The food was excelent but one of the waitress was very rude and very unfriendly. Shes very friendly towards the danish customer but when she’s serving us(asian) her face is very sour and when we im talking to my friends, she suddently asking very rude and with angry face to us and asking if we are talking to her, like if shes thinking we are talking about her even though we are not. What kind of behavior is that towards a customer???

In the mood for some Far Eastern food after our first day at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration had come to a close, we waltzed into Ban Gaw and were pleased to find that they could seat us without a reservation. The restaurant was busy and there were some tempting aromas wafting about the place, so we knew we were on to a winner. One of our group had recently been to Thailand so he was the one to impress — and it seems he was. Everything we ordered was tasty and very good quality(I was recommended the Massuman curry as I wanted something creamy and it was a hearty portion and gorgeous!). We shared a huge bowl of jasmine rice between us which helped soak up the sauces beautifully. Together with efficient service, it made for a great dinner spot and we’d come back here again. In fact, some fellow Brits we spoke to at the CBC festival said they came here every year and I can understand why.

After the closure of my favourite Thai place, Kalasin, I’ve been looking for a new restaurant to satisfy my cravings and this is IT. We ordered one dish each and shared everything as you should. My Thai friend also recommended that we get something from the special menu(which is written in Thai), and our waitress was happy to choose for us after asking if we had any food aversions/allergies. What she ended up serving us is what I assume was«waterfall grilled beef salad» or neua yang nam tok. The beef was cooked perfectly! The dish was properly spicy and was not missing the roasted rice powder. I also ordered my favourite dish of seafood salad, and it did not disappoint. This was also pretty spicy, though not as much as Kalasin’s, and was generously filled with squid and plump shrimp. On the non-spicy spectrum, the red curry with duck was delicious and one of my friends also got some sweet, thinly-sliced stewed beef. The food came out quickly and so did our second serving of rice. We split the bill four ways and it came out to 178 dkk per person with drinks included, which is reasonable considering the delicious food filling our distended bellies. I hope I can eventually try everything from the part of the menu written only in Thai, and I’ve heard the laab is very good. Whether you are into sweet curries or something that will set your mouth on fire, you will get authentic and affordable Thai food at Bangaw.

If you want Pad Thai, go to those Thai restaurants in the mall. If you want really good and SPICY Thai food? Go to Ban-gaw. Thank goodness for Ban-gaw. Just when my husband and I almost lost faith in local places that could satisfy our cravings for Thai food, we found Ban-gaw. There’s nothing like eating a dish so deliciously spicy that even when you’re downing water after water to extinguish the flames in your mouth, you still go back for seconds… and thirds… If you like spicy pork, you MUST get #56: Deep fried pork with Thai broccoli and chili. It is so delicious but be sure to order a Thai Iced Tea to go with it to help deal with the spiciness.

The papaya salad is a must, though it cannot be found on the Danish menu. But be prepared, because the papaya salad is VERY hot!

Ben Gaw’s food is… ok. I tried one curry dish(can’t recall which one now, but it included bamboo shoots) which was good and flavourful. However, they really missed the mark on their Pad Thai. Pad Thai is one of those ubiquitous dishes that’s served everywhere, uses simple ingredients, and has such basic and recognizable flavours that any respectable Thai restaurant should get it right. When I think of Pad Thai, I think it’s supposed to be a little sweet, a little spicy, with fragrant coriander, fishsauce and lime juice, and topped with crunchy peanuts. Ben Gaw’s was missing all of those flavours and seemed to have been seasoned with primarily soy sauce. Yes, it did come with peanuts and a wedge of lime, but both those ingredients were bland. I was recommended this place from a friend who really likes it. I cannot recommend the Pad Thai, but some of the other curries are quite ok.
