Aveda

I am a regular. I really like the treatment, the location and the overall service. The haircuts are great, and even though my Spanish is not perfect, the stylists are really patient. The one star missing to the overall 5 is the high price of 35 € for a man’s cut.

Aveda es una firma de productos para el cuidado del cabello y tratamiento de la piel, respetuosos con el medioambiente. No tanto con la cartera, son bastante caros.
En este local de Ortega y Gasset ofrecen servicios para de peluquería y corporales exclusivamente con sus productos.
Es un sitio «pijillo», bien atendido, bien decorado, agradable, luminoso, diáfano… pero para mi gusto le sobran ínfulas. Mucho lirili y poco lerele.
Me hice aquí en diferentes ocasiones 2 tratamientos corporales y un servicio de peluquería. Los tratamientos corporales fueron estupendos, muy agradables, y por eso repetí a pesar de que era muy caro. Pero el servicio de peluquería no estuvo ni remotamente a la altura, y después de la experiencia decidí no volver. Si necesitas una buena carga de electricidad estática en tu pelo, esta es tu peluquería. Además me dieron un baño de color donde no se apreciaba ni cambio en el tono, ni brillo ni nada.
Le doy las 3 estrellas por los tratamientos corporales, que merecen la pena aunque sean tan caros.

I wanted to love this salon. I wanted it to be my American touchstone in Madrid: a neighborhood place where I could come for familiar products (and smells!) while simultaneously receiving fashionable madrileña cuts. And it very nearly was this — except for the whole great-​haircut part.
The large space is sleek and modern, constructed with frosted glass paneling, stone walls, and wooden floors. The effect is zen and relaxing. The street level lobby/​shop is stocked with beauty and hair care products as well as several comfortable chairs for waiting. The downstairs salon is quiet and simply laid-​out: a central row of mirrors runs down a long rectangular room with a neat color-​station built into the wall.
As with any Aveda salon, the experience is aromatherapeutic. To start, my stylist offered me a choice of two essential oils for a (very wonderful) head and neck massage. He then led me to a dark room sparsely decorated with a line of sinks and shampoos (more wonderful massage). At this point I was inventing reasons why I should be returning on a regular basis.
Though the salon did accommodate my request for an English-​language stylist, my long layered cut was less than I’d hoped. In fact, I can only describe the effect as looking as though I need a haircut. It is not well-​blended — a fact especially apparent in my overly-​short, bluntly-​cut bangs.
If I return, I will likely request another stylist despite the language barrier.

Los productos de Aveda son muy reconocidos y respetados y pensé ir al salón en Madrid para tener una experiencia Aveda. Si estuvo muy bien, pero es ridículamente caro. Hay otras opciones en Madrid que también usan productos de Aveda, pero cobran menos y también dan buen servicio.
Aveda products are well known and respected and I thought it’d be nice to go to the salon here in Madrid to have the Aveda experience. It was great, but ridiculously expensive. There are other options in Madrid that also use Aveda products, but they charge less and still give great service.
