Had an enjoyable evening at P’ Bistro, the palais Renaissance unit their second branch(their first is at Owen Road). Owner Min Yee was chatty, friendly and spoke passionately about her love for food & baking. She is the real deal — she is also the chef and Cordon Bleu trained. Let’s talk about the food. I tried the following items: 1) Pomelo salad($ 12) — wow wow wow. An explosion of flavors and textures! Refreshing yet spicy(thanks to them chili padis). I enjoyed the juicy bursts from the pomelo when I bit into them. Be warned, I squirted on myself twice(I know this sounds wrong). 2) Pufferfish($ 12) — another awesome starter. It was almost a bit like beef jerky and I believe the inspiration for this was from japanese eel jerky. The mayo was divine and went perfectly. 3) Barramundi($ 26) — this was a main and from my understanding, the barramundi is from a local fish farmer which instantly put my mind at ease. Honestly, with so much radiated waters and mercury in fish, I am a little scared with seafood. This fish was tender, fresh and a delight. 4) duck confit($ 28) — oh mama!!! Me likey!!! Duck was tender, flavorful and aromatic. One of the better duck confits around! 5) Nonya Dory($ 18) — I think this was the most outstanding of the night. Super aromatic, droolsome and saucy. Haha! I mean, the sauce perked up an otherwise typical fish dish. It left me wanting more. 6) Red Curry Seafood Pasta(new, $ 24) — this is a thai red curry, and I think the sauce singularly lifted this dish to outstanding. Paired with scallops, shrimp and squid, what made this so insanely awesome was fresh crabmeat in the sauce. Like. I die. 7) desserts — we tried the palmier. At $ 1 each, it is A STEAL, people. And forget the price. It is freakin’ yummy!!! Buttery, crusty. She uses Meiji milk and I think that is the secret to this hit!!! Oooops! ;) I particularly enjoyed the Passionfruit tart too. One of the best I’ve had. All in all, I will be back. Prices aren’t ridic and portions are substantial. Ambience was great and staff were friendly. I don’t know what else to ask for in an unpretentious café that serves top-notch food.
