Once or if we’re lucky, twice every year we get to fly to the Food Paradise that is Singapore. This is one of our«go to» food centres when we’re in Singapore because of it’s proximity to our lodging with family. It was my Uncle’s shout but not by my own choice. There’s a bit of an unspoken tradition within our family in Singapore, in that everyone will always try to shout the other person’s meal. With Dad being one of 14 children to his parents, there is certainly a rush to pay the bill, when it gets near the end of the meal and at times, there can be a bit of jostling between cousins, uncles and aunties to take care of the payment. Sometime I even go to the extreme where I’ll pretend to go to the restrooms and sneakily pay before anyone else has had the chance. As it turns out my uncle insisted that he pay and we got great value for money with the Fish Head Curry, Butter Chicken, Rogan Josh, Garlic Naan and a Mutton Biryani. I really enjoyed it all with a special mention to the Rogan Josh and Garlic Naan which was crispy but doughy and garlicky. Fish Head Curry can tend to be sour, which my girlfriend doesn’t like but I quite like it and it’s better served with rice but I prefer naan.

Taken here by local colleges and good thing we got in early as lunchtime rush meant soon no tables were available inside, so if they take lunch time bookings, I would highly recommend getting a reservation. I ended up getting one of the most expensive meals on the menu — the Pomfret meal. This sucker was super spicy and so I experienced crying eyes and a runny nose due to the chillies, and the server took pity on me and switched out my curry(I had unknowingly chosen the more spicy options). My pomfret was a little bit overcooked and dry + too oily, which sorta sucked, cause its a small fish to begin with. But the food was plentiful and everything else was really tasty and heart-warming. I also got Tea Tarik, which was awesome and also helped cool down my spice levels. I also tried two other meals that my colleagues got — the Dal Tadka was nice, but didn’t like the Chicken tikka masala that much. This is a South Indian place, so for my money, I would stick to that regional specialties.
