Tartan Roof

They had literally 8 of the 40 things available on the menu and no decency to explain this before hand. Extremely rude staff and after not having what we wanted (we tried to order 4 different things) we were fed up. You also can not share food here. We eventually just asked for wine and were told to move to a different area to drink even with 10 available tables. We were sent to the turf lounge area… lame. Great view but just come for that. Terrible place to eat or rather be told you can not. My girlfriends Spanish is more than decent and they still treated us like shit. Do not go here for food. Just go up check out the view and order a drink. Way over priced as well. I don’t ever write Unilocal reviews as I feel establishments should know how to treat guests but this was awful.
Ps there are 3 restaurants up here and they are indiscernible from one another.

Las mejores vistas que he tenido desde un bar-​restaurante sin duda. Fuimos un sabado, sobre las 19:30. Despues de una cola de 20 min para entrar, pagar 4 euros para subir (3 con carne joven), y subir en un ascensor a 40 grados, estabamos al fin en el famoso tartan roof. Como os podeis imaginar, lleno de gente, ya que era sabado por la tarde. Una heineken 4 € y las copas a precios razonables. No intento ser negativo, el sitio es espectacular. Ahora espero poder ir y coger sitio en las «tumbonas» algun dia. Entonces pondre 5*.

This place is wonderful to go to on a sunny day to get a nearly 360 degree view of the Madrid skyline, and perfect for a sunset. You should note that there is a 3 euro cover fee that should be paid in the lobby of the building. There is a variety of chairs and beds that are very welcoming and allow you to settle in and stay for a while. I was a little disappointed that the rooftop dining and bar services were closed the night that we were there because I felt like it jipped the experience a bit-​especially since I had to pay a cover to enter. Overall a great experience.

We tried to get up to the roof for dinner but the restaurant was closed for a private party. We ate at the restaurant on the corner instead and went up for a drink afterwards. You have to pay a couple euros to get up but it’s a great atmosphere and hang out spot. There are plenty of comfy cushions and couch seats that give it a great lounge vibe. Prices are average and view is spectacular.

Lo primero que impresiona del lugar son las magníficas vistas que nos ofrecen. Situado en la terraza del círculo de Bellas artes en pleno centro de Madrid nos permite disfrutar de un paisaje extraordinario.
En cuanto a los platos que podemos tomar sobretodo destacar el matiz de sabores frescos pero ligeros.
La carta se cambia continuamente ofreciendo gran variedad de primeros /​entrantes, segundos y postres.
En cuanto a precio bastante ajustado para ser alta cocina y creaciones innovadoras

Pretty package, yes indeed. But the staff was rude and the drinks were incredibly overpriced for what we got served, and for what you can get all around the Madrid. The menu looked great, but we got scoffed at by the staff for wanting to put our name down for a waiting list. The view is undeniably one of the best ones around but I honestly don’t think I’d come back anytime soon.

Cena con mesa reservada para cuatro. En este caso, al entrar en el Círculo tienes que ir a un pequeño mostrador a la izquierda y dar el nombre de la reserva. Te dan unas «entradas» para no tener que pagar los 3 euros que cuesta entrar en el edificio.
Después el ascensor; grande, para muchas personas y sofocante en verano. La ascensión se hace interminable; o bien es el ascensor más lento del mundo o estás subiendo a un alto rascacielos.
Al llegar a la azotea hay un ambientazo. Hemos reservado para el turno de 9 y hay mucha gente tomando copas al atardecer. La decoración es moderna y agradable con cierta atmósfera «ibicenca» en pleno centro de Madrid. La zona del restaurante se ha apuntado a la moda hipster y nos encontramos con las ya ubicuas sillas metálicas mal pintadas. La carta forrada con los colores del tartan escocés ofrece platos con nombres larguísimos que parecen las recetas que usa el cocinero. Frunzo ligeramente el ceño: tengo el prejuicio de que cuanto más largo es el nombre del plato, es más escaso y caro.
Pedimos seis u ocho cosas para compartir; un cucurucho de cangrejo con etcétera me sabe a algo muy conocido; ya sé, es puritito mcnugget. La pareja de la mesa de al lado ha pedido una botella de champagne y se nota cierto revuelo en el ambiente. El chico pone una rodilla en tierra, saca del bolsillo una cajita con un anillo y la chica, entre avergonzada y sonriente, no parece muy sorprendida. Parece que toca aplaudir. Después de cenar nos apetecía fumar con el café pero a pesar de estar al aire libre no había ceniceros en las mesas. Miro a toda la gente de la terraza ¡nadie fuma! no ya los que cenan sino tampoco los que toman copas en la zona de al lado. Pero se puede fumar, si pides un cenicero te lo traen.
La comida no me pareció gran cosa pero las vistas inéditas de Madrid desde la terraza merecen la pena. La nueva perspectiva desconcierta ¡qué cerca se ven las torres de Colón! ¿de verdad eso es el Palace? Parece bastante apartado de Los Jerónimos ¿aquella torre blanca tan alta es la iglesia de la calle Goya?
Creo que volveré, pero para tomar una copa después de cenado en otro lugar.

I’ve been up to Tartan Roof several times, this review in particular is for the restaurant. We made reservations online to go there for lunch (they don’t have a menú del día by the way) in June, which can be quite hot. Fortunately the weather was pretty great. Before our food came out though, they had those water spritzer things on that they have at a bunch of places to keep you cool during the summer heat. The spritzer things were definitely not working, they were leaking all over the place. There was a puddle forming on our table, I could see a man’s shirt getting totally wet, and a couple had to leave because they were very uncomfortable with getting wet as well. When they told the waiter this, she gave them a dirty look! She didn’t even bother apologizing. Then as soon as the couple left, they just turned them off. They obviously need to work on their service because I did not hear them apologizing to anybody and they didn’t apologize to us either for the puddle of water. The service during our lunch was okay, no smiles, as is pretty usual in Madrid, and I felt like they kept pushing you to order more drinks. This is the type of place where when you ask for a glass of water with your glass of wine, they say, sorry, we can only give you a bottle (aka we are stingy as hell and want to take every last cent out of you).
Now on to the food, we ordered the Margarita ceviche plate. The presentation was beautiful but the plate itself was tiny and had no salt. It just tasted like I was eating lemon juice, so I asked the waiter for some salt and it tasted much better after. Definitely not worth the 11 euros for such a tiny plate. We also tried the Tuna Tartar and the Carrillera plate. They were both much better than the starter. The tuna tartar was good, nothing out of this world, and not worth the 18 euros it costs either. On the other hand, the carrillera curry plate was really good and a great portion. It comes with a little bowl of rice.
To conclude, come here for the amazing views and to enjoy a glass of wine, which are not too expensive, we’ve paid 3 euros before, but avoid the restaurant. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong dishes, but the service is just not up to par for a restaurant that charges as much as it does and that purports to be as good as it is.

Si vous allez à Madrid, il vous faut absolument profiter d’un beau rooftop, et celui-​ci est vraiment canon !
À 3 € l’entrée pour accéder à cette belle terrasse, cela vaut le coup de venir en fin de journée profiter du soleil et de cette vue imprenable.
En plus vous pourrez commander d’excellentes boissons et tapas. Mon mojito était vraiment bien préparé et j’ai goûté des roulés au poulet, maïs, avocat, roquette et bacon, trop trop bons ! :p Bön par contre évidemment les prix grimpent vite vu le cadre et la qualité (10 € le mojito par exemple), mais je né regrette pas du tout, c’était à faire et j’y ai passé un très bon moment. :)

On a particularly sunny, mild March evening, we ventured over to the Tartan Roof, located on top of the Circulo de Bellas Artes, to kick back and watch the sun set over the city. After paying the 3 Euro entrance fee in the lobby, we hopped in the elevator for a quick ride to the top and wandered around the terraced rooftop, taking in the Madrid skyline. The panoramic views were lovely, no doubt, but the crowd skewed young, the service was non-​existent, and there wasn’t a seat to be had amidst the throngs of people. We snapped a few pics and giggled/​hummed along to Lionel Richie’s greatest hits as they played over the sound system, but ultimately decided to skip drinks and instead share a bottle of wine down the street at a less scenester-​y spot.

El sitio mola, y punto. Las vistas son jodidamente espectaculares. Las mejores de Madrid. Se ve casi toda la ciudad, y mira que es grande. ¿Qué problemas tiene? Para empezar que hay que pagar 3 € para subir y luego que el precio de las consumiciones no es lo que se dice barato. ¿Las vistas compensan? Pues depende del día. Cuando estuve hizo un solazo impresionante y mereció la pena. Lo triste es que ya hay garitos que empiezan a cobrar eso sin esas vistas. La comida tenía buena pinta, eso sí.

Es verdad. No existe ni restaurante ni bar con una localización más privilegiada ni más maravillosa que el Tartan Roof. Porque, para quien no lo sepa, la azotea del Círculo de Bellas Artes es, muy probablemente, la terraza más bonita desde todo Madrid, y una de las que ofrece las mejores vistas de la ciudad. Un sitio precioso y que te reconcilia con este Madrid que –qué demonios– de vez en cuando te resulta una ciudad en la que es imposible vivir (por suerte, a los que queremos Madrid de verdad de la buena, se nos pasa pronto).
Total, que como añadido a subir a la terraza, ahora alguien se ha dado cuenta de que conviene poner un barecillo y dar al respetable de comer y de beber. Así por lo menos ofreces un extra. Y así nació Tartan Roof, que en principio ha sido un restaurante non-​stop durante el verano, pero ahora en invierno es más un sitio donde tomar un snack rápido.
Y la cosa es que sería un sitio genial si el lugar no fuese tremendamente caro. Porque los tres euros que cuesta una copa de vino bastante normalito, la verdad, son indefendibles, por mucho que tengas unas vistas maravillosas. Y encima el aperitivo no pasa de unas tristes olivas… aunque solo en la primera ronda: se ve que en la segunda pierdes el derecho a tapa.

Creo que no existe ningún restaurante en Madrid en estos momentos con una localización más privilegiada que el Tartan Roof.
En plena terraza del Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, asomado no sólo a la Gran Vía sino a una panorámica de 360º de la capital.
Lo mejor de todo es que no son sólo vistas, sino una cocina con toques de todas las cocinas del mundo (asiática, italiana, peruana, mexicana…) que sorprende por su calidad y por su mezcla de sabores.
Tras haber tenido la suerte de probar una amplia selección de sus platos (en formato cucurucho, vaso y tapas) yo me quedo con las bolitas de foie y kikos, el dúo de tartates de salmón y atún y los muslitos de pollo picantes, que me trasladaron hasta el corazón de India.
A todo esto le añades unos cóteles tan ricos como el mojito con naranjas de la china y un ambiente muy cool repartido entre mesas altas, zonas de tumbona con césped artificial y una zona propia de restaurante con toques vintage y se te presenta una velada estupenda.

Increíble vistas maravillosas, la comida es deliciosa comida del mundo inspirada en los mercados de todo el mundo, todo un acierto, y la zona de copas muy bien, pero es q cenar o comer en la azotea es estupendo lo recomiendo al 100% por 100%

The terrace with the best panoramic views of Madrid. On two levels this terrace serves drinks and food. The burgers smell fantastic when you are laying back in one the beds sipping on a cocktail.
Music, fans with water misters and a spectacular view. Make a reservation and reserve a bed, and reservations to eat is a must. They are practically booked all summer long. They are not the fastest team but this is definitely worth a try.
