Swee Lee

This is one of the worst run instrument stores I’ve ever been to. It was like a dirty pawn shop. They have plenty of good guitars, but they’re all scratched or otherwise damaged – but they still charge full price! And although their super high end guitars are sectioned off behind a glass enclosure, it’s not climate controlled! Why would I pay $ 10,000 or even $ 500 for a guitar that hasn’t been treated with care? Furthermore, every guitar was severely out of tune. This is something the staff could have been correcting in their down time, but instead they just stood around. I went there prepared to spend a few thousand dollars on a particular guitar, but there was no way I was going to give them my money after what I saw. Plus, their return policy is a joke.

When I was in the school band as a kid, we bought all our instruments here. When we got older and switched to other instruments, we also bought them here.
The staff really know their stuff and are musicians too. You can test out the instruments in the studio if you are shy.

Probably the biggest supplier of musical instruments in Singapore, Swee Lee has long been known as the go-​to place for electric guitars, basses, drums and violins.
I like to go there to test out the different brands they carry — Gibson, Fender and Ibanez and the fact that they allow you to is great. They don’t force you to make purchases, instead the staff there are laid back and most of them are rockers themselves.
There’s also a jamming studio located here so you can test out your newest purchase with the rest of your band.
