A cosy retreat in the east area that is not too crowded and you will feel that you’re right in the katong area even within this modern restaurant. The chicken rice here is good, along with their Hokkien Mee. They also serves western food that is up to mark. Recently the public is not so welcomed in this place, which in the past welcomes visitors quite well. You need a member to check you in nowadays and the security guard is not very friendly.

Man Zhu is quite possibly my favourite part of each Chinese Swimming Club visit. It’s always crowded with kids who are studying, parents whiling time away with their kids in the pools, and kids devouring everything in sight after a strenuous pool session. Food is cheap and good, and there’s a substantial menu to pick from. I rather like the fish assam — piquant and very addictive. Curries come with poppadum, which is a nice touch. The sandwiches are filling and healthy, and the local eats are not bad too. There are daily specials, and new items are brought in regularly so it’s never boring to eat here. There’s a discount if you’re a member, which is even more incentive to join.
