How on earth could you not be in love with Bo-Bi Bar? It is easy to be attracted by this kind of dive bar if you’re a student or just a visitor. Is there someone who has been here and not felt for Bo-Bi? The place itself is pretty small, it doesn’t have more than twenty seats, and we all know this can be a doubled edged weapon. It can turn into a cosy, intimate place in the week days, and change its face becoming a living, crowded nightmare of people. But this is part of its charm, and Bo-Bi can afford to risk. The interiors somehow recall those Art Deco french bars in the twenties, with some Renoir paintings on the wall, while Josephine Baker danced on the stage and Pathé was producing its first feature films and the jazz was at its peak. Oh, how I wish I lived back in those years!(I now feel a bit like Gil Pender in «Midnight in Paris», always craving to go back in time, to when they were«better»). Unluckily you won’t find nor Picasso neither Modigliani hanging out here, but with a pinch of imagination, you’ll be able to feel like they were there, sitting at the other side of the counter, smoking a cigarette, playing backgammon and idolizing Françoise Gilot, next to them. Therefore is the atmosphere what counts. And at Bo-Bi the atmosphere is golden. Beer is cheap, wine as well, although I never tried their american bar. The lady that’s always at the counter is nice and friendly. You could even try and sit and talk to her, I did it once and I enjoyed it. :-) The only flaw that I find in Bo-Bi is the smoking issue. Many bars in CPH are smoking-allowed, but most of them, if not all, have a good ventilation system. Bo-Bi doesn’t and it’s a bit too much smokey when many people are smoking. You might too drunk to notice while there, but it’ll come afterwards at home, or the following morning, when you’ll realise your clothes smell like they’ve been thrown in a smokestack. Anyway, this is not enough not to love Bo-Bi Bar. I’ll keep on getting back here as soon as my French nostalgia will be haunting me.

Reminds me of when I used to hit all the dive bars in New York. Had a couple of brews with some good people that I just met. Not sure if my rating is for the bar or the company I kept. It’s divey hygge for sure.

A divey bar with a large collection of beers. Smoking is aloud inside and I have heard from someone that it is the oldest bar in the city. Don’t know if that’s true but it certainly looks so! The interior is all wooden and heavy. Dark wood all over and small tables. Light does not really flow into this place so it’s quite dark and cosy. The crowd is very varying, typical characteristic of a divey bar I would say. It’s nicely located in the heart of the centre, very close to illum. The beer selection is great as they have lots of bottled beers you might not find elsewhere. There is almost always some room to have a seat. So it’s a good spot to meet someone and have the first beer. Quite cheap as well.

This place is awesome. Don’t get me wrong, it is a dive bar — but it is a classic Copenhagen establishment. It is a great place to meet up with someone before you go out on the town, or after work. It is dingy and dark, but entirely authentic. I am pretty sure they have not changed the interior in 80 years or so. So if you want to take a step back in time to 1930 Copenhagen, and have a beer, this place is a must. And the beer is cheap.
