Looking for some high class daily fare of chinese food, Space@My Humble House is the place for you. Taking advantage of the recent Esplanade Mall and VISA1-for-1 Lunch promotion, my colleague and I decided to make a trip down to Space for a good lunch. The restaurant is small and dont take reservations, thus if you want to get a seat easily, I would not recommend a large group. Best to go in pairs. For groups, do avoid the peak during lunch/dinner time and the chance of getting a table would be really slim. My favourite here gotta to be the claypot crab meat and scallop consommé. The soup is tasty and rich in flavour. The ingredients are generous too. My colleague ordered the Laksa and the gravy has a rich coconut fragrance. With the lunch promotion, it’s really value for money so do try it out before the promotion ends this September!

Ehhhhh. I don’t know how I feel about newfangled Chinese dining. The ambiance was edgy, avant-garde but the food rather old-school. I liked the minced meat rice and congee. My taste buds + brain had a really confusing experience.

I like Space for a quick pre-show eat, if I haven’t planned to eat elsewhere beforehand and don’t feel like sweating it out at Glutton’s Square. My favorites are a tossup between the chicken rice(the chilli is very polite – not garlicky enough!, but the rice is incredibly tender), and the fancy laksa. It’s not for everybody(why mess with the classics), but the waitstaff are used to the needs of the theatre crowd, and it is good quality for your money lah.

Space @ My Humble House serves up fancy local fare — I ordered the consommé with crab meat and shrimp, which is really saying it’s a fancy type of porridge, but it was quite good. The claypot beef rice and lamb rack bak kut teh were also quite yummy. Think of it as a very sanitized, almost westernized version of hawker food, and correspondingly it’s also more expensive. Still, not a bad spot for a meal in Esplanade. It’s not a very big restaurant though.

If you’re looking for spiffed up local hawker delights and Chinese cuisine without too much fuss in a pretty casual and trendy setting, Space@My Humble House offers all of that and more! The waitresses are extremely helpful, give good suggestions, and appear to have gone through waitress school. That’s no surprise really — having My Humble House at its helm(though the name suggests otherwise, they are masters at culinary skill and service!). So after a quick gander at their menu — you’ll get what I mean when I said ‘spiffed up’. The Royal Carrot Cake(!!!), fried radish cake with REAL crabmeat, WHOLE prawns, JUICY Scallops and EGGS is something that you can’t get anywhere else. The $ 14 price tag might put you off, put it’s a kind of luxury you can’t give say no to! Other dishes like the Zhajiang Mian($ 10) and Braised Beef Noodles($ 14) are expertly prepared and served in unique crockery and taste oh so good. No regrets here, and full of praises. Love this place!
