Jin Tian used to operate in Tiong Bahru, right across from the market before it got pushed out by the numerous hipster cafes, patisseries and the skyrocketing rent. When I first moved to Tiong Bahru, that was when Jin Tian shut down and I always wanted to try this place because Jin Tian is the name of a place in my hometown Hong Kong. I discovered that it reopened after a few months on Zion Road, right across from Great World City and a few mins from the Zion Riverside Food Centre. Since I am always on the lookout for good and authentic HK style bbq meat, I was keen to try the new Jin Tian. The soy chicken was really very good and I could easily have downed 2 bowls of rice on that and the spring onion dip alone. I have yet to try their other dishes because we were distracted by the $ 20 crab dish being promoted now — it’s the usual choices: black pepper, salt egg yolk, butter, steam. We tried the salt egg yolk twice and it’s pretty good, the crab was a good size too with decent amount of meat. I noticed a number of people buying rice and bbq meat combo takeout so if you live around the area that’s another option for you. I saw that they are offering the hakka big-bowl(pen cai) for Chinese New Year. Basically, they put a whole lot of goodies into a big basin — chicken, goose, abalone, mushroom, vegetables etc. This has become a popular dish for Chinese New Year celebration in recent years but it’s a lot of food, so I need to find a big group to try this out.
