Tried calling for an entire day(20+ times at the numbers provided by your staff) and couldn’t get through booking for the steamboat buffet. This is beyond frustrating. I hope something can be done about it.

Crystal Jade on Holland Avenue was filmed in a James Bond movie. Was it? Laksa noodles from a hawker stall and a last minute Hainan chicken cab run, Singapore is a foodies’ paradise.

I went in as a single diner on a reasonably busy Saturday night, and got lucky and was seated immediately. The first question I was asked, was, «Al La Carte» — presumably there is a fixed-price dinner, that I did not have. Service was fast, and they took my order quickly(it was a fill in the sheet type order form) — I had the Cold Chicken Marin, Sauteed French Beans, Steamed Pork Dumplings, and Glutenous Dumplings for dessert. It was all pretty ok, thought the Dumplings weren’t anything to write home about — Paradise Dynasty is leaps and bounds better at a lower cost. For an average sized dinner, in a coffee shop environment, The price at $ 44.50 was a little steep — I probably wouldn’t come back for an Al La carte dinner — reading the reviews, it looks like there is better value to be had here in the fixed price deals.

They have a lunch deal which is great value. You can get a full set of xia long baos, noodles, and a drink for $ 10 nett. Considering xia long baos are $ 6, this is a great deal. Also, we went at noon time and there were plenty of tables and no wait.

Service can be spotty at times, and this outlet in particular has issues with the consistency of their food. That said, it’s quick and convenient — I love their dumplings in chili oil and the onion oil la mian.

Crystal Jade is my to-go when I happen to be craving chinese food while at holland village. There is almost always a queue, and it gets especially crowded during lunch and dinner times even though I’ve never had to wait for more than half an hour. The food is decent– the xiaolongbao is consistently satisfactory, though it is nothing like Ding Tai Fung’s 19-fold xiaolongbaos. They’ve recently also made each xiaolongbao bigger and downsized the ‘long’s to only containing 4 xiaolongbaos per portion, which is a good thing if you’re sharing between two people. I also like their minced meat mixed sauce noodle(zha jiang mian), the sauce is sufficiently complex without leaving you too jelat. Service is fantastic even during peak hours. It is amazing how attentive the staff are. They mostly speak mandarin with a mixture of cantonese, but will have no problem understanding and taking orders in English. My favourite part has to be the vibe of the entire restaurant. It is super unpretentious– the waitstaff are all dressed nicely in uniforms, but you never feel out of place even if you wear flip flops(I cant say the same if I were to go Yan Ting for example). It is air-conditioned and always bustling as a restaurant should, but without the hastiness of HK tea houses.

Love steamboat and Xiao Long Bao(XLB)? This place has steamboat buffet with free flow xiao long bao. Great for late night supper as their last sitting is from 10 — 12 mn. XLB is good but not the best. But well, no complaints since its free flow. In fact, after a while, you just get OD on XLB. As for the steamboat, you get to choose between pork bone or ma la. The broth is tasty and the typical ingredients we find in a steamboat. Prawns are not free flow tho. The only problem is its very difficult to make a reservation. Often, tried calling many times and no one pick up the calls. This crystal jade has two storey. Upstairs host the hungry diners for steamboat. If you are not in the mood for steamboat, you can order ala carte dishes downstairs.

Crystal Jade is always a crowd pleaser when it comes to Chinese food. The Xiao Long Bao restaurant in Holland Village is always crowded so expect to wait a while if you are coming during the peak hours. Service is always very fast and efficient. Dumplings are great here, even the vegetarian ones. You can order lots of small dishes here, like scallion pancakes as well as various noodle dishes. I come back here a lot and always leave satisfied.

Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao like all the other Crystal Jade restaurants, does the job of satisfying an empty stomach with decent food. The restaurant is spread over 2 stories, with the 2nd floor being used for a steamboat buffet at night. The restaurant serves the usual la mian, and xiao long baos. It’s a place I used to come to, back in the JC days, when i felt like eating a yummy bowl of noodles but didn’t feel like sweating it out in the hawker centre. My favourite thing to order here is the spring onion oil noodles — though I hesitate to call the noodles the restaurant’s specialty — the dish is pretty much served the same way throughout all the Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao restaurants.

I had a family brunch at Crystal Jade Xiao Long Bao today and was delighted by the good service and food. My grandmother is wheelchair bound which made choosing meal locations trickier, as the restaurant had to have a street entrance with a ramp of sorts. This branch of Crystal Jade fit the criteria so I suggested we came here for brunch today. We were given a table in the bottom level of the restaurant, but the entrance of the restaurant was rather cramped. While I was worrying about how the wheelchair was going to maneuver around the tight bend, a waitress surprised me by pushing open one of the glass panels in the middle of the restaurant to allow easier access for my grandmother. So cool! On to the food. The good dishes: Chao Shou(dumplings in spicy sauce), Spring Onion Noodles and Chong You Bing(scallion pancakes). The mediocre dishes: Xiao Long Bao and Fried Rice with Egg White and Fish. You’ll be able to find better XLBs at Ding Tai Feng. On the whole, I enjoyed my meal here and I’ll be back to try the other soupy la mian options!
