Excellent food near Opera, worthy of a little detour. The goat cheese, duck and avocado salad are very good but the morcilla it just amazing. It is a small place so I would make a reservation. The price quality is very good!

Madrid’s little piece of heaven and a fine example of how any business should function. Deliciously curated food delivered by convivial service in a quaint and relaxing atmosphere. The owners cook and serve the food to your table –a far cry from the fluorescent blasted plastic menus of Gran Via. Take some time and come here when it’s right. Don’t rush or come with a pack of people. Find that special date and just enjoy this little piece of heaven.

One thing that most Americans in Spain forget is that many of the popular Tapas bars partially close down after about 2:00PM on most days. El Molette is no exception. But luckily the bar stays open! We stopped in an hour before the kitchen opened for the evening. The barman was in clean up and prep mode. He was super friendly put together a killer sangria for the both of us. Along with the drinks came some small pieces of the best cheese we had during our visit to Spain. Before we left, the barman gave us several recommendations for where dinner was being served in the neighborhood. When we go back to Madrid we will be coming back for more sangria and hopefully to try the tapas!

Inmejorable!!!

I’m giving this place one star. I didn’t even get a chance to eat here. Unilocal said they were open at 7 pm, so we went. WRONG! We got there and the doors were closed, so we looked their website. Their website said they open at 8 pm, so we waited an hour at a bar a couple blocks away. WRONGAGAIN! When we arrived at 8pm, an employee told us that they don’t open until 9pm. Perhaps the food is great, but we will never know because they can’t get their crap straight.

My wife and I came here for lunch after going to the Palacio Real and the Temple of Debod. It’s about two blocks away and convenient to the area. We were a little thrown off by the portions since their«tapas» are more platter sized. So, be careful that you don’t order too much. The secreto iberico was especially good, thin slices of pork loins fried in butter and garlic with garlic covered french fries. The goat cheese pockets were also quite good. I was less enamored with the artichokes(overcooked and mushy) and the gorgonzola croquettes though. So, kind of a mixed review for me.

El Mollete is a great restaurant serving local cuisine in walking distance of the Royal Palace(Palacio Real) and the Opera house(Teatro Real). My favorite dish was this baked goat cheese with honey. You must make reservations if you go since the restaurant is tiny. The owner(I assumed he was the owner) was really great. Service was impeccable.

I’ve only been here once but the experience was enjoyable enough for me to feel confident giving this quaint spot 4 stars. I live close by so I often pass the place walking and it’s always got a good amount of customers inside both at lunchtime and in the late evenings(8pm-). I drool every time I read the small chalkboard outside which lists that days offerings. Today I saw that they have little bundles of merluza(hake) on the menu. Now, what’s in those little bundles along with the fish? I wanna know. And that’s what drew me in to begin with. I had to know what trigueros y alcachofas con foie(asparagus and artichokes with liver fat) tasted like. And what risotto con boletus(fungi) tastes like. And we ordered something else from the small but creative menu that also made us go–«oh, um, oh, mmmm». The food is prepared carefully, artfully and with fine, fresh ingredients. That’s clear. And the results are pure deliciousness. Now, it’s true that there are only a few small tables and not many places to stand and eat(hence the 4 not 5 stars). This is simply a nice, special little place to enjoy some excellent, classic yet creative tapas and a nice glass of wine. Chat a while with a friend, a date, a small group and then you move along if you desire more space. It’s right around the corner from the newly remodeled Opera house plaza and the Palacio Real and the adjoining gardens. Excellent food, wine and a beautiful stroll: a great way to spend an evening.
