Orchard Tower

Wer Partys mag und in geselliger Runde ein oder zwei Bier trinken möchte sollte unbedingt in den Orchard Tower gehen. Über mehrere Etagen erstreckt sich ein wahres Disco und Bar Reich. Die gesellige Gesellschaft ist garantiert. Und bei der Music ist für fast jeden was dabei. Aber ja später der Abend, desto unwichtiger ist ja die Music. Am Tage erstreckt sich im unteren Level ein kleineres Shoppingcenter. Das Electrogeschäft sorgte damals für viel Aufregung. Denn dort gab es Sachen, die in Deutschland erst später in die Regale kam. Und die Preisunterschiede waren auch enorm. Aber das ist seit langem alles vorbei. Ich erinnere mich gerne daran zurück, wenn ich diesen Laden sehe.

The infamous Orchard Towers… yes, they deserve a review as well and I won’t shy away from doing it!
Let me start off by saying that the reputation as a ‘hooker joint’ is not the only purpose or I should better say, it’s only the minor purpose of this complex.
There are offices, bars, restaurants, shops… you name it. Basically like every other building/​mini mall in SG. Once the shades of the night are coming the scenery changes a bit, however the reputation is far worse than the reality. There are some fun bars and pretty good restaurants especially if you like Thai Food.
Talking about the bars and nightclubs (as it has been mentioned below) make sure to be conscious if you hit it off with a boy or a girl. Just sayin’ !

I’m not ashamed to say I come here very often because it’s the one place you can get really good Thai food. There is a reason you’ll find some of the best authentic Thai cuisine here, but we’ll get to that in awhile.
Coming here at night, you’ll see all sorts of colourful, skimpily-​clad ladies and lady-​boys working hard for money. I scoff at people who look down on them, because at least they are earning an honest living. Most of them are friendly and smile back if you smile at them, but do be careful not to stare and make them feel uncomfortable. After all, they are human.
Because a large number of the trans-​gender population in Singapore are from Thailand, a lot of the pubs here play Thai music and several restaurants in the building serve Thai food. There’s a good one on level 2 and another on level 4.
Many a weekend I’ve found myself here after 6am when I or my friends decide we need more drinks after clubbing (most of the clubs we go to close at 5 or 6). Naughty Girl stays open until 745am so it is our last stop on certain days. Of course the decision to come here is usually made under the very strong influence of alcohol, but please note that I do not recommend drinking in excess. Needless to say, if you drink, take a cab home.

Orchard Towers has a really bad reputation after office hours. This place has been nicknamed the ‘four floors of whores’ but my experience of being there with my foreign colleagues have been quite pleasant.
Sure, the place could be seen as sleaze incarnate but it could really be a lot worst. It’s pretty tame compared to some other countries. The building is full of ‘working’ girls and their primary targets are the Caucasian male.
Some of the bars have live music, show band style and the quality of musicianship is very decent (the 2 bars I’ve been to had good bands). An eye opener if you’ve never been to a sleazy bar. Be polite though, don’t take out your cameras and start taking pictures of the girls. I’m sure they would not appreciate that.
Oh yea, before I forget… a note to the tourists, a good number of these girls are actually boys. You’ve been warned.

Das Orchard ist mein Stammhotel, wenn ich in Singapur bin. Es ist direkt an der Orchard Road gelegen, sehr gut mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zu erreichen (Bus Stop unmittelbar vor dem Hotel, die nächste U-​Bahn ist in ca. 5 Minuten zu Fuß zu erreichen). Der Service ist sehr gut, das Personal sehr freundlich, die Zimmer sauber und geräumig. Die Poolanlage ist eher durchschnittlich, aber ausreichend. Leider konnte ich sie nie ausprobieren, denn jeden Nachmittag hat es pünktlich zu meinem Feierabend angefangen zu schiffen wie dull. Aber für das Tropenklima kann ja das Hotel nichts. :-)
Wer nicht im Hotel essen will, der findet auf der gegenüber liegenden Straßenseite eine Vielzahl verschiedener Restaurants, angefangen bei McDoof bis hin zu westlichen Steakhäusern oder typisch Singapurer Food Centern.
In unmittelbarer Nähe finden sich auch mehrere 711-​Shops oder andere Supermärkte, wo man sich mit Getränken oder Knabberzeugs eindecken kann, wenn einem die Zimmerbar zu teuer ist.
Störend sind nur die Bordsteinschwalben, die abends um das Hotel herum auf Freier warten. Da es sich um ein reines Nichtraucherhotel handelt, muss man für eine Zigarette auf die Straße raus, wo man dann zwangsläufig von diesen Damen angequatscht wird. Naja, wer’s denn nötig hat, der wird’s praktisch finden, dass er nicht lang suchen muss, aber mich hat es ein wenig genervt.

Ganz am Anfang der Orchard Road liegt das Orchard Hotel. Zu Fuß ist alles sehr schnell erreicht. Ich benutze es häufig für einen Stopover. Es gibt einen Transfer-​Bus vom FLughafen, die klappert aber alle Hotels ab, daher bis zu 60 Min für dern Transfer einrechnen oder ein Taxi nehmen. Essen war ich in diesem Hotel leider nicht. Aber das Frühstück war sehr gut. Toller Service, preiswerte Übernachtung, was will man mehr?

Das Hotel ist der perfekt Ausgangspunkt für sämtliche Aktivitäten in Singapur.
Das Hotel wurde vor einigen Jahren renoviert und die Zimmer sind nun alle modern eingerichtet.
Das Personal ist immer sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Es gibt 653 Zimmer. Mehrere Retaurants, ein grossen Spa-​Bereich und einen Aussenpool.
Das Hotel ist bei Geschäftsreisenden, sowie bei Urlaubern gleichermaßen beliebt.
