KBHFF or Københavns Fødevarefællesskab(I’ll never ever be able to pronounce that correctly) it’s an amazing reality that’s been existing in Copenhagen area for quite a while, but only occurred to me by mistake last week. I was googling«seasonal vegetables» in order to know what to buy at the market when KBHFF site came up amongst the list of the results. Opening that page pretty much changed my afternoon(and my fridge look). KBHFF is basically a food co-operative ran by members. It offers organic and biodynamic products in season. This means that all the vegetables and fruits are grown up locally, without pesticides nor greenhouses. Can you imagine? You have the chance to only eat seasonal products and this is what everybody should do: avoid imported products(I really reckon it’s hard, it’d be nice to lower the purchase of these goods) and eat what grows seasonally. As a member driven co-operative, there’s lots of work to do without state funds, so this is how it works(I’ll try to keep it simple as my english is not that good): — in order to become a member you pay 100 kr(50 una tantum and 50 once per year) — all payments must be done on location on Wednesdays!, — you also pay a refundable deposit of 100 kr for the physical bag, — once you’ve become a member you can order your bag week by week. This means you do it online(they’ll give you username and password once you’ve singed up your membership). For example, it’s thursday and I log into the site, order my bag, and I’ll go and pick it up next Wednesday, September the 10th(between opening shop hours — see on the site), and pay 100 kr. The weekly bag typically contains 6 – 8 kg of locally produced fruit and vegetables. You can pre-order for several weeks at once, or just for the following week. You are under no obligation to buy a set amount of bags per month, and if you don’t want more vegetables for the following weeks you simply just don’t pre-order more. Was it clear? Kind of? Sorry. As I was saying, as a member driven co-operative you’ll also commit to work a 3 hours shift per month in one of the shops, you can join one of the working groups to work with the development of KBHFF, etcetera. This is a truly nice initiative and it’s going to change the way you eat vegetables and fruit forever(and, more important of all, it’s like 200m from my home. Hell yeah!). This is why I love Denmark, this is what makes this town so beautiful. Great work! P. s. Some infos might be not completely complete. In this case I apologise and direct you to their site , it’s way more explicative.
