Avoid this ‘school’! While on vacation in Madrid I signed up for a Tandem dive with family I was travelling with and was assured that there would be English instructors for each of us and that it would be a fun, unforgettable experience. The experience started well with a fun and friendly English bloke picking us up and driving us to the site. Unfortunately once we paid for our dives everything started to go badly. We disclosed our weights in the waiver, and then were left to sit for several hours in the outdoor cafeteria. Each time we asked about our dive time we would be told ’15 minutes’. When it was finally our turn only one out of our four instructors could speak English and he rushed through a very basic explanation of what was going to happen. Even he was a bit difficult to understand, but we asked some clarifying questions and went to suit up. Here my sister was treated with complete disrespect by one of the instructors who in broken English told her she was too fat for the harness and he would not dive with her. When I tried to resolve the situation calmly he became ruder and ruder until my sister was in tears and I was screaming for the manager. Remember that we had disclosed our weights hours ago and nothing had been said until now. Also, my sister actually weight less than I do, and that there was nothing on the website about weight limits anyways. Finally the instructor that was more fluent said he would jump with her after the rest of us had jumped. At this point my sister was totally humiliated and agreed and told us to go without her. The dive itself was fairly uneventful though I didn’t enjoy it, as I was heartbroken for my sister. After our dive, unsurprisingly, they refused to take my sister up, saying it was unsafe, and refunded her money. Then we asked to leave, just wanting this experience to be over. They said that we needed to find our driver to get our ride home. We looked around for 20 minutes or so only to be told by someone else that he was not there and would be back in 15 minutes. 2 hours later in the hot Spain sun he finally came back and drove us home. Unsafe, unprofessional and unforgettable for all the wrong reasons, the Freefall University was a horrible experience.
