Gorgeousity and über friendliness all rolled up with swans in a fountain. 19th century palace with marble ceilings(what?) and spacious palatial suites make this the most exciting accommodations coupled with the central locations waking distance to shopping, yoga, cathedral, Alhambra… Everything you seek you’ll find it or will be helped to by the friendly staff. Tickets, taxis, tips on what to do, they are so personalized in their approach. Free wifi, 24 € parking, modest price for the luxury, spa, Vichy water in the mini bar, best dining in Granada right on the same grounds… I love this place.

If you are unfamiliar with Granada but you are intent on finding an upbeat, well managed, oasis strategically located in Granada, I suggest you consider the Hotel Hospes Palacio de los Patos. The staff is gracious, attentive, professional, and proud to be of service. I had a fantastic experience with Hospes Palacio de Los Patos from the moment that we pressed the airphone button to open the gate to the hotel, to the moment my DHL package arrived in New York.(I’ll have to explain.) The hotel itself is architecturally very interesting. It is a small palace built in the 1800s, which has been renovated in such a way to retain some of its classical charm, while the hotel rooms have a very modern, minimalist feel. As soon as we arrived the hotel manager warmly greeted us, provided us with important information about the hotel and asked us, «Have you seen the Alhambra?» Because we had not, he quickly got on the phone with a travel bureau to ensure that each of us had tickets for the following day’s entrance.(Tickets to the Alhambra are strictly rationed and sell out months in advance, so to find tickets independently can be quite tricky.) After settling into our room, he came to check-in on us to see what we thought of the accommodations. He also showed us a nice outdoor porch area(where you will burn to a crisp in the August Andalucian sun) and helped us connect to the internet. Each day, this particular manager was extremely friendly and started conversations about our plans and travels for the day. And because I do not take ginkgo biloba(although I probably should), I left a pair of sandals behind when rushing to catch Renfe at an ungodly hour(6am). I called the hotel once I realized this and the manager said he would dispatch staff to look for the shoes. Sure enough, they were found, he called me back, and he overnighted them to New York.
