La Cueva de 1900

We came for lunch on a weekday, and the restaurant was packed with locals. There was a business lunch party of 12 in addition to the usual lunch rush and no tables were available. In Spanglish, we communicated with the bartender who invited us to sit at the bar and have a drink while waiting for a table. We order Tinto Vino and munched happily on the free tapa provided with the wine. After a leisurely 20 minutes, a table opened up. The bartender kept track of the queue waiting for a table. With a series of glances and gestures with the rest of the wait staff, he made it clear that the next table was reserved for us. Upon sitting, we ordered the «Paella casera para compartir» which was an outstanding value for 25 euros: a real meal deal. The waiter cautioned us that the paella was made to order and would take about 20 minutes. No problem, we said, as we consumed more wine, more tapas, and salad included with the meal deal. The paella was simply and beautifully presented and very tasty. A slight downside was that some of the fish was replaced with chicken. This didn’t lessen our appreciation. We spent a leisurely 1 ½ hours enjoying all of it!

No me gustó nada… sirven las chacinas en un papel y las chacinas estaban frias en vez de al natural que es como mejor saben… muchos jamones colgando y mucha imagen pero no es convincente. El servicio de camareros nefasto.

Ideal para tomarse unas Cañas acompañadas de cualquier tapilla de embutidos que te ofrezcan, destacar que si te ha gustado alguna cosa la puedes pedir para llevar como si de una charcutería se tratase.

He vuelto a Granada después de 10 años, así que no recuerdo los sitios donde había almorzado. Pasando por una de las zonas más turísticas di con La Cueva (el que está junto a la estatua de los Reyes Católicos). No tenía ni idea del tipo de comida que ponen, pero como vi tantos jamones colgando y bastante gente dentro, me lancé al interior.
Puedes comer de dos maneras, y yo cumplí ambas. Por un lado, el tradicional «cerveza y tapa». Por otro, las raciones. De las tapas extra que suelen poner con la bebida me encantó el hecho de que trajeran las chacinas sobre papel de estraza. Nos tocó york y chorizo picante, ambos muy ricos. De raciones pedimos unos huevos rotos con jamón (que no fue ni de Trevélez pero en fin…) y un bocadillo de morcilla que estaba riquísimo.
No nos cabía más comida y fue bastante barato, bien atendido y rápido a pesar de la cantidad de gente que había. No es un sitio al que pienses como prioridad pero sabiendo que los platos que sirven seguro gustan a todos, es un buen lugar para usar de comodín.

We came here for simple dishes and quality ingredients with seating tables! After standing to eat, it was nice to «sit» down.
We got a salad, green bean with eggs dish and complimentary olives. Yum!
(I believe this might be a chain as I saw another Cueva 1900 somewhere else in Granada)
