So far. So so. I had the local fare which was not spicy enough and too sweet. Maybe the western food a better bet?

We were invited to jin some friends for dinner last night and frankly didn’t realise what a trek it would be — wow, it seemed like almost the end of Earth lol. With that said, it was worth and trip and we enjoyed the atmosphere and food and thought the service was great. We are two families with three littles so opted to sit outside which was very pleasant — there are fans that kept the area cool and we didn’t worry about noise. Several tables around us even had their dogs with them(at around 730PM on a Saturday night. Impressed me as a family-friendly place. The food was good good although not outstanding. I had a pretty good spinach salad(pretty hard to ruin) but my Wife thought the fish and chips were a bit greasy. Nothing on the menu is cheap but not overpriced either. It $ 14 for a good sized salad and $ 26 for a good sized plate of fish and chips. The beers were reasonable too. A Friend had the rib eye rosti which he raved about so maybe the beef dishes are the way to go(and I am basing that too on some of the other reviews which I sadly didn’t read before going as it was a last minute call). All in all, I would go back for the ambience, the location and service(which I thought was quite good) and give the food another shot. If you go with a family, walk around the side and there are two nice family swings which the kids enjoyed while waiting for the food

Second visit to this place. Food is hit and miss. The beef pizza took forever to come(suspect they forgot) and my friend didn’t finish it. Another friend got the fish and chips and proclaimed it nothing special. The xo prawn pasta looked delicious but tasted average as well. The burger was huge and came with thick steak fries. Was pretty good according to my husband. I got the roast chicken. Half a chicken with a delicious sweet glaze. Thankfully the chicken was really well done. Moist and juicy. The coleslaw was average but the vegetables were a welcome refreshing respite. Portion is big for a small eater. I managed to wallop the entire platter but definitely overate. Appetizers were truffle fries(disappointing without a whiff of truffle) and portabello mushroom fries(good!) and nachos(average).

Restaurant is located a bit«remote». Entering the nice garden with lots of parking space in front, you will be welcome from one of the friendly care taking waiters. A very inspiring architecture and decoration with old motor-scooter and other stuff is inviting you for a relaxed dinner(crazy; they are selling these oldschool Casio LCD watches — I like!) We have had a good selection of starters all over the menue; pizza and calamari dipper were a bit too much oily for my perspective. The home made cheese burger was one of the biggest(and most pricy — 29 S$) I have aten; home made patty was very thick and a lil bit too chewy, missing a good sauce… The Angus Steak was perfect, the big fried potatoe-/onion croquette again oily. Ribs were gorgous. I liked the service and good selection of drinks they have, but the food was not fully meeting my expectations…

I’m quite undecided about this place. It’s in a remote, desolate surrounding, which I find charming. But ‘find’ is the key word here, since its in such an ulu location you’d literally have to find the place. Inside is an eclectic mix of salvaged furniture, again adding to the old world charm. But of course everyone comes for the food, which is good, if not well-cooked ordinary fare. But they pride themselves on the freshness of the food, and you can tell the freshness from the taste. The prices, however? Their cheese burger was big and sumptuous, but $ 29(if you add a fried egg), just a little too steep on my pocket. One redeeming grace, though, must be the coffee, best in the Changi Village end of the world, in my view. Yes I’ll be back, but next time, only if I know the other party is paying!

Came to have a visit because of my friend’s recommendation and found it myself that everything was an exaggeration. There is nothing unique in this place(architecture perse) it certainly looks like a renovated junkshop cum garage house dining concept to me. A lot of the so called ala antique homesque concept are far better than this place. The staffs here are not happy providing service like yes majority of them acted as if you owe them something! Nothing was special on this place however they serve a very nice poached eggs and truffles fries to be very fair with them. Other than that I wouldn’t recommend this place for anything special. The place was even far to find. You really have to settle with the driver’s GPS! :-)

The food was so-so. The prices are quite high considering this place is in the middle of nowhere. Then again, if you come here you probably drove and so can afford it. The wagyu beef pizza was not bad: the beef was quite tender(even if less than what I expect from wagyu — then again since even Mos Burger can give you Wagyu Beef that name doesn’t mean anything nowadays). The Five Cheese pizza was okay. The pizza in general has a really thin crust — your mileage may vary. The portobello fries were interesting, even if the name was misleading — they’re cut like wedges, and rather more moist than fries should be. Not quite enough truffle mayo was served with them. The Nasi Lemak was bad. The chicken was flavorless and greasy with a weird stringy batter. The rice lacked taste and the sambal was flat. The prawns were okay but seemingly not seasoned. The sole saving grace was the ikan bilis which was quite crispy and very large. Come here for the ambiance(won’t rave about it as I don’t go for that kinda stuff), or if you want to bring dogs: it’s very dog-friendly — but not for the food(or price).

The setting is very unique(with cars, scooters, and antiques covering all the walls and roof), but the service and food weren’t very impressive. We had a party of 7, and all our plates came out at different times. The first person to receive their food was nearly finished before my curry dish arrived.

Finally came here after wanting to for the past 2 years. I’ve been dissuaded by its location — it’s in the FAR east and I don’t have a car! But with those 2 problems solved… :) The restaurant was easy enough to find(with GPS) and parking was not too difficult. We were here on a saturday afternoon with no reservation. The place is pretty big with indoor and outdoor seating options. Outdoors it’s really tranquil(you’re overlooking a jungle, it’s easy to feel like you’re not in Singapore anymore) but given the crazy heat + humidity + mosquitoes at this time of the year, indoor it was! There was a couple in front of us in the queue but we managed to get our seats in about 10 minutes. We had a pretty big table(could probably seat 5) to ourselves on high chairs(there’s the normal chairs and sofa chair options available too). Menu was interesting, not exactly cheap(about $ 20−30s for a main) but reasonable. We had the much raved-about wagyu beef and mushrooms pizza split with a 4 cheese pizza and a burger. The 4 cheese pizza was good! Didn’t look like much but the cheese was tangy and flavourful. They’re thin crust pizzas though — something to take note of before you order. The pizza was smaller than expected but surprisingly filling. I had a strawberry milkshake($ 6), which was one of the better milkshakes I had. It was really rich and creamy(quote bf: «like meiji’s version but creamier») and I loved every drop of it! Loved the interior décor, I didn’t walk around closely but there were(vintage-y) details everywhere. From lots of vespas and bicycles and vinyl records to the walls to display cabinets with knick-knacks like old typewriters and even??? lego pieces to??? gold clubs and rackets mounted to the ceiling to??? cupboards of varying sizes and designs lining one end of the restaurant, it was very quirky but somehow managed to go together. The toilets were also clean and big! Another plus point!

Awesome location. Looks like I’m heading into a night safari and suddenly out pops a restaurant. And a damn good restaurant I might add. Based on the recommendations, I ordered the truffle fries, a pizza: we chose the half and half and went with the wagyu beef and garlic prawn. We also ordered a pot of mussel and clams. Not disappointed. Its expensive but the food is great. I haven’t had food like this in ages… The truffle fries came good and crispy with an accompanying dip. My highlight of the day was the pizza… It wasn’t just the toppings… it was the cheese man. Its all about the cheese. Oozing and soft and with the right balance of dough… I should’ve just had the magherita… The wagyu beef and mushrooms was awesome… and filling! I recommend sharing… if you want to that is. The pot of clams and mussels were a pleasant surprise. Weren’t…fishy? Is that the word to describe it and of course, no sand. I always hated biting into a piece of sand… Anywho The only spoilers was a lone fruit fly hovering around my clams and pizza plus being hassled by the service staff to order fast and to quickly get our orders moving because they’re closing… at 9.20pm So yeah. Overall food awesome. Setting awesome… great music too.

Came here one afternoon… on a weekday. There wasn’t a huge crowd in the restaurant, probably due to the visit being on a weekday afternoon and the remote location of this restaurant(I’m not sure how many people would travel all the way to Changi end for food). The food served was a-ok. It was not particularly memorable but nothing bad that I could recall. Normally, I would have let it passed, but, unfortunately, I do expect a little more for it’s(high) price(then again, no one really travel all the way to Changi end for food, right?). The restaurant, rightfully, was remembered more for it’s décor. Filled with vintage pieces from the 1950s to 1980s, it had a sort of nostalgic charm to it. Some of the vintage pieces had a little tag attached to it that explain what it was meant to be(probably there to help the Gen Y or the Milliennials).

Had a lunch here last year, back when I was all«what is Unilocal?» Took away two stars because it was 1) pricey with small portions 2) did not accomplish what slightly lower priced establishments such as Drury Lane and The Plain did…(Aka make me come back). On the bright side, the garden is awesome for a quick shoot(if you don’t mind humidity and bugs) and the mac and cheese was pretty acceptable. The service was unmemorable… So… Meh?

Fascinating location in a nature-garden setting with many seating options inside and out. Extensive menu usually well executed. Pasta, sandwiches are good and desserts are delicious. Small playground outside for kids.

The place has a really neat, industrial atmosphere– sort of like an old factory from 1920’s America– and most of my friends enjoyed their food, but I wasn’t as impressed. My Smiley Eggs Benedict took a long time to arrive and when I received them, I appreciated the cute presentation – but was ultimately disappointed with the taste. I know that poached eggs are really difficult to make, but mine were overcooked and a bit dry, and there definitely wasn’t enough Hollandaise sauce. And the ham also tasted sort of stale. We shared an arugula, Parmesan and prosciutto pizza– which was pretty good, if not for the thin and overly crispy crust. But I haven’t really found good pizza anywhere in Singapore, so that wasn’t a big shock. Overall, the place is decent– but not sure if it’s worth the long trek out to the east…

Farewell meals are one of the toughest meals to plan cos of the many considerations especially so when it’s for a group due to the varied taste, budget and opinions. Gotta say that The Coastal Settlement is an ideal place for such a group occasion on a weekday lunch not only cos the ambiance is great, there are varied choices of food(western, local) and fits the budget of the slightly tight pocket peeps($ 15ish main course) to those who don’t mind indulging a little bit more($ 20-$ 35ish main course). It was a rainy afternoon when we got there, but the rain didn’t dampen our spirits. The teeny bit of inconvenience caused from having to run from the car park to the entrance was rewarded with a nicely decorated vintage restaurant where different corners presented varied surprises. The food taste great(I ordered the cheese burger) and the desserts were a fantastic complement to round off the farewell with a touch of delicate sweetness(try the Salted Caramel Cheesecake or the Brownie with ice Cream). The overall experience is superb cos every spot in the restaurant is a great photo op, it’s a really nice place to chill and the food is good. If you are one of those who enjoy the hidden theme restaurants at various nooks and crannies in Bangkok, you’ll like The Coastal Settlement. However, do be warned cos a friend did mention that the place could get really crowded on weekends. With live music, hard concrete walls and glass panels that surround the space, noise may be an issue.

Love that it is a hidden spot all the way in the east. Love that the space is so huge with lots of quirky knick-knacks. Love that it is surrounded by greenery. Love free parking! Dislike the horrible drinks they serve there. Stick to just beer next time. After the horrid cocktails, haven’t had the guts to go for the food yet.

I really like Coastal Settlement. I love the open room. I love the fact the owners have taken such care in gathering all the knick-knacks that are found throughout the space(inside and outside). It must have taken an amazing amount of time and money. There are so many restaurants that have cookie cutter ambiances or are simply basic and functional. This is a room oozing with simple charm. I’ve been here twice for lunch. Each time, I’ve dined with colleagues. Both times, service has been excellent. The server was attentive, polite, and professional. As for the food, most of the dishes I’ve had were above average. On my first trip, I tried the Fish n Chips. In Singapore, I’ve had fish n chips in numerous places. For me, thus far, Coastal Settlement slightly edges out Smith’s(a dedicated fish n chips shop). The portion is pretty generous also. On my second trip, I had the prosciutto and arugula pizza. I really enjoyed this. The arugula was very fresh and you can’t go wrong with prosciutto. The crust had a nice crispiness to it. My only complaint was there was a little too much olive oil on the pizza. Their fried calamari is quite good. There isn’t any hint off a rubbery texture. The breading is nice and flavorful while allowing the delicate flavor of the squid to come through. The presentation is clean and neat. I also tried the chicken wings. This is the only dish that has fallen short. They simply did not stand out. The burger was a very popular item with colleagues. They certainly enjoyed it and I plan to give it a try. It looks like a filling lunch. (note: i’ve been back. tried the burger. really enjoyed it. asked for medium rare, they cooked it medium rare) It is a bit out of the way for us. But, we are still willing to make the trip from Changi Business Park for lunch. Great ambiance, an observant staff, a varied menu, and quality food. This is a step up from our usual lunches. (in other reviews, i noticed price mentioned. for what they offer, i do not feel they are overpriced. there has been a lot of care with the ambiance. they carry a full staff who are well trained and provide professional friendly service, the food is prepared and presented well and is made from fresh quality ingredients.)

Love, love, love this place. What I like is that it’s almost kinda hidden — so it’s not that commercial-ish, it’s got a great entrance — very Survivor-like, with fire lamps. There’s a great indoor and outdoor seating area — where a kids station is set up too. The décor is pretty great! Very vintage, historical, and the display of vintage cars other general objects from the past gives the place quite a bit of character. There’s a good vibe and the staff are friendly. What I Love: The food is greattttt! Gotta try their Truffle Fries and Wagu Beef Burger. Very yummy. Portions are huge — so everything can be shared. The steak’s yummy too. Their concept is pretty interesting — there’s local, international and fusion food as well.

Tucked in the outskirts of Changi, opposite the famous«haunted» Old Changi Hospital, is this little gem. Having a meal there is a trip down memory lane with its hard wood floors and retro decoration. Nothing says homely like this restaurant. Even better, the service is excellent. And for those who prefer a little alfresco dining, you too can have your dinner under the starry skies. Food there is slightly on the pricey side, but well worth it. They serve western foods that range from pastas, to burgers, to steaks or even truffle fries. All of which are fantastic. A special dish to look out for is the Portobello fries, which is one of the best out there.

The Coastal Settlement is a new dining space hidden behind Hendon Camp and just opposite the old Changi Hospital. We have run down this road several times before and it’s a really quiet place. Nice to see some new developments in the area. Suppose the rent is really cheap because a space like that at Dempsey or Town would cost a bomb. I like that it has lotsa outdoor space for chilling out. Pretty much like Skyve but more old fashioned. The alfresco seating at the back and around the restaurant as shown in the picture below. TCS really need to do something about the mosquitoes though. Just walking from the nearby carpark down this path and to the entrance, i was planted with 4 big kisses and they kept me occupied the entire evening. The 50cent sized bites are still swollen now. Slap on the repellant and enjoy the nature outdoors, it’s quite relaxing when you are not scratching like a monkey. The space is really interesting. I was overwhelmed by the different sights and contrasting textures– Steel columns, shelves and bars against exposed brick walls. The somewhat industrial look is softened by plush cushions on wooden frames and one feels comfortable whiling the day away. And it’s perfectly fine because there is simply so much space! The first thing that caught my eye was the main display of an eclectic mix of old furniture, memorabilia from the old days, flipping blocks, metal pots and potties. There are also 4 Vespas sitting on the shelves! TCS is a great place for hanging out with friends and you can tell that by their table arrangements. How so? Most of the tables are huge with chairs for groups of at least 4 and more. There are bar seats, dining seats, round tables, rectangle tables, stools seating, sofa seating and so on. No matter the size of the group and regardless of your seating preference, you’ll find something that fits here. I love how they section the restaurant into different areas. This feels more like a pub with bar stools. A live band was playing when i was there during the weekend. Old melodies and soulful singing by a group of uncles. They are not fantastic but somehow it’s very atmospheric. Now onto the food. For starters we had the Portobello fries(S$ 14). It’s a bread crumbled Portobello slices served with a truffle mayonnaise. Sounds good? It tastes even better than truffle fries because of the added moisture from the mushroom. Add a little of that homemade chili and the dish is even more perfect. There’s a selection of Chinese main courses like Beef Horfun, Char Kway Teow, Nasi Lemak and Crayfish Laksa? That was alongside English dishes such as Rib eye with Rosti, Roasted Chicken and Fish and Chips. If i wanted Chinese i would have gone to Changi Village. Anyways. we ordered the Char grilled Wagyu Beef and Mushroom pizza(S$ 23). Nicely grilled juicy chunks of beef slices with sweet caramelized onion, sauteed mushrooms on a white wine reduction cream sauce and baked with Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese. Each mouthful was an explosion of tastes. The sweetness of the onion, smokiness of the beef and saltiness from the cheese give the dish a multitude of sensations. Even though it’s a thin crust, it’s not the same as the crispy Skinny pizza cracker sort. This has more bite to it and you would have to chew a bit. This is really heavenly! A meal is never complete without desserts and the waffles blew our minds(S$ 14). The presentation is really pretty and once again it delighted our tastebuds. Light, crispy and salty waffles(yes salty. Very nice though!), fresh crème with sweet banana and raspberries(they ran out of strawberries) and maple syrup with a side of bitter sweet dark chocolate ice cream with a thinly sliced biscotti, cookie crumbs and dark chocolate. I was just grinning and nodding my head the whole time. This is definitely my new favorite Eastie hangout apart from Lots. No more traveling to PS café for desserts anymore(unless i’m in town). I hope they don’t close shop anytime soon because it is indeed quite out of the way. Please support them because the food is really good and i wanna continue hanging out here! :)) They have All Day Breakfast too! I’m so going back! Comes highly recommended by me(if that means something. haha.)
