Butchers is a good place to go if you need to dance and don’t want to risk trying a new club, or need somewhere close by. I went here my first week in Copenhagen and many of my fellow-club-goers were Danes, which made it feel like an «authentic» Copenhagen experience(though many of those attending were 20 or under). I also went here with a friend when the lines at a club close to Butchers were too long. Butchers is a safe bet, as it is always hopping and has a great energy about it. The second time I went it was 21+, and I had a lot more fun that time! Butchers has a cover charge, but it is not exorbitant. When I came here the first time we got a token for our cover charge which could be exchanged for a free coat check or for one drink(a pretty good deal considering the cover charge is only $ 5). The second time it was more crowded, and I believe I had to pay the cover charge and to check my coat, but it didn’t break the bank. The drinks are priced like your standard Copenhagen club: expensive, but not too expensive to make you leave your card at home. The atmosphere is hip, and the music is pop-y. I especially enjoyed the Justin Timberlake music they played the first time I went. They sometimes repeat songs if you’re there for over an hour which is somewhat annoying, but at least you have a second chance to perfect that choreography! Don’t come here if you want to discover an obscure artist, but do come here if you want to hear dance music all night long. The walls are painted black and there are some awesome portraits of a rooster, cow, and pig drawn with what looks like white chalk. There is a platform for those adventurous enough to dance on a stage, and there are two bars, one in the front, one in the back.

Definitely a good place to start your night from! They have an offer for two for one until 24:00. If you are older than 23 when the time hits 24 – 01 o clock it is time to move on as the place gets filled with people from their early twenties. The first part of the club is more lit with light and has several tables to sit to. There is a large bar also and my favorite spot is to sit by the windows. The second part is where the dance floor and dj is. It is a bit darker and had also few tables on the sides. The drinks are quite good. It’s not a cocktail bar, but still the cocktails are ok good. There is no entrance, but you pay for the jacket. They start building a line after 23:30 even though it is quite empty. Probably to attract people? I don’t know. The music is different between the different hours. In the beginning it is a bit more chill and after 23:00 it is more to the latest hits. Good for dancing, good for clubbing. Not the best for 25+ crowd.

Hosted an after party here on Saturday night, and overall, the event went reasonably well. The bar manager, Maria, was more than accommodating, and we managed to get some special deals for our group, along with a free bottle of whiskey to have at our reserved tables. This definitely helped us start out our night right. Unfortunately, like most places serving alcohol in central Copenhagen on a Friday or Saturday night, come 1am, you can no longer move or hear yourself talk. Butchers suffers the same plight as all other bars with a DJ and a dance floor, and when the bouncers let in about 500 extra people to handle the influx of population loitering on Vestergade, and after getting pushed and smashed a few dozen times, both on and off the dance floor, I gave up and went somewhere else with more space. The venue itself is fantastic, beautiful, classy, the drinks are pretty standard, and the music is great. If I didn’t have a full time day job, I’d seriously consider coming here on a typically quieter night to check things out and bust a move. Pro-tip: there is an obligatory coat check for 30kr. If you lose your ticket, they WILLNOT give you your coat back. Even if the keys are in the pocket and you can identify the contents. Consider yourselves warned.

I have been to Butchers many times and they always manage to provide great music and fun events. The only downside is that there are sometimes long lines and many people on busy days like Friday and Saturday(I would recommend going there on a Thursday night for a great night out). Also the cocktails are expensive.
