Eight Flags Computer Systems & Supplies

Called to enquire about buying a Macbook Pro 15″ Retina. Was told they don’t have any laptops instock and all preorder only. Had to come by and preorder with a $ 20 deposit.
Was told it would take 2 – 3 weeks but when I called after 3 weeks, the staff didn’t know the status of my macbook. Only able to collect after more than a month — thank goodness my purchase wasn’t during the academic period.

This is the representative computer store for NTU. I was initially impressed at their service when I emailed to ask about the availability and pricing of a software. I received a reply within hours from someone name Leon asking me to make a pre-​order for the software I requested.
Excited, I went over the next day. I was surprised that the physical store is very small, with mainly peripherals items and limited choices of laptops. I guess they have to target the more mainstream requirement of students these days who need 5 USB cables and 3 headphones. After walking around and not finding a software section, I went up to the counter and ask the guy up there about the software. He said they don’t carry that in stock and I have to go to this website to purchase it. Seriously??? Yes, and he was annoyed that I asked so many questions about this website.
For a university representative, I expect the service to be more helpful. If you are looking for a software with educational pricing, I recommend that you search on the Internet for more specific information. There is no point coming to the store (unless you know who this kind Leon guy is).

Dropped by to pick up a pair of Sony earphones and the service was pleasant. Product knowledge could have been a little better, but the good price more than made up for that.

I’d advise students to stay away from eight flags unless he/​she is a foreign student who has no time to travel out to Sim Lim to get his/​her computer supplies. That’s because the things in eight flags are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive!
Ok, while one might get chopped when buying from Sim Lim square, it is more of a matter of being aware and doing price comparisons before purchasing. But at eight flags, the prices are marked up already.
Also, the laptop prices are really not much cheaper. In fact, I find that the laptops sold are much more expensive than what one can bargain for during the IT show every 3 months OR even through bargaining in Sim Lim Square.
I do go in from time to time to check on prices and every time, I do get turned off by the high prices of their mice, earpieces and other computer accessories.
Unless you really need it, try to avoid it!

The reliable computer store in NTU is probably eight flags if you asked around. They do have the essentials and recently I ust bought a seagate hard drive and an usb. They are slightly cheaper and they have stock for most item. I know a friend had been searching for a particular hard disk and surprisingly he found it here after I told him about it.
They carry earphones, computer accessories even for Mac. I must say for a school store, they are rather well stocked, but if you’re searching for a niche brand that is not common, it might be a bit tough here.
