This is a review of a solo lunch at Madam Saigon(Liang Seah Street) on a Sunday afternoon. I was wandering around Liang Seah Street. I decided to go to Porn’s Thai for lunch. However, when I stepped in, they communicated they were closed. I guess I had just missed their lunch window. I noticed Madam Saigon next door. Luckily, unlike Porn’s, they actually want customers and were open. The room is pretty basic. But it is bright and clean. I found it to be a comfortable space. The server was very friendly. He quickly seated me. I was hungry so I quickly made my selection and he was right there to take my order. He checked back often to insure everything was to my liking. Before I knew it, there was hot fresh food on my table. Vietnamese Spring Rolls — While maybe not anything to write home about, these were good. They were very fresh and while the sauce was typical, it went very well with the spring rolls. Vietnamese Beef Stew — I do not remember seeing any stew like this in Vietnam. But, with the exception of the rice, it very much reminded me of a basic southern beef stew. If Singapore had cold winter days, this would be perfect for them. The stew was hot and hearty. It was also not over-cooked. This was true of the vegetables and the beef. I truly enjoyed this dish. I spooned it over some rice and went to town. In a blink of an eye, I had finished it. Good food — Great service — Comfortable space — Well, that is a win, win, win. I would have no issue returning to Madam Saigon for a lunch or casual dinner.
