We booked Zenden’s porridge buffet dinner for 9pm — because we wanted to watch the NDP telecast first. NDP’s just very entertaining. We arrived 40 minutes early and clearly it was no issue — there were no other customers at the restaurant and this continued throughout the night. They had a projector screen showing Sasuke on Channel 5, kept it away, and replaced it with a live singer. Sigh. But luckily it became fun later on when we challenged the singer to diva songs — she handled My Heart Will Go On very well. The food was decent. I’m true Teochew when it comes to porridge dishes. Just give me anything extremely savoury like ikan bilis, salted egg, or duck’s meat and I’ll tuck into plain porridge. They had it all, including meat floss, bak kut teh and preserved vegetables. The porridge also came in sweet potato and brown rice options. It was a NOMS meal, I summed it up with delicious bread pudding at the end. Only gripe was the hard-boiled eggs were too rubbery. Price was good, about $ 20 per pax after taxes.
