Neighborhood pubs are a dime a dozen in Singapore. There is bound to be one near every residential district. And with each one, they are bound to have their regulars. But that is what sets Pub Starlet apart from the others for me. Nestled in the Sembawang Hills area just off Upper Thomson Road, the regulars are always welcoming to new patrons. I remember clearly the very first time I went there years ago. There is always a friendly family gathering kind of vibe when you walk in. There are no strangers here. Even the karaōke singing is like a family session with everyone joining in, belting out anything from English oldies to Hokkien classics to Chinese mandarin hits. And unlike most pubs that put dart machines in as an afterthought, Pub Starlet may be small but have a dedicated darting area with 2 machines and a pool table. Easily one of the better neighborhood watering holes in Singapore.
