This place serves authentic Kerala cuisine place. This place is famous for Biryani which is a clear winner. But you need to be careful to pick winners with other dishes. Kerela cuisine differs from Chettinad and Chennai food as there is more use of coconut in dry form in the gravy. The resulting taste is good if the coconut has been toasted just right. The chicken dishes are winners. Fish dishes vary in taste on a daily basis and lack the consistency so you have to be lucky. Meat dishes can be avoided unless you are having a biryani. Probably the top 5 Indian biryani places in Singapore.

This place has been slowly going downhill. Went there with my wife a few weeks ago. She ordered the fish set meal and I decided to try the mutton ishtu set meal. To my surprise the fish set came with vegetables and the usual sides but the mutton set did not. Strange inconsistency and manager just shrugged when asked. The price is quite steep for this location. The fish was disappointing in taste. The mutton stew when it first came had one large piece of fat then 2 bones with no meat and practically that was their idea of a meat dish special meal. I pointed out to the manager this was a cruel joke and unacceptable. He tried to argue that the taste was so good I should just accept that there was less meat. I told him there was hardly any meat in the dish ! Finally and reluctantly he agreed to give me a proper replacement which was only marginally better. I did tell him I usually do not take large portions but a reasonable portion of meat is required. Should not have had to argue and the attitude was unprofessional. This restaurant is a disgrace.

This restaurant would have gotten a 5 star rating if the service was better… The food was on point. We ordered butter chicken and garlic naan. The food tasted hot and made to order. The butter chicken was a generous amount with large chunks of chicken. It also had a nice little kick of spicy with I loved. Probably one of the best butter chicken I’ve had to date. The restaurant was clean and there was plenty of tables. Each table had a small container of water for self service which was convenient when you’re coming in from the hot humidity. The only reason why this restaurant didn’t get a 5 star was the lack of service. The lady was sitting outside, on her phone, talking away without helping us. We had to seat ourselves and waited a good 10 minutes before another guest went outside and motioned for the lady to come in so that he could pay. Once the other guest left, we were the only people left in the restaurant. The service didn’t get any better. Eventually an older man came out from the back to help us and he was more attentive… But by then it was too late.

The prata was outstanding, very fluffy and a little oily but amazingly fresh. The butter chicken masala and gobi manchurian were also highlights. There was a prawn curry dish and a fish wrapped in banana leaves dish which were also great. Competes with Raj as the best Indian food I have had in Singapore.

One of my Indian mates took me to this restaurant one evening and boy the food was good! It’s not your typical chicken curry fare over basmati rice. Admittedly, if you didn’t know of the place you wouldn’t bother looking for it. It’s hidden in a corner of Little Indian. This restaurant is totally no-frills and attracts a good crowd of Indian expats every weekend. The food served here has it’s origins in Kerala and I must say, haven’t been to India myself, I believe this to be a good sample of their local flavor there. You must try the Mutton Dum Briyani and their Appam amongst other things. The meats are cooked to a tender perfection. The food, for what it is, is rather inexpensive but be prepared to eat, go there with an empty belly if you must. The hassle of getting to the place is well worth it.
