Nik’s review made me want to try this place for the beautifully charred char siew. We got there and my colleague told me this is the same brand name as the stall we usually frequented just a few blocks away(right outside Braddell MRT). Then I recalled Nik did tell me that before, likewise for another Yong Tau Foo stall which he reviewed before. Duh. So we decided to head to the market to discover it was closed for cleaning(I never saw Nik’s tip until too late — see, this is where Unilocal can be really useful if one actually looks through all the tips and photos) Back to this place again where I ordered the wanton noodles. I did not order what Nik ordered so my char siew was thinly sliced and not as succulent looking as Nik’s picture. But the wanton noodles was really good. After mixing in the sauce and chili, the noodles became dark and not as pale as in picture. The char siew was nice but could be better if I had ordered the fatty thicker version. The ultimate was the wanton soup. It had a herbal taste(like in duck soup?) which I enjoyed. The wantons were smallish but not too starchy thick. Now I know to order the noodles next time and with the thicker char siew. It is way better than the duck rice which I usually get at the other outlet. My colleague said the roast pork is equally good and popular.

i’m so blessed to be surrounded by good food, everywhere i look! just north of the wall, some 2.1km away is a hive that attracts me like bees to honey. whether i take a bus and walk, take a train and walk or just walk and walk, it is still worth the visit, after visits. oh, of course you can drive here too! best bet is to park at the multi-storey carpark located just behind the coffee shop where HFK is located. they are normally ready for business by 8am in the morning and that, for me, is the best time to swarm this place, before they get swarmed! uncle,云吞面,多肥叉烧,不要云吞!$ 4. after trying all combinations, like roast duck with char siew, roast pork with char siew and char siew with extra char siew, i have decided that fatty char siew with extra char siew is the way to go! KL style black charred meats!!! it’s really healthy, especially when you ask for fatty char siew!;) i would recommend grabbing an uncut $ 10 piece of char siew, just to bite on, and then wash it down with that mug/can of beer in the other hand. but that is just so cannibalistic! how about, you order just like i did and enjoy that bowl as addictive as instant noodles, with a texture that bounces the noodles from tongue to throat, with a sauce that not only tastily blackens but also lusciously lubricates in case you feel the need to slurp! do not, i repeat, do not blasphemously throw out those innocent bits of crispy pork lard that will find their way into your bowl. if you do wanna throw them out, just remember to send them my way!:) that applies to the roast duck skin and roast pork crackling as well, ok?! actually, you should order their lean char siew, just so i can bear the burden of eating them fatty ones! yes, do ditch those meaningless carbo laden wantons! yes, do take your chances with their chillies, red and green ones, you know you need to spice up your life! if only, uncle was more generous with the amount of char siew that he gives! if only, uncle slices the char siew thicker instead of razor thin deli style! if only, overseas restaurant was still around…

This roast meat joint is pretty good. Definitely above average! I ordered roast duck, char siew and sio bak for 2 people and the bill was 10 bucks. That’s pretty decent you would think, but the portion is really exactly for 2 people. What I mean by that is — I’m actually a pretty big eater(probably an understatement) and if I was really hungry, I think 2 of me could easily eat 2 portions of what I ordered.(And probably regret later… but none the less still finish it up) Now I’m not saying that its DAMNNN little… coz I’m full after awhile. But for the price, it’s good enough. If I went to let’s say Kay Lee, I’d probably eat abt 26bucks worth whether I want to or not. so yeah. The duck is not too oily, they give you a bowl of extra gravy for your rice, the charsiew is soft with just the right amount of fat and the siu yuk is crispy at the skin like it should be. Check, check & check! I’d post pictures but the ones already up are pretty true to what you’ll be having. Worth driving down to toa payoh from bedok for dinner? Yeah why not! Esp since it doesn’t close shop so early like many famous roast meat joints do.
