The fiod was very very good, had the mozarella and tomato for starters and lasagne for main. Good and friendly service.

We were visiting from the US and looking for dinner near Tivoli Gardens. We love Italian food, so we decided to give this place a try. The staff was friendly. The restaurant has a cozy, intimate atmosphere. But, the tables are rather close together, so it does feel a little crammed. We ordered a pizza, beef risotto, and water. The water cost 25 Kroner per person, which we found to be pretty steep. The pizza had maybe one piece of sausage per slice, and was paper thin. Also, both the pizza and risotto tasted so heavily of salt that any other flavors were overwhelmed. We do not plan on coming back.

We chose this place after reading the few but positive reviews on Unilocal.I was craving for pasta! I can definitely recommend this restaurant. We had ravioli and lasagna. Lasagna was good, so was ravioli, but maybe these ravioli do better as a starter and not as the main course. We sat on the sidewalk. Pretty nice, traffic wasn’t disturbing. They accept AMEX.

I am honestly not entirely sure how it is that The Italian has only been reviewed once before me. Perhaps it’s the location? Perhaps it’s that no one knows how fantastic it is? Perhaps the whole of Copenhagen is on a low-carb diet(because I am, but that still didn’t stop me, actually). Surely if people went merely because of its affiliation with Cofoco it would be swarming with people. Tucked behind Rådhuspladsen, The Italian seems from the outside like a place that might be frequented by tourists, not locals. After all, this area is mostly tourists, hotels, and fast food chains(and an inexplicably high amount of dry cleaning and tie shops). But nevermind those details, we come to restaurants for food, not necessarily location. Despite being low-carb, and generally grain-free, I allowed myself to be lured in by the smells of fresh pasta and garlic-y bread. I may have suffered for it later, but it was worth it. The lasagna was unbelievable. The ravioli was decadent. The tiramisu was perfect. Our waitress was kind and accommodating, giving us just the right amount of privacy to enjoy our meal in peace without feeling totally neglected(a beautiful thing when compared to other places in the city). The tap water is still not free, which I have a lot of strong opinions about, but I obviously can’t judge a restaurant based on a common practice of an entire country. :| Definitely give The Italian a try — great for both couples and large groups, and also with space for private functions.
