very, very good food at this small, modern restaurant in bugis — very earnest, and it succeeds both in service and space and food. it’s still relatively uncrowded, which is surprising for its quality, but unsurprising for its relative tucked-awayness. add the fact that prices are more than reasonable — especially with a set offered at dinner time — really, I’m not sure I could like it more. it’s totally a bonus that this place is both cozy and intimate enough for romantic dinners, but casual enough for gatherings with friends(and inexpensive enough not to do too much damage to your already light wallet). we went for the three-course dinner set(it rings in at an almost unbelievable less-than-fifty) with a glass of wine — the house pour whites and reds were okay, though the white was more elegant and drinkable. bread arrived piping hot with a good knob of butter melting in its tiny glass dish — not superbly flavorful, but hot bread is always good with a dab of butter and sprinkle of salt. the two starters that arrived were beautiful — surprising in a most pleasant sort of I-certainly-didn’t-expect-this way — and our entrees of fish fillet served in broth, and a seared steak were plenty tasty. to round off the meal — a dessert selection that doesn’t quite measure up to the same level of creativity or elegance as the first two courses, but it was rich enough to be satisfying(which is important — the last course usually forms the bulk of the impression). we had a scoop of sesame ice cream as well as a more involved chocolate dessert of mousse tiers, flavored with increasing levels of chocolateyness. this second dessert I thought very good — but it might be a little too rich for all you people(whomI don’t understand) who prefer your sweets a little more ephemeral. service is pleasant — but they leave you alone to do your talking and eating(and photographing) — and I really do feel an earnestness about this place that is plenty endearing. definitely worth visiting and returning, especially if you’re into supporting local(which I’m not — but I’m into supporting good food, which this is).

Nice quiet place with great staff and acceptable food. The ambience is peaceful, Muzak is old school… nothing bad or wrong and great service. Oh the food, um, steak is — well, I would say get the cod or the bream. Three stars only to temper the five star ringers.

What a wonderful restaurant from the food, the ambience and service! Located on the trendy restaurant row of Purvis Street, this restaurant has all the makings of a perfect date spot! First off, the Dinner Set Menu is a must and it won’t break the bank. It includes your choice of starters, mains and dessert plus a delectable red wine that pairs with the meat dishes you are more likely to choose for your main course. I started off with the Salmon Carpaccio, easily the best dish of the night. Imagine eating the freshest salmon sashimi with a citrus and onion blast. My main was the Oven Baked Rosemary Lamb Barnsley Chop, while my wife ordered the Wagyu Steak & Frites. The lamb was perfectly cooked and worked well with the red peppers & lamb juice. However, I started kicking myself when I tried my wife’s Wagyu steak and frites! The butter on top of the Wagyu steak was just over the top. The dinner ended with a Chocolate Moelleux. A sort of molten cake paired with a stunning coconut gelato. Trust me I don’t think you will get the same reaction that Oliver Platt’s Character in The Chef had about Jon Favreau’s Molten chocolate Cake. Hehe! Simply put, a sexy looking restaurant with food that would make your date or significant other wanting more! ;D

To be filed under: This place has under 5 reviews?! Well then, if that’s the case, perhaps Sprigs is one of the most underrated restaurants on Purvis Street. My husband and I were looking for a chill place for Friday dinner, allowing fate to decide for us since we didn’t make reservations. We walked down Purvis Street, and halfway down I saw Sprigs. Since my former company works with them, I asked Miguel if we could see what their menu looked like. What hooked us was their set dinner. 3 courses and a glass of wine for $ 48.90? YAAAAAASPEAS. The entrance is all glass, and you can see the entire restaurant from the outside. We were surprised there were only a few diners inside. The servers were gracious enough to give us a booth, even though it was just the two of us. For our set dinner, we both chose the salmon carpaccio for appetiser and chocolate cake for dessert. For mains, I had the wagyu steak frites and Miguel had the lamb. I loved the peppery salmon carpaccio. It also had some daikon radish slices, raw onion, and a mixed green salad surrounding the fish. I thought the flavours and textures were the perfect starters. But my wagyu steak frites stole the show. We had a little chuckle at the beginning, because I noticed the menu said«+9» and I thought that meant $ 9++. For all the wagyu noobs out there, it really means the grade of the wagyu! Anyway, it was served to me with perfect grill marks, melted herbed butter, the most wonderful french fries, and a salad on the side. Paired with the house red wine, I was in my happy place! Dessert doesn’t sound like much(chocolate cake with a scoop of coconut ice cream and some mango) but I felt like it was the perfect end to our lovely meal. I can’t believe I’ve never thought of pairing chocolate cake with coconut ice cream! The service was top notch, with our water glasses being refilled often, food served promptly, and servers open to feedback. This is a great spot if you’re looking to have an upscale meal that’s unpretentious and won’t hurt your wallet.
