I was at the Long House for dinner after exercise. Unsure of what is nice at Long House, I ordered from Soon Kee duck rice in the end. I ordered the Duck Mee and boyfriend ordered the duck rice. My Duck Mee came with a dark coloured soup and Duck Rice came with a veg soup. Quite interesting to have two different type of soup. I would have to say that the Duck noodles were normal. I have tried better ones. But the duck meat is tender. Apart from that, Uncle at the stall is very friendly which made the ordering process easy and appreciated.

Soon Kee duck rice is one of my favorite duck rice stalls simply because of the combination of their duck rice and sauce. I would normally order the standard plate of duck rice at $ 3.50 with duck breast, half an egg and cucumber slices. Normally, I would find that the portion of rice is insufficient for me(maybe I eat a lot or maybe the sauce and rice is too delicious) and I would ask for extra rice at some extra cost. I’d like to add that their chili sauce is pretty good as well, but what gets it going is the sauce and the tender lean duck meat. Anyone having their duck rice without the sauce is missing out on a great dish! Parking at long house might require some luck to find someone exiting at the right moment during peak periods and one might be forced to park much further away. It would be good to note that it is a one-directional carpark, hence camping for slots will be frowned upon since it causes jams.

I’ve been eating Soon Kee Duck Rice for as long as I can remember, and it remains one of the best duck rice I’ve tasted island-wide. A standard order of duck rice($ 3.50) comes with a generous portion of boneless duck meat, a braised egg, a few slices of boiled cucumber and gravy on the traditional yam rice(some stalls don’t serve duck meat with yam rice, the audacity!). You can also request for peanuts if you like. The meat is moist and succulent, unlike the dry and flat pieces that you get elsewhere that are sometimes difficult to chew. I like how the meat is cut into tiny chunks for easy consumption. The gravy is light on the taste buds and moistens the rice without making it too soggy. The rice is fragrant and fluffy. Their porridge is yummy too!
