I used to wax lyrical about Subway to my friends, feeling proud about how I «ate fresh» almost twice every week with a healthy chicken teryaki or turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. Was I correct? NO. I soon realized to my horror that I was not. Sure, it was less than 500 calories per sandwich. Sure, it comprised of only cut vegetables and lean meat on the«healthier choice» of bread. But was it in any way wholesome or nourishing? NO. One fine day when I was tricked into enjoying the supposedly healthy goodness of my subway sandwich, I peered into the back kitchen where they prepare the food. To my horror, I saw the helps hauling out packs of cold, frozen meats and pre-cut vegetables and dumping them into the tiny tumblers from which they prepare the sandwiches from. All these vegetables and meats arrived from factories, frozen, and ready to serve. In no way was it fresh. To be fair, it was a little naïve of me to think that the meat was slowly roasted in an oven somewhere in the back room before being served, but the vegetables being pre cut? No. Ever since then, I’ve never gone back to Subway. Probably because I’m a healthnut. But to anyone who just wants a quick fix and decently edible food, by all means and be conned into thinking you’re eating«healthy» food.

If you are not a frequent visitor of 2AM desertbar, this Subway in Holland Village is pretty hard to find. When you walk in take a left turn in between Sushi Tei and Pet Lovers Centre and walk all the way to the end of the street. Because there is not a lot of walk by traffic, this subway always has a place for you. Because of this the staff is very slow and got lazy over time I think. They made such a big issue when I asked for extra olives. I told them I didn’t want 3 other veggies, but they were too stingy to double the amount of olives. There was no option to pay additional, they simply refused, so weird and rigid. The toilet is kinda crappy and there is often something leaking. Outdoor seating is the best. Subway menu. just like any other subway. It seems like there is a lot of choice, but really. all the breads taste exactly the same and so do the cold cuts to be quite frank. Mass production and cost savings is what you taste. Veggies are quiet crisp and tasty except for the olives.

The Subway in Holland Village is tucked away and if you didn’t know it was there you could miss it. Its one of the less busy Subways I have been to on the island but its probably the most pleasant. Its very clean and rarely crowded and they even have an outdoor sitting area. Expect the typical Subway menu here. The cookies at Subway are really good – chewy and chocolatey and cheaper than say Mrs Fields or Famous Amos.
