron dos lagrimones ;P
Mi quinta estrella «no llega» porque creo que alguna sombrillita en determinadas zonas no vendría nada mal, de hecho hubo un momento que al llegar el solete a nuestra mesa, la cosa se hizo «insostenible» además de que las cerves se calentaron obviamente.
Salvando ese detalle, es un lugar genial para ir con tu grupo de amiguis o con el churri ese con el que quedas últimamente ;P Pero me planteo más un desayuno molón o una cena ya con el fresco cuando el sol se haya ido a la cama jajajajaja
Nos tomamos una ensaladilla rusa de olé, una tosta de salmón, empanada de carne, y un salmorejo del que no quedó resto alguno en el plato :)
Sorprendentemente era sábado, si no recuerdo mal, la edad… ya sabéis ;P, y no estaba lleno y eso que eran como las 14:30h pero yo creo que era porque Madrid entero andaba entre La Pradera de San Isidro y Las Vistillas porque es un sitio muy «petable» ;)

Pero ¿qué es? ¿un hostal?¿un hotel? ¿ un bar?. Es todo eso y mucho más!
Es una idea innovadora aquí en el puro centro de Madrid, es un hostel como ellos quieren definir al lado de la plaza Mayor, pasa desapercibido si uno no va directamente allí, esta rodeado de buen ambiente y buen rollo.
En la azotea tiene una terraza, bar increible con unas vistas de Madrid muy bonitas y recomendables, es perfecto para tomar unas copas con amigos y tener una conversación interesante. Lo único es la lentitud del servicio pero eh nada de estrés ahí arriba el tiempo pasa distinto que la agobiada ciudad de Madrid.
Es muyy recomendable, aire acogedor y tierno y para los más frioleros no os preocupes tienen estufas en la terraza! Venga animaros!

So I found out from the owner that this hostel is very new. What a great place too. This hostel is right in the center of almost everything. You can walk to malls, pubs, restaurants and so much more. The staff is incredibly friendly and gives amazing service. If you need a taxi or directions, no problem. There is a bar on the top floor which exits onto a balcony where you can sit and eat. They serve great tapas and food for a decent price starting at 8pm. The bar closes at midnight but many other night festivities begin.
There are many local bars for everyone. If you are gay or straight there’s something for you. The room I stayed in was with 4 beds and a private bathroom. Great choice amazing shower.
Now for the downsides:
They do not wash the quilts. I must have seen 3 people come and go in my room and they never changed the blanket. They just roll it up and put it in the closet. It makes me wonder how many people before slept for many days under the same blanket. Gross! Also on the side of the hostel I was on it was incredibly noisy. I was here during the weekend before Xmas so maybe it isn’t so loud other times of the year. They also play loud music within the hostel till like midnight which was also too loud. Other than that everything else was great!
I would stay here one more time on a slow time of the year to see if the noise is the same level. If it is then I won’t come again. But great place filled with young adults.

Una terraza desconocida en el centro de Madrid. Quizás las vistas no sean las mejores, pero desde luego, tiene un ambiente increible. Muy informal todo. Estupendo para tomarse unas cervecitas con buen tiempo.

The Hat is as good as it gets in terms of hostels! It is so so clean and has a very cool ambience. There is a nice bar downstairs in the lobby with couches to hang around at. The people at the front desk were very nice and spoke English if you are not familiar with Spanish. The sheets seemed clean and came with a down comforter. Each bed had its own personal shelf and outlet (Outlets are key in hostels!). There were also big drawers for each bed that you were able to put a lock on for your stuff. Clean sinks and showers. Could not ask for more! I paid 17 euro for a bed in a 8 person female dormitory. Bargain! Highly, highly recommend. Oh, and there is a shuttle to the airport for 9 euros! Way cheaper than a taxi would cost. Wifi worked great too!

Muy buena terraza en la quinta planta! Las quiches y las tostas están ricas y tienen muy buena pinta acorde a su sabor. De precio, correcto para lo que es.
