Getafe is a city just outside of Madrid and they have their very own La Liga soccer team, making that four teams in/around Madrid including Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano. Getafe, also known as El Gata, play their football at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. Its capacity is 17,700 making it a somewhat small stadium for the area. Small it may be but there is a very good atmosphere, as I found out last week when I saw them play against Real Zaragoza. For a small team however, they do charge a bit of money to get in. I got the cheapest ticket and that set me back 40 Euros — which is about $ 52. If you want to get something to eat before kick-off, you have to do that before you go into the stadium because there really isn’t anything that I saw to buy inside. There are some bars/cafes wherre you can get some decent food for a good price. Of course you can get a beer as well. What I found interesting however was that at the café/bar where I was there were lots of fans drinking giant plastic cups of whiskey with Coke and other alcoholic drinks. I should have had one! They also sold sandwiches. I got a ham with melted cheese which I ate before the game but then realized that I could have brought it into the stadium. Live and learn! You can reach the stadium by taking the Metro from Madrid.
